Alfred Barclay (3rd of Sun's Smile, 1930), is the firstborn son and successor of Manfred II, Duke of Reinmar, and his wife, Ravenna of Thurant. He inherited the Duchy of Reinmar following his father's Writ of Abdication, in 1955 - only the year before which, Alfred was knighted into the Royal Order of the Knightly Circle of Saint Godwin. He was wed to Theodosia Baruch on the exact day following his inheritance, in a private ceremony.

Baron of Sigradz (1930-1955)

Alfred was born to Manfred II, Duke of Reinmar and his wife Ravenna of Thurant on the 3rd of Sun's Smile, 1930. He grew up primarily under the tutelage of his uncle, Ser Konstanz Barclay - whilst serving later as a ward of Alyona, Baroness of Verskaya with intentions of becoming a Haeseni Envoy later in life. His earliest years were marked with little, aside from studies and involvement in the Haeseni courts. He grew closest to his cousins of House Kortrevich, primarily Leonid and Irena - who would later become the Lord Marshal of Haense and Baroness of Koravia, respectively.

As Alfred grew older, his duties became more imposing. At his father's wishes - Alfred began service in the Brotherhood of St. Karl, and made to represent his own house in the militaristic affairs of Haense. When he came of age to be oathed, having completed his trials to become an oathedman - Alfred set out alongside Rosalind Weiss and Rickard Tosali. On this outing, intending to slay a bear - Alfred suffered grievous wounds, losing the usage of an eye in the process. Manfred also desired his son to be married young, unlike himself - and so Alfred sought dutifully for a wife, before eventually deciding on Teodosia Baruch. The two went on to betroth and finally wed in 1955 - the same week of Manfred's abdication and Alfred's inheritance to the Duchy of Reinmar.

Duke of Reinmar (1955-1968)

Sankt Johannsburg, circa 1956

Preceding Alfred's inheritance was the Siege of Breakwater - where he'd been wounded amongst the first Veletzian sallies outwards from the Keep. He'd been nursed back to health over the following months, and ultimately came to receive the Duchy of Reinmar as King Aleksandr's army came to march.. His first true lesson as a Peer came whilst commanding elements of the Haeseni vanguard amidst the Siege of Brasca, where formations had to be organized to protect siege weaponry. The conflict with Veletz raged only further as Alfred ruled over his fiefdom beneath King Aleksandr of Hanseti-Ruska - despite the location of Sankt Johannsberg have laid on the border with the League of Veletz, rarely was it subjected to banditry and raids.

Alfred's father, Manfred bequeathed upon him a project to-be inherited, the dream of Reinmaren independence. Only from the times of Saint Johann and onwards had the Reinmaren finally begun to embrace their own cultural image, and it was Manfred's intention to continue the pursuit of that, alongside the Grand Prince of Minitz, Ferdinand. Though it came to be that Manfred fell ill and inevitably abdicated in-place of his son, Alfred. For Manfred had begun the work, and set-forth a snowball effect that Alfred had to carry onwards. This began on Alfred's end with talks with Grand Prince Ivan of Kusoraev, whom Alfred oftentimes discussed political matters with in private.

Though the talks were not of an official sense, Alfred knew what his liege-lords sought in-turn, in order to let him, and Ferdinand's son, Leon achieve Reinmaren Statehood. Further and further were preparations made, amidst the war - and as the Battles of Westmark, Hippo's Gorge, Fredericksburg, and finally, Drusco came to a close; Aleksandr and Alfred had finally begun official talks to let himself free of his vassalage.
