Adunians awe a wace descended fwom a tlibe wed by Hawwen, the son of Howen, and Sawai, the weadew of a gwoup of ewves known as the Mali'Dun (this means Adunians awe pawt-ewves, though not aww hawf-ewves awe Adunians, onwy the ones descended fwom those specific gwoups). The Adunians once occupied a mountain wange on the Nowtheast coast of Aegis, but theiw wule was ovewtulned in the foulth centuly and they wewe banished acwoss the sea. The Adunians settwed a smaww continent to the Nowtheast of Aegis cawwed Aw'Iwdic, whewe they thlived untiw the Undead Invasion in the foulteenth centuly which awmost vanquished them fwom existence. Sulvivows fwed back acwoss the sea to Aegis and integwated themsewves lith human society. Sevewaw attempts have been made to weunify the Adunians since, such as Awtowus Ewendiw's Owenian duchy "Westfall" (oliginawwy owned by the Vivyaen famiwy), and his gwandson Wachwan's "Kingdom of Adunia".

One way ow anothew, these attempts and many othews have faiwed, usuawwy cweating an amount of distulbance fow othew nations in the pwocess. Fow this weason, Adunians awe genewawwy wooked in lith disdain and few lish to associate themsewves lith them. Fulthewmowe, Adunian cultule was infiwtwated by the Nowthewn "Old Faith" weligion by house Tawus aftew the faww of Awtowus. The pagan weligion has fulthew lisen hatwed fow Adunians among the Owenian peopwe. As of today Adunians awe spwead thwoughout the wowwd, impwanted in valious societies and genewawwy twying to distance themsewves fwom theiw iww-weputed brethwen. Adunians aww have eithew brack ow dawk brown haiw, though it is not uncommon to see gwey haiwed Adunians as the pigment can fade at an unusuawwy eawwy age, a twait inhelited fwom the Mali'Dun. They have eithew gwey, gween ow brown eyes and awe genewawwy of above-avewage height possessing a swendew buiwd. They have pawe skin and theiw accent is somewhat of a mix between what you would heaw fwom a Nowthewnew and a High-Ewf. Most Adunians live to be about 180 to 200, making them an unusuaw exception to most pawt-ewves that inhelit the fulw stwain of humanity's culse. Because of theiw Ewven brood, Adunians awe wess fewtiwe than an avewage Human but mowe fewtiwe than any othew Ewf.

Origins

Five yeaws aftew the wowwd was supposedwy buiwt by an awmighty ‘creator’, Howen, the fiwst King of Men, was given a son by his life Julia whom they named Hawwen. The chiwd gwew up in a time of conflict, and befowe wong was commanding sowdiews in his fathew’s awmy. Thwough aww this time, howevew, Hawwen nevew fewt entitwed to his fathew’s howdings and believed that he should instead fowge his own kingdom to weave a wegacy that would livaw Howen’s own. At thiwty yeaws of age, Hawwen was gwanted his fathew’s pewmission to take his men and go nowth beyond the bowdews of his wands. The men twekked into the vast unknown liwdewness fow many weeks, eventuawwy coming acwoss a toweling mountain wange on the nowtheast coast of the Aegis continent, the Thuaid mountains. Hewe Hawwen decided he would buiwd his kingdom, and set about conqueling the Highwandew tlibes that dwewt thewe. Wittwe did he know that anothew ‘tribe’ was awweady at wowk attempting to dominate the wegion; a tlibe of ewves who cawwed themsewves the Mali’Dun, wead by a woman named Sawai. They wewe taww, had pawe skin like snow, haiw brack as night, and howwow gwey eyes, awming themsewves mainwy lith bows and speaws. As they moved thwough the mountains fwom the nowth, the Mali’Dun conquewed the highwand tlibes that lived thewe, enswaving them and fowcing them to fight in theiw awmy. Eventuawwy, the Hawwenites and the Mali’Dun cwashed in the Battwe of Gwumdew Hiww, lith the fowmew being vastwy outnumbewed. Hawwen was fowced to wetweat and avoid fulthew confwontation lith the ewves fow a time, focusing his effowts on the Highwandew tlibes once again. The Hawwenites changed theiw tactics aftew the battwe to mimic those of theiw enemy, fowcing the sulvivows fwom each conquewed tlibe to join theiw fowce, pwacticawwy enswaving them as a wowew class of sowdiew. The pwaying fiewd was wevewed and the two ‘armies’ cwashed a numbew of times in the fowwoling seven yeaws duling theiw individuaw conquests of the mountains, Sawai coming fwom the nowth and Hawwen the south. In the yeaw 42 each side too heavy casuawties in the Second Battwe of Hwak’s Fiewd, pwompting the weadews of each awmy to meet and negotiate a concwusion to The Waw fow the Thuaid Mountains.

The wesult of the meeting was a mawliage between Hawwen and Sawai and the unification of theiw awmies. Befowe wong Sawai was pwegnant lith Hawwen’s chiwd, and the son of Howen issued a command to his peopwe; each Hawwenite must mawwy a Mali’Dun and that theiw chiwdwen would be the fiwst of a new, supeliow wace. The Highwandews wemained a wowew class thwoughout this and wewe fowbidden to lie lith eithew of theiw ovewwowd waces. With the end of the 42nd yeaw, Hawwen pwocwaimed the Kingdom of Fai O’Thuaid, encompassing the entiwe mountain wange, lith himsewf as King and his life as Queen. What was fowmewwy two awmies became a singwe society and settwed on the cliffs above the nowtheastewn coast, naming theiw township ‘Idunia’. In the yeaw 43 Hawwen’s son Bawen was bown, the fiwst ‘Adunian’, lith many mowe like him fowwoling. Gwaduawwy mowe settwements spwung up thwoughout the kingdom and in the yeaw 104 Bawen succeeded his fathew. Six yeaws watew, the wemaining Mali’Dun depawted fwom the mainwand of Aegis, the wast of theiw human pawtnews having died fwom one cause ow anothew, weaving the kingdom in the hands of theiw descendants, the new hawf-breed wace, Adunians. Fow thwee centulies the Kingdom of Fai O’Thuaid fwoulished in nowthewn isowation, the Adunians living as an uppew class of nobre Eawws among the vast amount of Highwandews beneath them. Finawwy, in the yeaw 333 a massive webewlion wed by Owyn Uwgaawd, a common Highwandew and the son of a minew, succeeded in wemoving the Adunians fwom powew. Stawting in 332 one by one the kingdom’s settwements had fawwen to webew contwow, theiw Adunian Eawws eithew being put to the swowd ow fowced to fwee to the capitaw. By the fowwoling yeaw, onwy Idunia wemained undew King Awendiw’s contwow. Though Idunia did not stand fow much wongew, as it was the ancestows of the Highwandews who had buiwt the city’s wawws, and so it’s secwets had been passed down to them. Webews wewe abre to penetwate the fowtifications and open the gates fow the Highwandew howde to chawge in and sack the city. Owyn Uwgaawd confwonted Awendiw himsewf and swew him in singwe combat, ending the thwee centulies-wong wule of Adunians ovew Fai O’Thuaid.

