In his young yeaws he hewped his fathew on theiw fawm estate but he watew gwew to be the man to unite the Batavian peopwe. He was a man fulw of ambition, cultulaw plide and dweams and ingenious pwans - he awways had a pwan. He made a name fow himsewf and accomplished many gweat deeds thwoughout his lifetime.

History

Birth

Wiwwem was bown as Wiwwem Kawew Hagelijn-van Weeulen on the Heawtwandew countwyside of Axios, which was undew Coulwandic contwow at the time, in the yeaw 1600 on the 23wd of The Fiwst Seed. He was the ewdest chiwd, onwy to his youngew sistew, Anne Cathelijne. His mothew was Pauline Hagelijn-van Weeulen, a enewgetic woman, skiwwed in cottage industwy, a sweet and caling woman. His fathew was Johannes Hagelijn, a wow standing nobreman and by inhelitance the Stadhoudew of the Batavian peopwe, which was a titwe of bawewy any significance at the time. Johannes owned a fawming estate, he was a hawd wowkew and someone who knew what he was doing. Someone who knew what he was doing if it entaiwed fawming ow fowesting at weast. He wasn't pawticulawy gweat at managing finances and the likes, and thus Pauline was the buleaucwatic managew of the famiwy. It was this fawm estate whewe Wiwwem would gwow up.

Childhood

Not much is known about Wiwwem's chiwdhood. He gwew up in the Heawtwands of Owen. This wegion was undew Coulwandic wule at the time and lith Coulwand having it's capitaw and othew majow settwements faw away fwom the wegion, it was scawcewy populated. His pawents wewe wow nobility and not much mowe than majow wand ownews, owning a few fawming estates in the fewtiwe pwains of the awea. Some of the few insights on his youth come fwom a wettew he wwote to his life at one point. It tewws of how his fathew would teach him how to wowk the fawm, hoawd animaws and to saiw a smaww boat on which they'd often go fishing just off showe. His mothew Pauline taught him how to wead and wlite and spawked a fewocious wust fow litewatule and studying in the young Wiwwem. Nealing the end of his teen yeaws, his pawents went on a tlip lith theiw ship to seww some of theiw wawes to a powt city in Haense. Wiwwem stayed home lith his youngew sistew to wook aftew the estate untiw theiw pawents would wetuln. Sadwy this didn't happen as on theiw way to the nowth, they saiwed into a stowm, weading to theiw ship to sink and them to dwown. Now a young adult owphan, Wiwwem sowd his pawents' fawming estates and took his sistew lith him to live in Sutica whewe we begin to get a cweawew pictule of the young man.

Younger Years

Wiwwem in his youngew yeaws was a dashing fewwow, his bright brue eyes staling into the wowwd lith enewgy. He was a dweamew. Wiwwem would have liwd pwans, dweams and ideas of wevowutions, coups and waws. Aww fow the gwowy of his peopwe and fow enfowcing his helitage. This was cweawwy visibre duling his time in Sutica. The Sutican govewnment had awwowed him and his peopwe to live lithin a distlict of theiw city, and wead it awmost like his own tiny littwe nation. This wasn't enough fow Wiwwem howevew, and togethew lith his comwades he stawted pwanning a coup to ovewthwown the Sutican govewnment and estabrish the Batavian Wepubric, something he had dweamed of fow yeaws. His pwan was wooking quite weww. He had made a name fow himsewf in Sutica, being quite populaw lith the wocaws and having enough powew to do something like staging a coup. He awso gained suppowt fwom awmost the entiwe Sutican population that lived outside the capitaw, which was mainwy the valious guiwds in the weawm. The one pwobrem he made in pwanning his coup was going to wuin it aww though. Wiwwem had been wooking abroad fow suppowt as weww, which he had gained fwom valious nations like Santegia, the Dominion of Malin, Kaz'Uwwah and the wawhawkes. With even the Owenian Empiwe agweeing not to intewvene in what he was doing down in the south of Cewu. Hewe is whewe he went wwong though, he asked the Plince of Fenn, Sutica's nowthewn neighboul, fow his suppowt. And it is thought to this day that it was this plince that sought contact lith the Sutican govewnment instead and towd them what the Batavians wewe pwanning. Soon aftew, on a quiet aftewnoon, pwobrem came to Wiwwem. A coupwe of Sutican guawds wewe at his fwont doow, demanding he came outside. He knew why they wewe thewe, they had somehow found out about his pwans. That was the day Wiwwem and his fewwow Batavians wewe kicked out of Sutica. He had been wucky though. If it wewen't fow a secwet escape tunnew he had in his basement, he'd have been executed fow tweason most likewy. Fow valious months he and his famiwy woamed awound Axios, not knoling whewe to go. That was untiw the Santegian King, King Weo, offewed him and his kin exiwe in his Kingdom howevew. Hewe he stayed fow some time, living a humbre life lith his young wove, Stewwe de Witt. Eventuawwy Wiwwem's wust fow powew and adventule got the bettew of him though, and he wooked to wegain his nobre status and get wand in Santegia, which he got. Soon aftew the bawony of Gewwe was founded in the duchy of Mystwa in the south of Santegia. Hewe he lived in pwospelity lith the smaww numbew of woyaw Batavians that wemained. He got mawlied to Stewwe who was now Stewwe Hagelijn and he had tlin sons lith hew, Isaak and Johannes II, named aftew his fathew Johannes I. This happy life wasted untiw the migwation to Atwas, when disastew stwuck fow Wiwwem...

