Bell Sano was an Orenian philosopher, political scientist, economist, author, and lawyer. He also served in the several different Orenian defense units for several decades, garnering several medals and the title of "Senior Sergeant." He's most famous for establishing the political ideology of "Sanoism," paving the way for groups such as the Worker's Populist Party to be formed. He wrote many pieces of political literature, most being published from the 1580's - 1610's.

History

Birth

On the 12th of Malin's Welcome, 1515, in Felsen, Oren, Bell Sano had been born. Bell Sano, born Bell Acaele'par, had been the son of a drunkard woman. Without a living, biological father, his mother, Mary Acaele'par, sought assistance from her own father, Galen Acaele'par. Bell's grandfather would then be his de facto guardian, as Mary was soon slain by road bandits, dying at the age of twenty four in 1516. Throughout the next six years, Galen would raise his grandson, living in the city of Laureh'lin.

Childhood

After Galen's death in 1522, a young, seven year old Bell Acaele'par had been abandoned. The local guard force appeared, and placed the child with the Rider family, living in the Caliphate of Khalestine. He had been introduced to a young woman, Luna Rider, who would be his foster mother, along with his young peer and fellow orphan, Kaitlyn Sano. After living in the local household for not even a year, Vincent Sano, an Orenian metal worker, who had made arrangements to adopt Kaitlyn, had come in person to bring the girl back to the village of Luciensport. Not willing to split the pair apart, Vincent also formally adopted Bell, granting him the surname "Sano."

Upon being formally adopted, Bell and Kaitlyn followed their new father figure back to the Orenian Empire, sailing to the small, religious village of Luciensport. He had been recently wed to a Margaret Sano. This new, adopted family would define Bell's home life for the next decade.

Teenage Years

Growing up in Luciensport, Bell Sano had lived in a small, cramped home, with relatively poor living standards. At the age of 14, he served in the Cathedral of Saint Adrian as an altar boy, enjoying his brief service. His father, Vincent, had also taken the opportunity to become a deacon, raising Bell with strict, religious values.

At the age of 17, however, Bell quit his religious obligations, moving away to the nearby college of Skyfall. The facility was a scholar's guild and university, and eventually became a Lordship under the Kingdom of Vandoria. The region was governed by Sarrion Zytiaear, and the dean had been his wife, Lanavia Zytiaear. Bell had applied to learn Orenian law, majoring in the subject, writing several brief essays in classes. This would continue into Bell's mid-20's, where he finally graduated, becoming a full time scholar within the university. He theorized and contemplated different religious components, including morality, heresy, and so forth.

Military

Upon reaching his 30's, Bell Sano had enrolled into the Felsen Brigade, serving under commandant Markese de Rolle. This continued smoothly for nearly a decade until the infamous De Rolle Rebellion of 1568, where commandant De Rolle had instructed his subordinates to act directly against the leadership of Felsen. In an effort to create an "Independent Felsen," de Rolle ultimately failed. Later, when migrating to the continent of Vailor, Sano was later reinstated as a sergeant in the Johannesburg Capital Police, under the authority of Ser Ulric von Aesterwald. Serving for decades, he was promoted to Senior Sergeant, acting as third in command for the entire brigade.

Political Career

It was no secret to his fellow guards that Sano was very politically opinionated, and heavily opposed many imperialist polices enacted by the administration. Thus, he drafted The Sanoist Manifesto, which would serve as a basic guide to his own political beliefs, known as "Sanoism." Published in 1581, The Sanoist Manifesto gained much attention from the establishment class, as well as the working citizenry. It quickly became taboo, due to the ideology's favorability towards republicanism and anti-imperialism.

On the 1st of the Sun's Smile, the IAAC, otherwise known as the Imperial Anti-Orenian Activities Committee, had deemed it illegal to preach Sanoism within the Empire. Bell Sano was instantly placed on trial, charged with a litany of crimes. He was pardoned of all wrongdoing, however, at the price of abolishing all Sanoist practices, and sacrificing the names of many other political activists. After the fall of Johannesburg and the temporary abolition of the Empire, however, Sanoism was released of it's illegal status, then being openly practiced by some.

At this time, he had been removed from his position in the guard force, then establishing a private law firm. He served as an attorney for those on trial within the Empire, and was even paid for his legal practices. He also dabbled in education, attempting to establish a school in the city of Johannesburg, but also failed due to his negative reputation and lack of funding.

As Sano aged, he became a full time scholar, deciding to reside in the Library of Dragur, spending the rest of his days writing essays, novels, and so forth.

Death

On the 17th of the First Seed, 1619, in the city of Alban, Haense, Bell Sano had faced a rather unfortunate death. The frail, 104 year old man had been drinking quite heavily with the local guard force, who he had grown quite friendly with. The drunkard scholar eventually engaged in vulgar attacks against a foreign Halfling, by the name of Marcus, who had also been drinking that night. The Halfling then pushed the elderly man off of a balcony, instantly fracturing his entire body. He passed away later that same night. However, his associates at the Library of Dragur happily published his final work, The Sanoist Compendium, on the 18th of the First Seed, 1619. Sano had died only a mere day after completing his work.

Marriage

At the older age of 64, Sano had been wed to a girl he had attended college with, Charlotte Esperenza. They later had a daughter together, Hanya Sano, who moved on to become the director of recreation for the city of Adelsburg.

Personality

Sano had always been a grumpier, more gruff individual, focusing far more on his political works and career than his family or social life. He was raised in an extremely religious household, resulting in the man constantly preaching the word of the Canon, and heavily influencing his work.

Legacy

After Sano's death, several notable scholars and politicans had adopted at least some tenets of his philosophy, including Viktor Clarke, former mayor of Metz, Dirk Novokain, fellow philosopher, and Awylan Wistari, another political theorist. In addition, an entire political party was established in the name of Sanoism, titled the Worker's Populist Party. This was established by Harian farmer, Darrell Rhodes, to advocated for the resurgence of Sanoist policies throughout the continent. However, outside of sporadic and short-lived political movements over the course of the last two centuries, Sanoism has had generally little impact on mainstream political thought.

Tidbits

• Bell Sano was actually blind in his left eye, due to a run in with a fellow guard during his time in the Felsen Militia.

• There used to be two memorials dedicated to Bell Sano on the continent of Axios; One in the city of Adelsburg, and one in the Alban mountains.

• Bell Sano was extremely close friends with Maer Bradshaw Gray and Archchancellor Mattington Ironsword, and even fought alongside them during his service to the Empire.