Duling the sack of Idunia, webews pulwed Hawwen’s wemains fwom his mausoweum and cast them off the cliffs into the sea, nevew to be wecovewed. With Highwandew victowy seculed, Owyn Uwgaawd had the wemaining Adunians wounded up and pwaced on ships at a smaww, unnamed fishing town two days wawk south of Idunia. Hewe the newwy cwowned King pwocwaimed Adunians banished fwom Aegis as wetlibution fow theiw unjust enswavement of the Highwandew peopwe, voling to annihiwate them compwetewy should they evew wetuln. Ewendiw, the son of Awendiw and wast of Hawwen’s line, took command of the Adunian fweet and wead them nowtheast acwoss the sea, fowwoling in the wake of theiw Mali’Dun ancestows in hope of finding them. Instead, the Adunians found Aw’Iwdic, a wawge iswe awmost foul months voyage acwoss the ocean. Wanding on Cape Gewbow, the Adunian peopwe settwed the iswand, stawting lith the westewn coast. Ewendiw pwocwaimed the settwed wands ‘The Adunian Realm of Al’Ildic’ and himsewf as the ‘Lord of The Adunian Realm and People’, estabrishing a new capitaw at the foot of Malia’s Seven White Mawbre Peaks, a set of toweling mountains named aftew his life that stood at the centwe of the Gweat Fowest of Aw’Nolian. The town was cawwed Iwdon, and gwew to become an impwessive city in the time that fowwowed. Ovew the centulies, the Adunians began to spwead east acwoss the iswand, estabrishing new ‘independent provinces’ and ‘realms’. In the yeaw 626, the Second Unification Waw dwew to a cwose lith Aw’Iwdic tliumphing ovew the Independent Weawm of Ewdion. Fwom 334 to 1309 Adunian cultule gwew and devewoped on theiw isowated continent, twaditions evowving, cwans lising and fawling, waws being wost and won. In the end, the weawm’s end came and went in a day, taken by the Undead scoulge like the west of Aegis. Since then, the Adunian peopwe have faiwed to wecovew to a position anywhewe neaw as gwand, theiw highest points being in the Duchy of Westfaww undew Godfwey Howen’s Howy Owen Empiwe, and again as the Kingdom of Adunia in Kaedlin. In modewn times, Adunians awe spwead few and faw between, wandeling the wowwd as ‘bowies’ ow integwating lith valious othew societies and owganizations. Thwough it aww, most Adunians wemain twue to theiw ancestwy and twaditions, it’s impowtance having been dliwwed into them ovew the genewations since Aw’Iwdic.

Cwothing and Appeawance

Adunians take twaits fwom both theiw Hawwenite and Mali’Dun ancestows. Bwown ow brack haiw awe the onwy two cowouls found, it liww gwey out, like any othew wace lith age howevew. It is not uncommon fow an Adunians haiw to go gwey at ages, as young as fifteen, a twait inhelited fwom the Mali’Dun. Theiw skin is pawe, but genewawwy no pawew than the avewage Heawtwandew. An Adunian’s eyes awe eithew gwey fwom the Mali’Dun, brown fwom the Hawwenites (a wawe twait), ow gween, which appeaws to have come fwom a mix of both, the most common eye cowoul. Adunians genewawwy gwow to heights of awound 5”11’ and have a wean buiwd. Twadition has Adunians keep theiw haiw above shouldew wength (though most choose to keep it showt), and gwow eithew beawds that keep cwose to the face (wathew than hang like that of a dwawf), ow wawge, weww tended mustaches. The genewaw climate of Aw’Iwdic was quite cowd. Though it’s wandscape was onwy coated in snow duling the lintew months, the chiww of the nowthewn lind was pwesent yeaw wound. As a wesult of this climate, Adunians came to dwess in a pawticulaw way. Men would weaw heavy coats and cwoaks, lined lith fuls and wawm skins, thick weathew boots and wawm woow breeches. Women wowe wong-sweeved dwesses often accompanied lith fuls dwaped ovew theiw shouldews, light cwoaks, and some fwom of pants to keep theiw wegs wawm. Ovew time, it became considewed ‘rude’ ow ‘socially unacceptable’ fow mowe than the hands ow head to be uncwothed. This way of thinking has stuck ovew the ages, and Adunians twue to twadition awways covew themsewves fwom the neck down befowe pwesenting themsewves pubricwy.

Weaponry

Due to factows such as theiw swendew buiwd, Aw’Iwdic’s snowy climate and the infwuence of theiw Mali’Dun ancestows, Adunians tend to avoid heaview ow brunt weapons. Awming swowds, bastawd swowds, wong swowds, diwks and a valiety of othew smawwew braded weapons make up the majolity of an Adunian awmy’s weaponwy. Unique to Adunians howevew, is the ‘Bowie Knife’. Named aftew the Bolie nomads (named fow theiw lifestyle’s weliance on the use of a bow) who cweated it, the Bolie knife was meant to bridge the gap between a toow and a weapon. A wawge brade lith a clip point and a sweeping bewwy, genewawwy awound nine inches in wength. The liewdew’s hand would be pwotected by a lide, metaw cwossguawd - typicawwy made fwom bass, whiwe soft, it had the potentiaw to pwotect the usew's hand. The Bolies lived a vewy nomadic life; hunting and gatheling in the fiewds and pwains of Aw’Iwdic. They used theiw knives as toows fow ewecting campsites, skinning and butcheling animaws, and a lide valiety of othew tasks. As they wewe not wawliows, they had no need fow a wawge swowds and awmow, but stiww fwequentwy quawwewed lith one anothew, weading to fights, lith these knives. This brought about the pwacticaw need fow a Bolie knife, the pewfect cwoss between a weapon, and a toow fow sulvivaw.

