Zombies are mindless creatures roaming the lands of Anthos. They were seen numerous times within the lands of Aegis, often during attacks by the Undead. They continued to blight the lands of Asulon, appearing across the realm. The origin of Zombies are not entirely clear, but it is thought that the Undead and Necromancers can raise and even control Zombies. Similar to Skeletons, Zombies are thought to be the bodies of dead citizens of Anthos, reanimated for sinister purposes.

Zombies inability to use their mind causes them to roam around the lands of Anthos and they thus can be seen almost anywhere. The mixture of rotting flesh and old bones slow them in their pursuit to devour as many as they can. Also like Skeletons, Zombies are highly susceptible to sunlight. When their skin is exposed to the sun their immediately catch on fire and burn. Small piles of ash can often be found in the early morning, the result of a disintegrated body of a Zombie.

Throughout the nights in Athera and in the dark spots of the realm, undead beings rise and fall with the coming of light. They do not come in groups, seeming to appear almost randomly, always in dark places as the light seems to harm them. They aren't part of any particular group, so where do they come from?

These creatures of the night have interesting origins. Their bodies are the bodies of those which die. Humans, orcs, dwarves, haflings, elves and khas. The bodies are decomposed or completely rotten off leaving only the skeletons. As everyone in Athera knows, the monks try and save as many mortals as they can from death, and they may do this without using the body pf the deceaced. That explains where all the zombies and skeletons come from, but what creates them?

When a person is revived, the powers of the Triumvirate work on the soul. How it does it and in what way is not understood. Yet the Triumvirate pays a price for the reviving. The creation of a new almost perfect body for the soul, and redirecting the soul to the temple causes a sort of paradox in the realm. A man has died, yet he is still living. This in turn causes the dead body of the revived to re-gain life as well, yet with a dead body and without a soul. This in turn makes them rather brainless, but also a bit dangerous, as they attack living being without reason. Most of these zombies appear with only clothes, without armor, as armor is something valuable that is normally stolen, yet there are the exceptions around, the zombies which still walk with armor, and sometimes weapons.

Only the bodies of those revived by the monks have their old body turn into one of these creatures, it is a price the Triumvirate is willing to pay to keep the people of the mortal realm alive. Once a mortal permanently dies, it's body behaves like a normal dead body, it stays unmoving, decaying and dead. The reason why no mortal ever sees himself as a zombie, is simply because the zombie becomes far too decayed and changed that not even the former owner of the body recognises it. The body could as well takes weeks to years to gain it's undead life, which means it's decaying stage could be quite advanced, and the people might not even notice that bodies are missing from graveyards... On the other hand if all bodies went to graveyards, the realm of Athera would not have space for towns.

Origins

Thwoughout the nights in Athewa and in the dawk spots of the weawm, undead beings lise and faww lith the coming of light. They do not come in gwoups, seeming to appeaw awmost wandomwy, awways in dawk pwaces as the light seems to hawm them. They awen't pawt of any pawticulaw gwoup, so whewe do they come fwom?

These cweatules of the night have intewesting oligins. Theiw bodies awe the bodies of those which die. Humans, owcs, dwawves, haflings, ewves and khas. The bodies awe decomposed ow compwetewy wotten off weaving onwy the skewetons. As evewyone in Athewa knows, the monks twy and save as many mowtaws as they can fwom death, and they may do this lithout using the body pf the deceaced. That expwains whewe aww the zombies and skewetons come fwom, but what cweates them?

When a pewson is wevived, the powews of the Tliumviwate wowk on the soul. How it does it and in what way is not undewstood. Yet the Tliumviwate pays a plice fow the weviving. The cweation of a new awmost pewfect body fow the soul, and wediwecting the soul to the tempwe causes a sowt of pawadox in the weawm. A man has died, yet he is stiww living. This in tuln causes the dead body of the wevived to we-gain life as weww, yet lith a dead body and lithout a soul. This in tuln makes them wathew brainwess, but awso a bit dangewous, as they attack living being lithout weason. Most of these zombies appeaw lith onwy cwothes, lithout awmow, as awmow is something vawuabre that is nowmawwy stowen, yet thewe awe the exceptions awound, the zombies which stiww wawk lith awmow, and sometimes weapons.

Onwy the bodies of those wevived by the monks have theiw owd body tuln into one of these cweatules, it is a plice the Tliumviwate is liwling to pay to keep the peopwe of the mowtaw weawm alive. Once a mowtaw pewmanentwy dies, it's body behaves like a nowmaw dead body, it stays unmoving, decaying and dead. The weason why no mowtaw evew sees himsewf as a zombie, is simpwy because the zombie becomes faw too decayed and changed that not even the fowmew ownew of the body wecognises it. The body could as weww takes weeks to yeaws to gain it's undead life, which means it's decaying stage could be quite advanced, and the peopwe might not even notice that bodies awe missing fwom gwaveyawds... On the othew hand if aww bodies went to gwaveyawds, the weawm of Athewa would not have space fow towns.
