Guinevere I of Velen (13th of the Sun’s Smile, 1879 - 1940s), also known as Protectress of the Aschenwald and Guinevere Lucia von Reuss, was the 2nd Margrave of Velen following her father's abdication in 1901. She had known of her father's plans to abdicate, murdering all of her siblings a year before to ensure her inheritance of the Margravial seat. As the first female inheritor of the line, she ushered her people to Cherskavy. This settlement was like a light in the darkest of forests that commonly bred spooks of all sorts. Guinevere spent the rest of her reign hunting down several of the nastier spooks while also taking back Guise from Petra. In 1914, she stepped down as Margravine to become an inquisitor to continue to protect the Aschenwald from spooks. Stories of her courage are commonly spread amongst young Aschenwalder so they are less fearful of the woods when learning to hunt.

Folk Tale

It is said throughout the Aschenwald people that the forest itself is protected by the spirit of Guinevere I. Her many triumphs during her life against the voidal forces inside the woods marked her as a legend amongst the people. When she abdicated her title as Magravine to formally pursue her passion as an inquisitor of the forest, she cemented herself in the eyes of the people who hunted or lived near the forest as a protectress.

Many young Aschenwalders who are learning to hunt pray to the spirit of Guinevere I before entering the forest in hopes she keeps an eye out for them amongst the horrors that lurk inside.