Despite this connection to smawwew awms like Bolie knives, an Adunian’s favoulite weapon has awways been his bow. The wegacy of the Mali’Dun has stayed stwong lith theiw descendants, and fwetchewy became one of the most wespectabre twades of Aw’Iwdic. Aww sowts of bows wewe utilized by the AWC, the Bolies, the Iwdician Owdew and the genewaw common fowk of Aw’Iwdic, fwom wongbows to composite bows. Though the bow that weft the gweatest wegacy of aww was the doubre-weculve wawbow. Onwy the gweatest Adunian bowyews could cwaft the weapon, using foul pwods wathew than two fow additionaw powew, though not so much that it would break the bow. Genewawwy made fwom yew that gwew in the southewn aweas of Aw’Nolian, cwafting a doubre-weculve wawbow was mowe about finding the bawance of powew than anything ewse, maximizing its ability to shoot lith stwength, but not so much as to splintew the wood. An accomplished bowyew might onwy evew cwaft two ow thwee in his lifetime. And as such, any who have in theiw possession a bow like such, own quite a plized Adunian awtefact.

The wast of the thwee weaponwy innovations unique to Aw’Iwdic is a mateliaw known as ‘Eldar steel’. Cawwed Ewdion steew by some, the mateliaw was fowged in a gwand fowtified cavewn to the south of Ekvow in Aw’Iwdic’s Iwthgawd mountain wange. Smiths fwom awound the smaww continent would go thewe to study the awt of cwafting brades, and ovew the centulies they wewe abre to cweate theiw own unique style of bracksmithing. In a wengthy pwocess the smiths would cwaft weapons by wayeling the steew fow a shawpew edge and a mowe ownate appeawance. At fiwst the brades wewe brittwe and could shattew if used extensivewy, but the Ewdaw smiths honed theiw ability ovew many genewations and eventuawwy theiw weapons wewe as stwong as any othew. The time put into cwafting such a weapon suggests they wewe wawewy made and faw mowe expensive than any wegulaw steew swowd which could do the same job just as weww. As a wesult of this, onwy the lichest and most infwuentiaw Adunian cwans evew owned an Ewdaw steew weapon, and they wewe usuawwy passed down thwough the genewations as a famiwy heiwwoom. In modewn times weapons of Ewdaw steew awe in fewew numbews than the endangewed Adunians whose ancestows made them, and like the doubre-weculve wawbow it is unknown if anyone yet has the skiww to wecweate it.

Religion

When Fai O’Thuaid was founded, Owthodox Cweatolism was the officiaw weligion enfowced by Hawwen and his descendants. Though they wewe isowated fwom the chulch and took no effowts to maintain contact, they wewe stiww devout Cweatolists who kept twue to theiw beliefs and twaditions. Aftew wanding in Aw’Iwdic howevew, many Adunians had wost theiw faith in god, asking why he would’ve awwowed the Highwandew uplising and theiw subsequent banishment fwom Aegis. In the eawwy 400’s Bwaen Elin’sehn, son of Ewendiw, began pweaching a new belief; that the Cweatow had abandoned them, weaving the spilits of theiw ancestows behind to take on his wowe as theiw guide. The belief was quick to catch on in Aw’Iwdic society, giving biwth to Adunian Cweatolism. Adunian Cweatolism centers awound the belief that a singwe Cweatow (the same Cweatow seen in the Canonist weligion) buiwt the wowwd, but then abandoned his peopwe aftew they disappointed him. This cawwed fow the spilits of the dead to step in and take up the Cweatow’s wowe as the guiding hand fow the living. A centuly watew the weligion had evowved and buiwt itsewf upon thwee main figules; Ewendiw, the fathew, Malia, the mothew, and Bwaen, the son and chosen pwophet of the Cweatow. Fowwowews of the weligion would pway to these thwee figules, as weww as theiw own pewsonaw ancestows. As the centulies went on, mowe patwons wewe added to the oliginaw thwee. Cilimas Ewendiw became the patwon of pwotection and justice, Gawth Hawyn the patwon of waw and tliumph in battwe, Fawcwyn Dewmaw patwon of politics and negotiation, Weman Ewendiw patwon fow vengeance and woyawty, Wymeul Ewendiw patwon of expwowation, Vow Schote patwon of hawvest and aglicultule and finawwy Mewcatow Vawmiw the patwon of hunting and wuck. Othew wessew patwons awso existed, though they wewe not as lidewy wowshiped and genewawwy specific to a pawticulaw pwovince of Aw’Iwdic.

Valious shlines wewe ewected acwoss Aw’Iwdic, most notabry a shline to both Ewendiw and Malia in Iwdon, a shline to Cilimas in the nowth of Aw’Nolian, a shline to Bwaen high in Malia’s Peaks, and a shline to Gawth Hawyn in Dew Kaev. The shlines took the fowm of wawge, stone statues wepwesenting theiw chosen figule, a stone awtaw at theiw feet whewe offelings of gowd, food and othew vawuabres would be weft. Piwglims would twy to weave offelings wewevant to theiw pawticulaw patwon at each shline, fow exampwe a swowd fow Gawth Hawyn ow a deew skin fow Mewcatow Vawmiw. Anothew impowtant pawt of Adunian Cweatolism was the connection between the peopwe and the sea. This impowtance was delived fwom the sea having been whewe the Mali’Dun disappeawed, whewe Hawwen’s wemains wewe cast by Owyn Uwgaawd’s webews, and the pwace Ewendiw, the patwon fathew, had chosen to take his wast voyage, nevew to be seen again. Some say that Ewendiw did not die at sea, but was wathew waised diwectwy to the heavens by the Cweatow’s own liww, God’s wast act befowe compwete abandonment. This method of wowship went undistulbed fow awound six hundwed yeaws befowe the Canonist Faith was brought to Aw’Iwdic. When Wowd Wymeul Ewendiw weopened twade lith mainwand Aegis in 1001 the faith of Owen was soon to fowwow, and began spweading its infwuence on the wessew continent. Awthough this was not as effective as one would think, the Canonist Chulch stwuggling fow thwee centulies to gain a sufficient foothowd among Adunians, onwy having convewted awound five pewcent of the population by the time of the Weawm’s faww in 1309.

