Richard I Henry (Raev: Rickard Heinrik), monikered the Black and born Vladrick Hieromar, was a Prince of House Barbanov-Alimar, and therefore a Prince of Haense. He was renowned for his brutish nature, and prowess in swordsmanship. He was known for his sharp wit and tongue, presumably a quirk he inherited from his late mother, the Grand Princess Aleksandra. Furthermore, he was greatly renowned as the ‘Black Prince’ of Rubern, a Sovereign title which he ascended to in 1724.

Upbringing
Vladrick was born on the 7th of the Deep Cold, 1707, to Josef I Barbanov and Aleksandra I Ruthern. He would be the second son sired by the pair. Of Raevir descent, the young Princeling would quantify under the typical upbringing that would be unorthodox for a Prince reigning from the rustic northern regions of the continent. His upbringing would be heavily influenced by the eccentricities of the Grand Prince and Princess, with their attention directly placed on the heir, Kazimar, Red Prince of Muldav. It is heavily rumored that upon the boy's sixth name day, he was urged to consume a tankard-full of ale with intentions to harden him.
As his upbringing continued, it became apparent that Vladrick had his mind tuned towards militarism and martial prowess. Therefore, he pursued a life of a general rather than a statesman and was quickly thrust into rigorous and intensive training away from the capital; Such was a demand covertly issued by his mother, one that the Prince would never be privy to, as to safeguard the child during the War of Two Emperors which began when he was eight.
War of Two Emperors: The Occupation of Rubern
The War of Two Emperors began when Vladrick was at the meager age of eight and ended soon after he had turned fifteen. For the majority of the conflict, Vladrick kept his distance from the Royal Capital of Reza, and thus away from the conflict, to pursue punctilious training from his Uncle, Ewan of Vallberg, at the behest of the Haeseni Marshals. However, upon the collapse of the Marnan side of the war, Vladrick was called back to his native land to prepare for a grueling siege that many thought would occur.
Although the siege never came, for a peace deal was decreed which subverted the Kingdom beneath the Pertinax regime once more, Vladrick involved himself in the conflict briefly for his fellow Haeseni. It was noted however that Vladrick had a large amount of respect held for the Pertinaxi simply due to their unnatural prowess in combat and that he even sought further training underneath a prominent Pertinaxi Dynast, the Prince Martinus Horen of Renatus.
However, the most fruitful consequence of Vladrick's position within the War of Two Emperors would be during the post-war period in which the lands formerly known as Leuven had been ravaged and surrendered to the Crown of Renatus-Marna. The lush and viridescent land subsequently found its way into the hands of Vladrick, presumably to reward the Barbanov for his aid; the lands were settled and thus was created the Province of Rubern, named after the River that sprawled across its doorstep.