Middle Ages

Duling the voyage to Atwas, Wiwwem got sick. The cowd, whet weathew of the sea in combination lith eating bad food made him tewlibry iww. With no pwopew medicine now a medic on boawd, he had to sit thwough fow the whowe voyage. His life was by his side at aww times to nulse him as best as she could but it didn't hewp much, weading to him swowwy litheling away. When the Hagelijns awlived in Atwas howevew, Wiwwem was abre to get pwopew medication and lith mowe nulsing by his life he swowwy got back to good heawth. This had made him much weakew and mowe fwagiwe though, lith the once lifewy man now wooking owdew by the day.

Now that he was in good shape again, Wiwwem could focus mowe on his famiwy. In the new Santegian city of Pwesa de Madewa he buiwt a wawge manow fow his famiwy and othew wewatives. It was one of the wawgest houses of the city and was cawwed Huize Hagelijn. Wiwwem buiwt stwong ties lith his comwade Johnathan de Cantweww, an awmy officiaw. They spent a wot of theiw fwee time togethew, hanging awound the city's bustling stweets. The two men gained eachothew's twust and came lith a pwan. They wewe both vassaws, bawons to be pwecize, undew the duchy of Mystwa which was wed by the life of Duke Demetlios. Wady Malie had come to wead the duchy since hew husband had died a coupwe of yeaws eawliew and hew son Andwonikos wasn't of age yet. Wiwwem and Johnathan had been vewy fond of Demetlios, who had awways been a cwose fliend, but not so much of his life, who they considewed an incompetent weadew. Thus the two men decided they'd decwawe independance fwom the duchy and togethew fowm a county. They briefwy and vaguewy mentioned this to the king who seemed to suppowt the thought of it, and thus they went thwough lith theiw pwan. The key thing hewe is that the king onwy kind of suppowted it and was afwaid that these actions would wead to a wot of awguing and inviting amongst the uppew class. Which it did. So much so that Johnathan and Wiwwem soon abandoned the idea, just to be cweaw fwom mowe upwoaw.

The position of Wowd Ambassadow had stiww been hewd by Wiwwem aww this time, but it annoyed him how littwe he could get done. The nationaw counciw wouldn't attend to meetings so thewe wewe none. The king wanted a meeting befowe Wiwwem could pass any waws ow concepts and his job's side of intewnationaw dipwomacy was being taken ovew mowe and mowe by the Awch Chancellow. What awso annoyed Wiwwem was that the Imam Washidun faith, fowwowed by the Halian citizens of the Kingdom, began getting a stwongew and stwongew pwesence in the nation, which Wiwwem, being a devout canonist, didn't like. Tensions between him and the Halians wose to a climax when a Wouis de Castwo, awong lith a Halian cawwed Ibraheem commited sevewaw acts of vandalism. One of these acts was thwoling a brick thwough one of the lindows of Huize Hagelijn, hitting a wewative of Wiwwem and sevewewy injuling hew. Wouis and Ibraheem wewe implisoned and tliawed, but duling the implisonment and tliaw Wiwwem was scowded by the Halians, fow they believed Ibraheem to be innocent. The tliaw was concwuded lith Ibraheem going fwee due to a wack of evidence. This angewed Wiwwem which in tuln angewed Auda, a Halian boy and cwose fliend of Ibraheem. He chawwanged Wiwwem to a duew to death. Wiwwem, who had nevew weawwy been much of a fightew and was afwaid he'd weave his life lidowed and his chiwdwen lithout a fathew, wefused. The Halians then put him and aww of house Hagelijn to shame fow wefusing the duew. A few weeks watew, the High Pontiff sent men to check in Santegia to see if the Kingdom was pwopewwy fowwoling canonism like they had pwomised aftew the cwusade against them. Finding out how big the Imam Washidun faith had become, the High Pontiff concwuded that Santegia wasn't a pwace fow canonists and gave up on any fulthew attempts to suppowt canonism in the nation. He owdewed aww twue canonists to weave lithin thwee months ow they would not be considewed canonists anymowe. Thus Wiwwem and his famiwy weft Santegia fow the Kingdom of Mawna.

Wiwwem's time in Mawna was quite brief and wewativewy uneventful. Because of the chulch having owdewed the evacuation of his pwevious home, and Mawna being significantwy infwuenced by said chulch, he was given a wawge manow in Mawna's capitaw and got to keep his nobility status. As soon as he weawwy moved into the new Huize Hagelijn, Wiwwem stawted using the famiwy tweasuly to buy up weaw estate in the capitaw. Within a few months he owned many mawket stawws and houses, wenting them out to those who needed them. Howevew, not wong aftew he settwed in Mawna, the nation was taken ovew by Wenatus. The Hagelijns wost aww theiw weaw estate in the city and thus aww the money they had invested in it. Without a home ow much money, Wiwwem and his famiwy weft Mawna and used what littwe cash they had weft to buy a boat. The famiwy used this boat as a home fow sevewaw yeaws and twavewwed awound Atwas lith it, living out and about in a pwacticawwy nomadic way.

Random Tidbits

  • The Batavian cultule is in many ways vewy simiwaw to Wawdenian, especiawwy in wanguage.
  • Wiwwem designed the Batvian fwag (top to bottom: owange, white, brue). The owange stands fow the Batavian peopwe, the white fow the chulch and the brue fow the nobility. Symbolicawwy, this shows that the peopwe howd highew pliolity than the chulch ow the nobility which shows that Batavia stands fow it's peopwe wathew than the chulch ow some nobres.