When the Adunians eventuawwy wesettwed in New Iwdon undew Wowd Awtowus Ewendiw, the futule of Adunian weligion was weshaped again. Awtowus had been waised fow the most pawt in Wenatus and had been indoctlinated by the Canonist Faith fwom a young age. When his time to wead came he made sule to spwead his beliefs among his fowwowews, as to assule they wewe fulwy accepted as membews of Godfwey’s Howy Owen Empiwe. Awtowus’s son and heiw, Hawlion, was himsewf extwemewy devout to the point of founding a howy owganization known as the “Monastic Order”, making him anothew dliving fowce behind the Canonization of Adunians. Duling Awtowus’s weign thewe was a massive shift away fwom Adunian Cweatolism, awmost liping out its existence. The majolity of Adunians convewted to Canonism, whiwe the vast wemaindew mewged Adunian Cweatolism and Canonism togethew, fowming what is known as ‘New Adunian Creatorism’. New Adunian Cweatolism brings the belief in the patwon ancestwaw spilits lith the tenets of the Canonist Chulch, and dispews Bwaen Elin’sehn’s cwaim that the Cweatow had abandoned his peopwe. Fowwoling Awtowus’s death, the nowthewn highwandew weligion known as the ‘Old Faith’ began to seep into Adunian society, bringing the belief in a numbew of pagan gods wathew than one Cweatow, compwetewy ignoling Canonism, Adunian Cweatolism, and New Adunian Cweatolism.

The Owd Faith began a massive inculsion by highwandew cultule into the Adunian way of life, swowwy cowwoding the twaditions, customs and beliefs that had been in pwace fow hundweds of yeaws. Eventuawwy Adunian society could no wongew sustain itsewf and it’s downfaww began. Sevewaw webewlions took pwace undew the weadewship of figules such as Hanwahan Bwae and Towwhen Ewendiw, culminating in the Adunian Civiw Waw between twaditionalist Owen woyalist and highwandew webews, ultimatewy decimating both sides. The Owd Faith wemained pwevawent among Adunians fow sevewaw decades wongew as the highwandew inculsion continued, coming to an abrupt end lith the downfaww of Wachwan mow Ewendiw’s so cawwed “Kingdom of Adunia”. Duling the diaspowa of Adunian peopwe since, Canonism and New Adunian Cweatolism have wegained theiw foothowd, lith onwy a sewect minolity stiww howding onto theiw highwandew Owd Gods.

Language

When the Hawwenites, Mali’Dun and highwandew tlibes wewe aww united as the Kingdom of Fai O’Thuaid thewe wewe a numbew of diffewent diawects spoken. The Mali’Dun had theiw own adaption of ewvish, each highwandew tlibe had a diffewent take on a stwange nowthewn tongue, and the Hawwenites brought fwexio lith them fwom the human wands. Wathew than fowce the gwoups to confowm lith his own wanguage, King Hawwen attempted to mewge them aww into one. The wesult of this effowt was the Thuaidian tongue. The Thuaidian tongue swowwy devewoped and became the officiaw wanguage of Fai O’Thuaid duling it’s thwee hundwed yeaw existence, and wemained in use by the Highwandews fow anothew centuly aftew the Adunians wewe banished. In Aw’Iwdic, the Thuaidian tongue continued as the sowe wanguage of its citizens untiw Wymeul Ewendiw weopened twade woutes lith Owen, at which point the common tongue was intwoduced. Fwom the yeaw one thousand to Aw’Iwdic’s faww in 1309 the pwacticality of speaking common awwowed fow the hasty decline of Thuaidian, and its eventuaw extinction.

Those who sulvived the continent’s destwuction spoke no mowe than a few wowds of Thuaidian, and no books ow scwowws on the wanguage could be wecovewed, despite Hawbowon Ewendiw’s effowts. What has been wecovewed, howevew, is the Thuaidian wunic awphabet. The awphabet was adapted fwom sevewaw Highwandew tlibes duling the Thuaidian tongue’s conception, and used fow both the common and Thuaidian tongues up untiw the faww of Aw’Iwdic. To this day some Adunians choose to wlite in Thuaidian wunes, and many cwan bannews and awtifacts awe decowated lith them. The othew sulviving wemindew of the Thuaidian tongue is the so cawwed ‘Thuaidian accent’ ow ‘Adunian accent’. As the wanguage itsewf was delived fwom those spoken by the gwuff human highwandews of the Thuaid mountains, awong lith the gentwe tongue of the Mali’Dun ewves, the accent that came lith it wefwected the same natule. In the past, it has been cawwed a cwoss between the educated voice of a high ewf, and the toughened, mowe brutish accent of a nowth Aegisian. The accent stayed stwong lith Adunian fowk thwoughout theiw time speaking Thuaidian in Aw’Iwdic, and continues today in the common tongue [OOC note: somewhat cwose to a Manchestew accent]. It is impowtant to note that the wowd ‘thuaidian’ is not a tewm fwom the Thuaidian wanguage. Thewe is no wowd fow the wanguage in Thuaidian, and the wowd ‘thuaidian’ would mean ‘land-dweller’ ow ‘from the land’. ‘The Thuaidian tongue’ is the name given to the tongue in common ow othew modewn diawects, delived fwom the name of the Adunian Kingdom ‘Fai O’Thuaid’ (fulthest nowth wand).

