Halflings have well documented history, [[A History of Halflings]] was written in Aegis to save Halfling history and culture. Originally appearing somewhere around 300, the Halfling people were shunned by both Dwarves and Humans alike. Many Halflings were known as thieves due to their short stature and inherent greed. Over time however, Halflings became less inclined to thievery and fighting. They began to settle into secluded villages far away where their culture was able to develop. As written in Petyr's book, Halfling culture thrived during this time and many distinctive 'Halfling' traits were founded during this time. Brewing and cooking became distinctive, taking on unique flavors and new twists. However religion never begins to take off, instead quasi-religious figures appear based around things that the Halflings admired the most: food, harvest, and safety. In the place of religion family values in the village grew, many believing that if one were to betray his family and village, he had betrayed everyone.

Many Halflings do not follow the religion of Humans. In older times many Halflings believed in the Pumpkin Lord, a magical being that appears before them. He resembles a man with a pumpkin for a head and throughout history has appeared to come the Halflings in times of need. Unbeknownst to the Halflings, they had been worshipping the arrival of [[Knox]], a deranged murderer. Many Halflings did not worship frequently, although many held The Pumpkin Lord in high regard building shrines in dedication to him. Among other gods that were worshipped is the Squidlord Arugula. In myths she appears as a giant squid engulfing entire villages and dragging them into the ocean. It is rumored that the Daemon Arugula grants power to those who are most devoted, turning them into powerful mages known as Munchkins.

In modern day, this worship is still present although movements have taken place and many Halfling folk have begun to worship [[Billy Bob]]. This has caused controversy throughout the village, and many people have rejected Billy, calling him a false prophet. Many Halflings do not hold religious values, while it is true they worship many gods they do not play a role in the lives of Halflings, instead they prefer to hold family values over religion. Halflings are a short, stout people of Aegis. None is known of how they came to be, it is believed they are a hybrid of Humans, Dwarves, and other races. Most halflings are now born from halfling parents. They are well-known for being peaceful people who live in small isolated villages, and live in houses called burrows. Halflings are well known as farmers, smokers, and drinkers. They hold some of the best parties known to the four races full of booze, games, and dancing. Many Halflings prefer a simple life isolated away from civilization, but a select few live in cities and towns.

Halflings have a reputation for being docile and often stay out of politics and warfare, but are quite dangerous when provoked.

Physical Attributes

Halflings by nature are not very diverse, they are often characterized by their small stature and hairy feet. Halfling hair is seen in many shades, however reds and blondes are the most common color. Many Halflings struggle to keep a single hair on their chin, but many famous Halflings have been able to grow full length beards. Their eyes are often mismatched in color, and usually have blue or green eyes. Despite the common misconception, Halflings do not have pointed ears.

Halflings commonly dress in light colors, and they tend to stay away from darker colors like black and grey. These colors compliment both their skin and their village, soft natural colors representing the farms and crops they live in. Traditionally, Halfling colors are green and yellow. Halflings do not wear shoes, their feet naturally protecting them from rocks and debris. Their feet are covered with hair as is their chest and head. As such, Halflings are almost always fair skinned to varying degrees. They are skinny and nimble, able to filch goods from unsuspecting passerby's and homes. In the past a Halfling known as the sky thief and his cousin stole all of the pillows from the Salvus throne. Halflings reputation of thieves and ruffians is not unfounded, not 10 years later a group of Halflings burned down an Adunian village in the dead of the night in protest of them logging their forest and stealing their land.

Other Attributes

Due to their relatively longer lives Halflings are known as laid back people, they are often brilliant tinkers, farmers, brewers, and cooks. They are famous for their many inventions and ingenious minds. Halflings in the past have been known to strive for greatness, many becoming Druids, Ascended, and in one case High Pontiff.

Halfling culture shapes their personality and attributes, many Halflings are gifted in some way and many go on to become powerful beings. Halflings are among the most talented farmers and bakers in the land, known for their secret recipes and herbs. They are also known for the massive festivals that they hold, many of them attracting thousands of visitors; the festivals are filled with food, fun, and drinks. It would be wrong to say that Halflings do not achieve greatness, in fact it is quite the opposite. Despite their size, Halflings are among one of the underestimated races, capable of achieving amazing power and influence. They are among some of the most skilled laborers, and most knowledgeable of the races.

Aging

Halflings reach maturity at age 33. The Halflings do not consider this number to be sacred, and do not have any rituals attached to entering adulthood. Halflings must be an adult to run for Elder or Mayor.

The Halfling lifespan is akin to Dwarves, many live to around 170 years old, while some Halfling are well over 200. This relatively long lifespan allows the Halflings to live live carefree, often times engaging in smoking, drinking, and partying for life. Halflings often have no goals or achievements, rather they let life pass by and enjoy the ride.

History

Halflings have well documented history, A History of Halflings was written in Aegis to save Halfling history and culture.

Over time the Halfling culture began to grow and change into the modern culture we know today. Many Halfling live within a singular village, they live isolated away from the hustle and bustle of city live. Some Halfling choose to move away, instead living in populated cities throughout the realm. Halfling culture has changed little since the founding of Goodborough in Aegis. Halflings have moved countless times since Aegis, each town different but the same to the last one. In most recent times the Halflings live in a village tucked away behind Laure’lin.

Religion

Many Halflings do not follow the religion of Humans. In older times many Halflings believed in the Pumpkin Lord, a magical being that appears before them. He resembles a man with a pumpkin for a head and throughout history has appeared to come the Halflings in times of need. Unbeknownst to the Halflings, they had been worshipping the arrival of Knox, a deranged murderer.

In modern day, this worship is still present although movements have taken place and many Halfling folk have begun to worship Billy Bob. This has caused controversy throughout the village, and many people have rejected Billy, calling him a false prophet. Many Halflings do not hold religious values, while it is true they worship many gods they do not play a role in the lives of Halflings, instead they prefer to hold family values over religion. As such, family and community plays a larger role in the Halfling village. They hold these core values of friendship and good will higher than that of gods and idols.

Villages

Willow Hollow

The Halflings currently live in the secluded village of Willow Hollow. It is a town rife with adventure and mystery. The village is home to dozens of Halflings, currently there are 3 Elders, a mayor, and a sheriff. Halfling law is governed by the Elders who make and propose the law, the law is upheld by the sheriff and his deputy. As such the mayor is a figure head of the village, often times being elected in order to communicate with 'bigguns' or other nations.

The Halflings face many great dangers: necromancers, bears, and Orcs. As such life remains peaceful and the Halflings are often spotted standing outside of the tavern, eager to start a conversation and share a drink with visitors and friends.

Random Tidbits
