Furef are a species of sapiens, renown for their intellectual capacity, amazing agility, and loyalty to their potential masters. Furef are mostly treasured for their ability to collect and steal items of value, namely metals, expensive jewelry, and other luxury items.

Appearance

These small, slender monkeys appear rather similar to any other primate, with a few distinguishable features. Their entire body is absolutely littered with a thick layer of matted fur, appearing either brown, grey, or black in color. Commonly, their eye color comes in yellow, orange, green, gold, and brown. They bare long, elongated claws, designed to scale tall buildings and structures, although, they're ill-suited for close quarter combat. Equally as large, their ears resemble that of an Elf's, typically growing to become even larger than that of the High Elves. Their sharpened teeth are also used to tear through meat, but have proven to be quite the defense mechanism in combat.

Adult Furef can grow anywhere between 18 - 24 inches, or 1.5 – 2 feet. On average, they weight just shy of ten pounds, making for a rather small, flexible, and light primate. An infant Furef, dubbed as a "Furaf," is about the size of a human hand.

Habitat

The Furef is rather uncommon in nature, more commonly found in urban environments, such as sprawling cities or other settlements, typically isolated from warmer, more intense climates. These primates typically occupy rooftops, alleyways, or even sewers. While adaptable to varying degrees of weather, they're extremely opposed to inhabiting hot, desert climates, where water is barren, and the scathing heat impacts their very furry exterior.

However, more common than not, one will not find wild Furefs. Instead, they'll be alongside their designated master, abandoning any previous nest they may have constructed.

Behavior

As one of the most intellectual primates ever discovered, aside from perhaps the Hou-Zi, Furef are highly valued by collectors, breeders, tamers, and adventurers. While they aren't at all hostile, they do tend to be quite the hoarders, robbing unsuspecting bystanders of their small belongings. The Furef is an expert in pick-pocketing, infamous for using their slender fingers to slip coins, rings, watches, and other small, metallic objects from one's belongings. All shiny, metallic objects are of interest to Furefs, including items forged from copper, silver, arum, ferrum, and more.

After stealing an object, Furefs will retreat to higher grounds, using their uniquely agile speed and useful claws to scale buildings, run along streesides, and duck into small, cramped corners of the city. Furefs always have a designated hideout for their stolen goods, either hidden within a city, or in their master's home. If caught stealing goods, they'll immediately retreat to higher grounds, attempt to mock their victim, typically using their distinct, signature purring noise.

Their language consists of jumbled, seemingly random syllables and screeches, completely unlike any sort of pre-existing language. However, one word is recognizable in common, being "Shiny," which they will repeat in a raspy voice over and over again, to communicate the desire for metallic or luxurious goods.

It is extremely common for Furefs to have a designated master. These masters, often times thieves, crooks, or criminals who utilize the Furef for their own needs, tempt the Furef with shiny objects, supplying their newfound friend with valuable goods. In return, Furefs will happily go out into the city and retrieve small objects for their masters, so long as they're continuously supplied with their own set of metallic items.

Origins

Furefs were originally "discovered" during the early days of Vailor, although, they aren't believe to have been native to the continent. It is suspected that criminal organizations ship Furefs overseas between continents, as their original habitat must have been on Athera. Very, very little is known about their origins, as no fossilized remains of Furefs have ever been unearthed.

Weaknesses & Strengths

Please note: The following information is scarcely known. Do not metagame to know this information unless directly informed in-character.

Furefs have been imbued with extremely rugged and resilient skin. While they can be cut and bruised, like any other animal, they have a unique weakness to ferum weaponry. In contrast, Furefs have, somehow, been granted the ability to resist Holy Magic. Although their origins are oddly vague, it is suspected they are a creation of some unholy entity, due to this abnormal resilience.