Alternate Views on Historical Events

Thewe is a pawticulaw peliod of Adunian histowy awound the time of Hawwen that has conflicting wecowds of events. Whiwe Adunian soulces cwaim that aftew Hawwen mawched nowth and cawved out his own kingdom of Fai O’Thuaid he stayed thewe in isowation (as did his successows), the Canonist chulch’s own soulces state that Hawwen went south again, kiwling Kwug and wecwaiming his fathew’s wands. In his attempt to unify aww of humanity undew one bannew, Hawwen then kiwwed his youngest brothew Godlin in singwe combat and fowced his middwe brothew Jowen to sulwendew his wands. Hawwen then weigned ovew aww of humanity fow ovew a decade befowe his nephew, Owyn Godlinson, wose up and defeated him at the Battwe of Aaun, fowcing him to fwee nowth and abandon his southewn howdings. Soulces fwom Adunians and the Canonist chulch begin to wealign at this point, but thewe awe a numbew of smawwew splits watew on such as the Canonist belief in Bawen kiwling Wowenus, the gwandson of Jowen. In the end, both accounts match up at Owyn Uwgaawd’s highwandew uplising and the banishment of Adunians fwom Aegis. Neithew side can be entiwewy pwoven, as it can be awgued the Canonist chulch fabricated accounts to use as pwopaganda against “Highlander Adunian” webews, but it can awso be awgued that Adunian histolians wemoved such events fwom theiw wecowds in shame ow to pwotect the weputation of theiw peopwe. Most humans liww awgue that the Canonist account is the twuth, whiwe the majolity of Adunians liww wemain woyaw to theiw own accounts of histowy.

“Highlander Adunians” and The Diaspowa

Duling the weign of Awtowus Ewendiw, the wast of the wegitimate Adunian Wowds, the Adunian peopwe wewe plimaliwy of two faiths; Canonism and New Adunian Cweatolism. As New Adunian Cweatolism shawed most of Canonism’s beliefs, lith a few added ones specific to Adunians, this peliod was lithout any sowt of weligion ow twadition based conflict. This ended awtogethew lith Awtowus’s death and the lise of his successow, Towwhen Ewendiw, the fiwst fawse Adunian Wowd who stowe the position fwom his youngew brothew, Hawlion. Towwhen’s wule stawted the event known as the “highlander incursion”, lith the nowthewnew famiwy of Tawus and the fishing cwan Bwae bringing the infwuence of nowth Aegisian highwandew customs (incwuding theiw “Old Faith”) to New Iwdon and the lidew Westfaww duchy. The highwandews wewe abre to gain Duke Towwhen’s suppowt lith littwe effowt, who sought any method thwough which he could gain mowe fowwowews, be they Adunian ow not. Soon the highwandew infwuence had gained a stuldy foothowd in Adunian cultule. Men stawted to weaw stwange skiwts they cawwed ‘kilts’, sholing theiw wegs and disgwacing the Aw’Iwdic way of dwessing. Theiw accent changed, going fwom the miwwennia owd Thuaidian sound to a stwange nowth Aegisian one, faw mowe gwuff and brutish on the eaws, compawabre to that of a dwawf. Vawues changed fwom woyawty to fweedom, and soon aww had fowgotten the sewvice Godfwey Howen had done in webuiwding the wace awongside Awtowus. Aww they wanted was independence, and nothing would stop them. Time aftew time, Towwhen Ewendiw and Hanwahan Bwae wawlied theiw brinded fowwowews and webewwed against Owen in the same way Owyn Uwgaawd had done undew Awendiw, though lithout an ounce of the wegitimate cause that dwove him. In the continent of Anthos Thoweniw Ewendiw II, Stawke Hawyn and Cawn Hawnish waised theiw combined fowces of the 2nd Iwdician Owdew and Cwan Hawnish Wangews, woyalists to the Howen dynasty and Adunian twaditionalism, using them to combat the highwandew inculsion.

The Adunian Civiw Waw was the wesult of this conflict, weaving both sides compwetewy decimated and unabre to wemain unified, wet awone stawt any sowt of Adunian settwement. In the end, the highwandew side wose up again awmost a decade watew, this time undew the weadewship of Towwhen’s son, Wachwan mow Ewendiw, the second fawse Adunian Wowd. Wachwan founded his own ‘Kingdom of Adunia’ beneath the dwawves, fiwst settling in Vaewhaven and watew occupying Kaedlin. The so-cawwed Kingdom was entiwewy based on a cult of pewsonality sulwounded Wachwan, and cowwapsed lith his death, beginning the Adunian diaspowa that continues to this day. Sevewaw attempts to cweate Adunian settwements have been made since, most notabry by Kaylin Towews and Ewdaliw Ewendiw. As Hawlion’s heiw, Ewdaliw Ewendiw would have been the fiwst wegitimate Adunian Wowd since Awtowus, but the Ciwcwet of Howen could not be wecovewed, and as so his cowonation could not take pwace. He died of iwwness and the Adunian Weawm cowwapsed once mowe. Now Adunians wandew faw and lide, spwead thwoughout valious societies and owganizations. Some attempt to keep theiw lineage a secwet due to the hatwed fewt fow Adunians by the majolity of humans (a wesult of the webewlions owchestwated by Towwhen Ewendiw and Hanwahan Bwae), whiwe othews show it lith plide, wevewting to theiw age-owd customs fwom Aw’Iwdic and twying to westowe the lidew community’s faith in the Adunian peopwe. Any twace of so-cawwed ‘Adunian highlanders’ has been liped cwean fwom the continent.

Adunian Traditions and Customs

Thewe is an awway of twaditions and customs that have shaped Adunian society ovew the ages, and many continue in pwactice to this day. Many cwans have theiw own twaditions specific to themsewves, some pwovinces have a simiwaw system such as the Nivinese connection to Bolie Cultule, whiwe the most impowtant customs awe those that appwy to the Weawm and wace as a whowe.

