Anabel Lisette of the House of Devereux was a Curonian-born Princess, later becoming an Imperial Princess and Duchess of Cascadia upon marrying Prince Romulus, Duke of Cascadia. She went on to become Empress-Mother of the Empire of Renatus, after the crowning of her firstborn, Godfrey III, Emperor of Renatus. Later throughout the war, the Renatian Imperial Crown declared her as the lawful Queen of Curonia, given that each other Devereux had joined that of the Orenian rebellion.

Biography

Early Life

Born as the first daughter of King Wilhelm I of Curonia and Queen Evelyn Falkenrath, Anabel led a peaceful early childhood, the young noblewoman proving to be incredibly astute, devoting much of her time and energy toward progressing her education. Often times being taunted by her six siblings, specifically her older brother Jarrack I of Curonia, she turned to reading and scholarly avenues to pass her time.

It was in her early youth that she first made acquaintance with the Imperial Prince Romulus Cascadia, the two becoming very close friends throughout their childhood.

Adolescence and Marriage

As the years progressed, the people around the two began to speculate the possibility of courtship between Anabel and the Prince Romulus. The families of both took note of the growing relations, with Romulus’ mother, Empress Helen, bringing forth the idea of a formal betrothal. It was decided at that point for Anabel to take residency within the Imperial Capital of Helena, allowing her to both further her education as well as her courtship with the prince.

Anabel adored living within Helena. She found the culture, people and opportunity to be exactly as she’d always dreamed of. She trained in etiquette under Empress Helen Horen, and built an impactful relationship with the Imperial Princess Amelia Philippa, whomst she trusted like family.

Romulus and Anabel wed at age 15 on the 4th of Tobias’ bounty, 1706, within the Imperial Cathedral of Helena and overseen by High Pontiff Pontian I. Anabel was the first ever of House Devereux to hold an Imperial title. The wedding was grand, with the ceremony being immediately followed by a reception held in the palace gardens.

The pair were devout to eachother, however only three years into their marriage, Romulus went missing under the pretence of death. This led distraught Anabel to move back from the Imperial Capital of Helena to that of the Curonian city of Avalain. The pair were later reunited with each other after Romulus returned, announcing that his disappearance was due to that of a temporary exile.

The couple bore three children.

As Empress-Mother

It was at the dawn of the Renatian-Orenian War that Anabel's young son, Remus, was crowned as Emperor of the Empire of Renatus. This naturally set a course of action unpredicted by the princess. Curonia, currently under the regency of her elder brother Ecbert, declared allegiance of the rebelling vassals- being Haense and Leuven. Torn between her siblings and kingdom, and that of her husband and children- Anabel chose to stand beside her son and newly-crowned emperor, Godfrey III, Emperor of Renatus.

A contest for Curonia

On the 15th of Tobias’ Bounty, 1715, the Renatian Imperial crown, specifically that of Emperor Godfrey, declared Anabel as the rightful Queen of Curonia. This had come due to Curon's missive swearing featly to the rival empire of Oren. In response, the Curonian Regent Ecbert Devereux, on behalf of the young king Alfred, issued a declaration of disownment toward Anabel- in their eyes stripping her of her name, house, and titles.

The Renatian Imperial crown did not recognise this disownment as legitimate due to the prior made banishment of all Devereux kin, except for Anabel.

In 1717, Curonia declared allegiance to Renatus, due to issues surrounding promises of independence. In turn, Renatus had offered a pact detailing full independence of the Kingdom. The title was given back to the legitimate King Alfred II, with the council operating a regency after Ecbert Devereux's death

Dissolution of Horen

Following the dissolution of House Horen as decreed by His Imperial Majesty, Godfrey II, in 1721 Anabel was no longer regarded as a Horen, taking on the family name of Cascadia in its place.
