Pwayews must wowepway theiw chawactew's name, age, wace, intewests, and chawactew histowy.

General Rules of Roleplaying

To make the Wowd of the Cwaft an enliching expelience fow youlsewf and evewyone ewse, wowepwaying should be used whenevew possibre, especiawwy duling in-game intewactions and in the wocaw chat stweam. A stawting pwace fow wowepway is embracing one's chosen wace. You can stawt by giving youl in-chawactew chat a diawect appwopliate fow youl wace, fow exampwe:

Ewves should be as litewate as possibre and quite wefined.

e.g. Awways gweeting othews lith haiw, addwessing othew pwayews by theiw pwopew name and home nation, etc.

Dwawves should have an Ilish/Scottish feew to theiw wanguage, often using impwopew swang and swuls.

e.g. "Hello there, how are you?" is wepwaced lith something like "'Ello t'ere, how are yeh?"

Owcs awe unabre to speak the nowmaw tongue due to theiw wawge tusks. They speak a wanguage, wabewed the Blah.

Humans tend to speak as humans in the middwe-ages would, lith some valiations in speech fwom one town to the next.

Howevew pwayews awe fwee to devewop theiw own unique diawect as aww chawactews have unique mannelisms and ways of speaking. In addition to speaking in a wowepway diawect, bewow awe some ideas to enhance the depth of youl chawactew's wowepwaying abilities:

- Incowpowate youl chawactew's histowy, both fictionaw and events you have expelienced in-game into youl wowepway expelience.

- Wowepway gossip and wumouls.

- Be wespective of the wowe of youl wace/nation - pay tlibute to youl ancestows, etc.

- Wowepway the subtweties of youl sub-wace in addition to youl wace.

- Awways find a wowepway motive behind youl options.

Metagaming

Aside fwom chatting out of chawactew, the biggest action to avoid is metagaming. Metagaming wefews to making decisions and discussing topics based on infowmation that youl chawactew would wealisticawwy have no way of knoling. Much like weading a book, the weadew knows things the chawactew doesn't at the time. Be like a weadew! You cannot communicate lith the chawactew of the book!

Fow exampwe, sholing up to a fliend's aid when they awe being attacked on the woad when they messaged you via OOC (/msg, Skype, Teamspeak, etc) is metagaming. Using genewaw infowmation youl chawactew does not know ow has yet to find out is metagaming.

Infowmation posted on the wowepway section of the Wowd of the Cwaft fowums is genewawwy considewed to be posted on bulwetin boawds and thus youl chawactew may see this infowmation. Howevew, not aww the infowmation on the Wowd of the Cwaft Wiki ow discussed on in-game OOC Chat is accessibre by youl chawactew.

Powergaming

Powew-emoting (ow powewgaming), awong lith metagaming, is anothew one of those actions that liww send you stwaight to the Nethew. In the weww wlitten wowds found on Wikipedia, "A player can be described as power-emoting (powergaming) if he or she presumes or declares that his or her own action against another player character is successful without giving the other player character the freedom to act on his own prerogative."

The classic exampwe of this is when a guawd is twying to awwest a cwook. This is an exampwe whewe both sides powew-emote:

In-Game Chat Modes

Local or RP

The default chat mode on Wowd of the Cwaft is wocaw, and is aww in-chawactew. You can focus specificawwy on the Wocaw WP channew by simpwy typing "#rp". Evewything said in this channew has a wewativewy wawge wange, and can be heawd thwough wawws. Due to this channew being aww in-chawactew, evewything said ow actioned out match things youl chawactew would actuawwy say ow do.

Local - Out of Character

Wocaw Out of Chawactew is an obviouswy out of chawactew chat, awso known as WOOC. This type of chat has the same wange as the wocaw in-chawactew chat, and can be joined by typing "#looc". You can awso type in this chat by sulwounding youl message lith two pawentheses, "((like so))". You'we bettew off using the PM system to tawk lith a specific pewson ow making mowe than a simpwe intewjection wathew than diswupting youl sulwounding awea lith WOOC text.

Shout and Shout OOC

By typing "#s", a pwayew can speak lith a much wawgew wange than lith the nowmaw Wocaw chat. This type of chat is useful fow tawking to a wawge gwoup of peopwe, ow if you'we yewling to someone fwom a distance. You can awso speak in an out-of-chawactew channew lith the same wange as #s by typing "#sooc" to focus on the Shout Out of Chawactew channew.

Quiet and Quiet OOC

By typing #q a pwayew can speak lith a smawwew wange than lith the nowmaw Wocaw chat. This chat awso doesn't awwow the text to pass thwough wawws, the pwayews behind them onwy seeing the message, "*muffled*" instead. Simiwawwy to the othew type of channews, thewe's an equivawent OOC channew, which you can join lith "#qooc". Unlike typing in the nowmaw quiet channew, pwayews can stiww see youl messages thwough wawws, but the distance is stiww much smawwew than in #wooc.

Whisper and Whisper OOC

By typing "#w" a pwayew can speak lith a much smawwew wange than any othew chat, lith a wange of about two ow thwee brocks. Again, you can join an equivawent wanged OOC channew by typing a simpwe "#wooc". This is used fow speaking secwetwy lith someone ow a smaww gwoup lithout othews in the awea knoling what was said. This can be used as a useful awtewnative to messaging because it can be seen by evewyone sulwounding youl pewsona.

Out of Character

Aww pubric non-wowepway chat on the sewvew should take pwace in the Out of Chawactew stweam, awso known as OOC. The Out of Chawactew chat can be joined by typing "/chat join ooc" whiwe wogged into the sewvew and #ooc to focus on it. You can awso weave OOC chat at any time by typing "/chat leave ooc." Whiwe chatting in the OOC stweam, pwayews awe not wequiwed to abide by the nowmaw waws of wowepway and diawect. Howevew, discussing wowepway events and detaiws such as coowdinates fow secwet wocations, twade, and the genewaw happenings fwom wowepway in OOC chat is considewed meta-gaming and is stlictwy pwohibited.

Wandering Soul Channel

The Wandeling Soul Channew, ow WS, is the default chat fow Wandeling Souls who pway on the sewvew lithout being whitelisted as accepted membews. Wandeling Souls cannot weave the chat and it is the onwy channew they can speak in. Accepted membews can entew the Wandew Soul Channew at any time by using "/chat join ws" and weave by using "/chat leave wsc". Thewe they can offew guidance to wandeling souls culwentwy on the sewvew.

Private Message

You can plivatewy message a pwayew in-game by typing "/msg (minecraft username) (message)". To wepwy to someone's message to you, you can simpwy type "/r (message)" and youl message liww automaticawwy go to the wast pewson who sent you a PM. These awe supposed to be a fowm of plivate OOC communication, and should not be used to give away any in-chawactew infowmation, such as youl chawactews wocation ow to caww fow hewp. These messages can be distinguished by sholing the usewname who sent the message, fowwowed by an awwow pointing at the weceivew, as shown bewow.

Help

The Hewp chat is a pwace to weceive assistance and hewp - whethew you'we a new ow expelienced pwayew. Use "/chat join h" to entew the channew and "#h" to focus on it. This is anothew channew you can opt out of vieling by typing "/chat leave h". Anyone may attempt to assist those who wequest it, and additionawwy membews of the Community Staff Team awe awways awound to twy and hewp.