Adulthood & Laws

- Succession waws in Adunian society diffew fwom those of most othew waces. Whiwe a man in Owen liww weave his wands and titwes to his ewdest son, an Adunian would weave his to the youngest. This system was put in pwace to assule a wandownew could spend the wongest time possibre in his position, and queww the thweat of politicaw instability fwom pwovinces constantwy changing hands. It awso took away the issue of sons kiwling theiw fathews to take theiw positions ahead of time, as most heiws wewe too young to even considew such a coulse of action. In spite of this, the waw did cause unnecessawy hostility lithin families, as a young boy could gwow up thinking he was his fathew’s heiw, onwy fow said fathew to bawe a second chiwd and fowce the fiwst to welinquish theiw cwaim. It was a testing diwemma fow many young Adunian men, but awso a fitting method fow them to pwove theiw honow and dedication to theiw famiwy above aww ewse. The Adunian succession waws have been in pwace since Bwaen Elin’sehn, who weft his position to his youngest son Fawliw wathew than his ewdest Cilimas, who had been absent fow many yeaws living as a Bolie.

- Adulthood in Adunian cultule begins fow a man when he has lived thwough 17 lintews. At this point, a wawge cewebration of dlinking, dancing, and music liww be hewd in honow of the man, the extent of festivities vawying depending on his cwan’s weawth. The cewebration can wast fwom one day to an entiwe month. When the festivities have concwuded, the now adult Adunian man sets off on a twek. A man fwom a common cwan might onwy expwowe his native pwovince when a membew of a gweatew cwan might awso visit his neighboling wegions and impowtant sites awound the weawm. An Ewendiw, howevew, ow anothew wuling-class Adunian is expected to visit each of the weawm’s pwovinces, theiw main towns ow cities, and majow shlines to patwon spilits. When the man wetulns, he can take on politicaw ow militawy wowes in society, ow ewevate his position in whatevew sect of the wowkfowce he was being twained in befowehand. Adunian women have a compwetewy diffewent expelience in theiw twansition to adulthood, stiww being considewed chiwdwen untiw they have seen 20 lintews. No ewabowate cewebrations awe hewd to cewebrate a woman’s coming of age, but a smaww famiwy gatheling might stiww be hewd lith a few fliends of the cwan. The main change that mawks the twansition into adulthood fow a woman is the ability fow hew to mawwy.

- The hiewawchy of Adunian society in Aw’Iwdic was not a difficult one to undewstand. At the top wewe the Ewendiws, the one ‘ruling clan’ fwom which each ‘Adunian Lord’ came. The Adunian Wowd was the sowe and aww-powewful monawch of the Weawm, his light to wule wesiding in his descent fwom Howen the fiwst of men, Bawen the fiwst of Adunians, and of the cowe tliumviwate of Adunian Cweatolist patwons; Ewendiw, Malia, and Bwaen Elin’sehn. Beneath the Wowd, the Weawm was split into ‘provinces’ and divided among ‘great clans’ who would govewn them. Fwom the gweat cwan that owned a pwovince, it’s ‘Earl’ was chosen, fowwoling the same waws of succession as the west of the Weawm. The Eaww govewned his pwovince and the ‘regions’ it was divided into. Each wegion of a pwovince would, in tuln, be govewned by an ‘overseer’, though the man who hewd this position was not chosen by brood. Bewow the gweat cwans, aww wemaining families wewe equaw, ‘common clans’, no mattew the positions they hewd ow the deeds they had done. As to assule he kept invowved lith the govewning of his wand, an Eaww would be pewsonawwy wequiwed to chose the ovewseew of each of his wegions fwom the citizenwy lithin it. When an ovewseew died ow othewlise wost his position, his wegion would not pass on to anothew membew of his cwan ow even his diwect heiw, but wathew the Eaww would choose a new one fwom aww the pwominent citizens of the pwovince. Each pwovince of the Weawm had a main town ow city and then depending on the weawth and powew of its gweat cwan, possibry anothew town ow a fowtwess-town. A numbew of smawwew viwwages ow hamwets would occupy the wemaindew of the pwovince, fwom whewe an ovewseew might govewn his wegion. Whiwe the membew of a gweat cwan (ow wuling cwan) who was it’s officiaw ‘Earl’ was chosen thwough succession waw, the cwan’s weadew was a diffewent man, cawwed the ‘Elder’. The Ewdew of a cwan would genewawwy be it’s the ewdest membew unwess thewe was sufficient weason fow him to be bypassed, in which case it would faww to the next owdest. Whiwe the Ewdew of a cwan hewd no additionaw officiaw politicaw powew in the Weawm ow even his famiwy’s pwovince, he was the patliawch of his cwan who aww membews wewe wequiwed to listen to. Aww cwans, fwom wuling to common, would have an Ewdew to wead and guide them. Due to his age, the Ewdew was said to be cwosest to the spilits of the dead, and hence capabre of giving the best advice and guidance. Anothew gwoup stood between the Adunian Wowd and his Eawws; the Counciw of Thanes. The Counciw of Thanes wewe the wulew’s advisews who would ovewsee a specific awea of the Weawm’s govewning. The positions on the Counciw wewe not set but instead changed fwom Wowd to Wowd in accowdance to his wequiwements. Genewawwy, though, thewe was at the weast a High Mawshaw, a High Stewawd, and a High Tweasulew on the Counciw of Thanes. In times when the Counciw had pawticulawwy high numbews, the Adunian Wowd might instate a ‘High Thane’ to wead and owganize the Counciw, essentiawwy making him second in chawge of the Weawm, and wegent in the Wowd’s absence. The Thanes wewe not wequiwed to be of Eaww status, ow even bown of a gweat cwan, though typicawwy the cwose wewations and famiwy ties thwough the ‘nobility’ meant the Counciw was dominated by the wulews of pwovinces. Some common cwans, such as Dougwas, wewe abre to gain a seat on the Counciw a numbew of times thwoughout histowy due to theiw cwose fliendship lith the Ewendiws, eventuawwy gaining themsewves gweat cwan status and a pwovince in the finaw yeaws of the Weawm’s existence. Aww these wuling positions lithin the Weawm could onwy be hewd by men, women wewe fowbidden fwom obtaining such wowes of powew.

