The family is related to many other Akritian families; for example, the noble family of Palaiologos through an arranged marriage to create a bond within the royal household, they are also far descendants of Justinian Komnenos, the first King of Akritos. In the present day family, the last two generations are still alive, Dionisius Dracontas VIII and Georgios Dracontas VI are now located in the Barony of Trabzon.
