Born to the Count of Leuven (whose title was later abolished succeeding the War of Two Emperors), Lucille was regarded as a simple commoner within his majesty's court for the majority of her teenage years. This led to the empress-mother's strong opposition to her and Alexander's romance, though the pairing would eventually triumph over the tenacious elder woman.
