Long ago in the realm of Aegis during times of antiquity, when the world was still young and the voyage to Vailor had yet to take place, it is said there were men of the Gold Cloaks sworn to the hunting of rogue Dragonkin. In this far sprung time not much is chronicled as to who these men and women were aside from their identity -- the Nephilim, the Knights clad in the garb of their sovereign lord, Xan. Bound to their deific tenets they sought out the fabled dragon Môrdring to put him to the sword only to fail in their endeavor; the ashen-willed servants of the malignant dragon, twisted and deformed set them aflame with their crude magicks. It is said their souls now reside in Xan’s realm, awaiting a time to which they shall be permitted to hunt down the foes of their savant Aengul once again, to bring about order in the mortal plane.

The Nephilim would be viewed positively as the godly aids of mankind serving the Aengul Xan. Their motives are unclear, but they are thought to have been some sort of unpowered predecessor to the Brotherhood of the Golden Lion, ancient Orenian Knights sworn both to their kingdom and the Creator’s servants.

In reality the Nephilim were servants not of Xan but of the Daemon Alistaer (Tayl), advertently sent to steal the Radiant Shard at his behest for its knowledge and all the secrets it contained within. With zealous appetite the Daemonsworn assailed Môrdring, only to be attacked by his Order of Greyscale and slain. Knight Varn the Silent and his compatriots Trost the Solemn, Geid the Wayfarer, Reld the Base, and last but not least Knal the Stern arose once again as darkly-clad eidolons of the Drakaar, birthed from his dark sorcery. But one escaped this fate, Geid the Wayfarer fled and died in the cold peaks, only to arise once more with the aid Alistaer as the renowned Darkwraith Kaer’gi, forbearer of the Covenant of the Forlorn Lord.

The legend will be proliferated in tomes and the truth revealed by Xionists to those who ask. The Knights are now Darkstalkers directly empowered by the Drakaar Môrdring and bound eternally to his service for their transgressions. The tale could also possibly be recounted by the Drakaar to those who visit his dwelling.