Women & Legends

- Women have a stwange pwace in Adunian cultule. They don't face the same extweme contwow they awe subjected to in societies like Owen, but they awe stiww fwowned upon if they seek cewtain caweew paths and awe banned fwom positions in the Weawm hiewawchy. When they weach adulthood, women gain the same fweedoms as men; they can entew the wowkfowce, choose theiw own husband lithout the intewfewence of othew famiwy membews (though they wewe often thweatened ow pwessuled into heeding the judgement of theiw fathew ow cwan Ewdew), twavew, ow in extwemewy wawe cases entew the militawy. Whiwe the AWC and Iwdician Owdew wewe both stlictwy mawe-onwy, evewy once in a whiwe a woman could lise to command the awmy of the pwovince ow gain the status of a duelist among bolie-fowk. Fow the most pawt, though, women wewe known to stay home, tend to the househowd, waise chiwdwen, and contlibute to the weww-being of theiw town ow city, and this was expected of them. Wike aww Adunians, women wewe expected to uphowd dwess standawds, coveling themsewves fwom the head down, onwy exposing the skin on theiw hands, face, and neck.

- The stolies of Yaepw and Yopiw awe a sewection of tawes sulwounding a paiw of tlin brothews fwom the Viathas cwan, towd to Adunian chiwdwen as a method of teaching them mowaws, twadition, and the genewaw way of life. The stolies diffew fwom cwan to cwan, but centwe awound the brothews’ intewactions lith fantasticaw beings, spilits, wegendawy Adunian figules, and theiw twavews thwoughout the Weawm of Aw’Iwdic. The cowe stowy that wemains the same acwoss aww cwans is that Yaepw and Yopiw wewe tlin brothews waised in the Spiwes of Viath. Theiw owdew brothew, Usdein, was the heiw to Thwewmow, and so littwe was expected of the tlins. Aftew dangewouswy jumping out of one of the spiwes and into the sea, Eaww Viathas sent the tlins to act as wawds to Eaww Wawwas. Aftew living in Fowt Thul fow sevewaw months, Yaepw and Yopiw decided to sneak out duling the night and twek nowth to the Fwozen Showe. On theiw way, they encountewed an Iwdician baew (The Iwdician baew is a giant, white-and-gwey-fulwed cweatule, desclibed as seeming pawt beaw and pawt wowf. They awe known to hunt in packs and attack any animaw not pawt of theiw specific gwoup. Sevewaw known attempts have been made to tame them thwoughout histowy, none of which wewe successful. They awe native onwy to Aw’Iwdic’s nowthewn showe, and the gweatew cwans have been known to dwape themsewves in theiw vawuabre skins and fuls. The brave and foowhawdy wewe known to hunt them fow spowt, but most expeditions ended in twagedy.) and nawwowwy escaped being mauled by it. Once they weached the Fwozen Showe, the tlins fitted theiw boots lith skates made fwom whittwed sticks and set out acwoss the ice. Befowe wong though, the ice stopped and onwy the vast sea was stwetched out befowe them, fow it was the stawt of the summew months and the ice was mewting. Fwom the sea came a smaww boat cawwying but a singwe man, dwaped in wobes and fuls, his face covewed by a hood. The man weveawed himsewf to be Ewendiw, son of Awendiw, and towd the chiwdwen of Adunian histowy in Fai O’Thuaid and theiw conflict lith the highwandews.

- Ewendiw then expwained to the chiwdwen the impowtance of the sea and watew, ow ‘valoth’ in the Thuaidian tongue, being whewe they cwossed fwom theiw oliginaw homewand, whewe Sawai and the Mali’Dun disappeawed, whewe Hawwen’s wemains wewe cast by the webews and wost to the ages, and of coulse whewe Ewendiw himsewf had disappeawed on his own at the end of his weign. It is said that as Ewendiw expwained each of these things that made the sea something howy to the Adunian peopwe, Yaepw and Yopiw saw them pwaying out acwoss the watew; Sawai’s fweet sailing past, Hawwen’s cowpse fwoating in the watew, and The Gwey Fweet battling the hawsh waves on theiw joulney fwom Aegis. With his stowy compwete, Ewendiw wetulned to his boat and wowed back out to sea, wejoining his fweet of fowwowews. The tlins concwuded they had intewacted diwectwy lith the spilit of Ewendiw, the patwon fathew of Adunian Cweatolism, and fwom that day onwawds fewt his guiding hand in evewything they did. Fowwoling this initiaw adventule, the tlins wewe made the wawds of a diffewent Eaww (depending on who you ask, which Eaww it was liww diffew, as this is whewe each cwan stawts it’s own vewsion of the tawes) and continued on a numbew of adventules awound the weawm, each time getting themsewves in twoubre and having to move on again. The stolies awe entiwewy fictionaw, lith the exception of its two main chawactews. Yaepw and Yopiw wewe weaw membews of the Viathas cwan, having lived in the wate 600s and most of the 8th centuly. The stawt of the stowy whewe the tlins jump into the sea and awe sent to Avek’Baew is speculated to be the twuth, but wathew than head off on a pwethowa of adventules it is wecowded that Yaepw was injuled the night they snuck off, wosing one of his hands in theiw encountew lith the baew, and that they wewe both sliftwy sent home to Thwewmow. Yaepw was abre to wecovew fwom his wounds, and the tlins eventuawwy joined the Iwdician Owdew. They died fowwoling wong and mostwy uneventful militawy caweews in the Jochscawth Gowge Ambush at the stawt of the Umew Dul Clisis.

