City of Vallagne

Vallagne is the Capital city of the commonwealth of Petra, Located on top of the river valley of Petra it is also the largest city in the commonwealth. It serves as both the seat of government as well as the cultural hub of the realm. It is home to many Heartlanders of the commonwealth but also various peoples from other races and cultures.
History
Construction
The City was Commissioned by Renilde I, Archduchess of Petra as a new home for her people and seat of the government. A group of architects went on to design the city as well as its surroundings. Unlike most cities which follow natural boundaries or simply have more squared walled features, Vallagne was designed with a pattern of Circles. Namely one large circle for the city itself and a smaller one for the Citadel together with smaller circles formed by various buildings. This gives the City a very unique look. The City was designed with ample space to house a population of 30.000, around the number of Citizens that would flee towards the new continent.
Rapid city growth
Upon the arrival to Aevos in 131SA the peoples of Petra got settled in very quickly into their new Capital city. Around that time the population was estimated to be between 20.000 to 25.000. The city was filling up quickly but still with some housing to spare. As the years went on in the new continent Vallagne would experience a rapid growth in its population as more and more people moved to the City on the Petran river housing started to become an issue. All the Houses were sold out in the city itself prompting more strict laws to be put in place trying to free up some extra spaces. In Addition many houses in the outskirts of Vallagne were settled in and new villages called “faubourg” were built next to the city. Even Towns like Chambery located adjacent to Vallagne profited from the rapid growth doubling the size of their population. The Population of Vallagne is now estimated to be around 55.000, with additional estimated 15.000 to 20.000 living in faubourg and Chambery. More faubourgs are likely to spring up and the government is planning on extending the city itself too.
Geography
Vallagne is located on top of the cliffy river valley of Petra nestled between the river valley and the adjacent mountain it stretches from the north river curve down into the southern meadows. The Location comes with several advantages and disadvantages, while being very defensive from the North, West and North eastern parts the city is very open towards the southern meadows. In terms of agriculture the city itself has access to very little farmlands, while Vallagne has a few farms located between the city and the mountains the river bend it is located on is a very fertile region for grapes hence the abundance of vineyards dotted all around the City.