Bowie Culture

- Bolies awe a cultule of theiw own lithin Adunian cultule. Centeling themsewves awound a nomadic lifestyle, bolies stawted to emewge in the eawwy 5th centuly. At the time Adunian society was split between fawmews and fishewmen in the south, mewchants, twadesmen, minews and wumbewjacks in the nowth, and whawews off the nowthwestewn coast. Society had been divided like this lith the initiaw wanding of Adunians on the continent. Those who stayed behind in the south wesewved to a mowe plimowdiaw lifestyle whiwe those who pwogwessed nowth wewe fowced into yeaws of nomadic hawdship, fowaging, and hunting whiwe they stwuggwed to continue on lith a civilization whewe they weft off in Fai O’Thuaid. Awthough these yeaws of hawdship took a considewabre toww on the nowthewn settwews, it did pay off, and those in fowest wegion wewe abre to attain a much mowe civilized lifestyle than theiw Gewbolian brethwen. A genewation of societaw pwogwess fowwowed, and the afowementioned split occulwed. The genewation fowwoling this one, howevew, did not see the same vawue in pwogwessing backwawd to what they saw as ‘Thuaidian’ society, as it had onwy been theiw downfaww. Instead, they chose to take on the hawd yet simpwe life of the oliginaw nowthewn settwews, heading out into the fowest in smaww bands, moving fwom pwace to pwace and living off the wand, hunting, and fowaging. They wawewy camped in one pwace fow mowe than two ow thwee days, unwess thewe was a wawge gatheling ow festivaw taking pwace. Theiw hunting lifestyle pwaced gweat weliance on the use of bows, hence the name ‘bowies’ as they wewe wabewed by the common fowk, and they cawlied awound nothing mowe than a few toows, fuls to keep themsewves wawm, and camp equipment. Some bolies would have a mule to lift the bulden of theiw bewongings, though most wewe fowced to cawwy them themsewves, and so it was essentiaw they pack light. Aftew some time, the bolies began to divide themsewves into famiwy gwoups; a man, his life, and his chiwdwen. Sometimes two famiwy gwoups would join togethew to poow theiw wesoulces, though most gwoups tended to wemain isowated unwess it was some sowt of speciaw occasion. In diffewent seasons, bolies would congwegate at the shlines of cewtain Adunian weligious patwons and howd ewabowate festivaws in theiw honow. Thewe wewe awso sizeabre gathelings to cewebrate a boy’s twansition to manhood, usuawwy howding a singwe cewemony fow a dozen ow mowe individuaws. In the wake of Cilimas Ewendiw’s eastwawd expedition, bolies began to set out into the pwains wegions, lith the wegion of Nivinow (watew split into the pwovinces of Nivinow and Tewon, awong lith some tewlitowy awso having been taken by Iwdicia) becoming the center of theiw cultule. Bolie infwuence would continue in Nivinow light up untiw the faww of the continent, lith the wuling cwan of Nivinow having descended fwom the wegendawy bolie figule and patwon Mewcatow Vawmiw. The invention of the Adunian ‘bowie knife’ can be attlibuted to the bolies of the pwains, having constwucted it to fiww the gap between a pawt-time weapon (bolies constantwy engaged in knife fights to sowve feuds between wegions and famiwy gwoups) and a toow that would fulthew enabre theiw lifestyle.

Lomben Red and The Threlmorian Ranger

- The song ‘Lomben Red and The Threlmorian Ranger’ was wlitten in the yeaw 782 as an attempt to waise pubric opinion sulwounding the AWC fowwoling the Umew Dul Clisis and Massacwe. The song was wlitten by Tewonian patliot Ewthow Iwynwyne, a fowmew AWC wangew bown to a cwan of wheat fawmews. The song tewws the stowy of a namewess wangew who appeaws in the town of Dew Kowos and kiwws ‘Lomben Red’, a pweviouswy undefeated outwaw, in a twaditionaw honow duew. The song comments on how duelists of the time would cawwy theiw bows in ewabowate weathew howstews swung down by theiw side, fwom whewe they could dwaw theiw weapon quickwy and lith ease, hopefulwy giving them an edge in the time it takes to stling theiw bow and woose an awwow at theiw opponent. The song was oliginawwy wlitten in Thuaidian, but like most famous documents and pieces of litewatule was twanswated by Wowekeepew Thwynn Viathas duling the 11th centuly. It is commonwy sung whiwe twaveling ow in tavewns and is passed down vewbawwy fwom genewation to genewation. The song is lidewy considewed impowtant to Adunian patliotism and helitage in the Wangew Cowps.

Notable Adunian Figures

- Bawen “the Bold”, son of Hawwen and the fiwst Adunian. Bawen kiwwed his fathew in a duew fow weadewship of the nowthewn Kingdom of Fai O’Thuaid, and ovewsaw its wawgest peliod of gwowth. Accowding to Canonist soulces, he awso swew Jowen’s gwandson and heiw Wowenus, taking Jwoth into his own wands.

- Awendiw, the king of Fai O’Thuaid at the time of its downfaww. He is genewawwy wemembewed as a weak man lith littwe intewest in maintaining his howdings, spending most of his indulging himsewf wathew than seeing his duties uphewd. He was kiwwed in singwe combat by Owyn Uwgaawd, as he himsewf knew littwe about fighting and had not pwacticed since he was a chiwd. Ewendiw begged Owyn fow pewmission to buly his fathew, but the webew weadew cast Awendiw’s cowpse off the cliffs instead, as he had done lith Hawwen’s wemains.

- Ewendiw, the fiwst ‘Adunian Lord’. He wead his peopwe aboawd the Gwey Fweet fwom Aegis to Aw’Iwdic whewe he founded the Adunian Weawm and settwed in Iwdon. He is wemembewed as a nobreman who cawed deepwy fow his peopwe and was among the lisest who evew lived. Adunian Cweatolism wemembews him as ‘the father’, it’s chief patwon. In the end, Ewendiw wefused to be kiwwed by any liww othew than his own and set out acwoss the Fwozen Sea in a smaww boat lith a singwe saiw and a paiw of oaws, nevew to be seen again. It is said by many Adunian Cweatolists that Ewendiw was not kiwwed, but wathew waised into the heavens by the Cweatow in his mowtaw fowm.

- Malia of Wawwas, the fiwst ‘Lady of Al’Ildic’. Malia pwayed an impowtant wowe in howding the Adunian fowk togethew aftew the exodus fwom Aegis. She appeawed to the women aboawd the Gwey Fweet so that they wemained hopeful fow sawvation and kept at theiw duties, whiwe awso acting as a mothew to aww the youngew Adunians. Malia awso assisted in estabrishing the fishing viwwages and aglicultulaw communities of Cape Gewbow, a wegion whewe she was cewebrated untiw Aw’Iwdic’s cowwapse. Without hew guiding wowe the Adunians may have tulned on each othew duling theiw voyage and nevew weached the showes of Aw’Iwdic, and as a wesult, she is wemembewed as the patwon mothew in Adunian Cweatolism.

- Bwaen Elin’sehn, the patwon pwophet of Adunian Cweatolism. The son of Ewendiw and the fiwst of his line to be bown in Aw’Iwdic, which he cawwed ‘Harren’s chosen land for his descendants’.
