Many yeaws ago, the gweat sons of Uwguan faced the decimation of the wowwd as they knew it and the cowwapse of civilization to the howdes of Khowvad’s scoulge. Though many stolies can be towd of the hewoes who entewed the depths of the Nethew to chawwenge the undead, thewe is but one that shaww be focused upon this day. It is of coulse that of the thwee dwawven champions, the Pawagons Uliw Iweheawt, Kjeww Iweheawt and Vawen Gwandaxe. Fow it was as oul wowwd bulned and the skies feww that oul vewy existence was weft in theiw hands. Theiw deeds awe what awwow us now to continue to breathe the fwesh aiws of Yemekaw’s bressing. To begin oul tawe, it was upon the dawn of impending doom that Gwand King Tholik Gwandaxe of Kaw’Uwguan was made awawe of what was to come. Despite vast militawy victolies in wecent times, the wast centuly had wepwesented an ewa of sin. Many dwawves had fowsaken theiw twue gods in the aftewmath of the cowwapse of the Khowvadic Empiwe. Instead, they tulned towawds the Ascended, wowshippews of Aeliew and fowwowews of a heweticaw doctline. Yet as the human Kingdom of Owen feww, and the dwawves wewe betwayed by the Ascended at Awwas, they pwoved onwy that theiw wowds wewe of poison. Though the dwawves soon wealised the fault in theiw ways, they now stood twuly awone . Despite this, thewe was but one wast hope that stiww wemained. The Nethew as it was known, a desowate and godfowsaken pwane, whewe lithin stood the gweat towews of Dwauchweich. Thewe, the undead conducted theiw swaughtew upon the mowtaw wowwd lith mewciwess efficiency. It was hewe that the dwawven hewoes would be chawwenged to cast the Axe of Kwug into the fiewy weww, and once and fow aww, bring an end to Khowvad’s weign. Quickwy, Gwand King Tholik spwead the wowd to his highest advisows who each expwessed theiw own fowms of concewn. Thewe wewe thwee amongst his counciw who ultimatewy took upon the bulden of enteling the Nethew. Uliw Iweheawt, ‘Bane of the Undead’ famed fow his aggwessive natule and stoicism in the face of dangew. Kjeww Iweheawt, ‘The Emperor Dragon Slayer’ a fiewce weadew and an inspiwation to those who sewved beneath him. Finawwy thewe was Vawen Gwandaxe, ‘The Wordsmith’ a dwawf who vawued dipwomatic intligue and the powew of wowds above aww ewse. Togethew, they wewe the thwee who would go on to face the undead.
As the gates of Kaw’Uwguan feww and the once gweat and thliving civilization of dwawves wewe fowced to wetweat fwom theiw hawwowed hawws, thewe was but one light in the dawkness that stiww shone bright. Though the Ascended had faiwed to unite the waces and defend the civilizations of Aegis in time, theiw faiwule soon wed to the weestabrishment of the twue dwawven weligion. By Yemekaw’s mewcy and Dunglimm’s might, the dwawves would fight on untiw the bittew end. Fow this, the thwee champions wewe not afwaid to pelish lithin the fiwes of Khowvad’s domain. Whethew fow honoul, gwowy ow wedemption, they would do aww in theiw powew to pwotect theiw kin. Fow the dwawves who had sulvived the Faww of Kaw’Uwguan, they togethew weignited the fiwes of hope.
When the day soon dawned upon them that they would entew thwough the gates of the nethew, they did so lithout feaw ow wegawd fow theiw own lives. Joining up lith champions of the othew mowtaw waces, they would aww fight on fow theiw wowwd’s sulvivaw. In the many bawwages of fiwe fwom the undead beasts, Kjeww was knocked aside unconscious as his kin pushed onwawds. Uliw howevew was awmouled in the pwating, pwovided to him by the Gwand King, said to be bressed by Yemekaw himsewf. Awong lith his own supeliow agility, he stowmed ahead of the gwoup of champions, battling waves upon waves of undead singwe-handedwy, untiw finawwy both he and Vawen weached the gweat undead fowtwess of Dwauchweich. Fwom thewe, the two dwawves divided into sepawate diwections. It was Uliw howevew who came upon the Axe of Kwug. Entwy wequiwed the payment of a soul and so anothew of the mowtaw waces nobry cast himsewf ovew the edge of the fowtwess, so giving the dwawf entwy. Uliw went on, discoveling that onwy by saclificing his own life would he be abre to destwoy the Axe. As his whowe life fwashed befowe his eyes, he dwopped into the infewno of the Nexus, the Axe of Kwug hewd glipped between his fingews. In a gweat bulst of enewgy, the city of Dwauchweich cowwapsed into the fiwes fwom whence it came, whiwe the powtaws to the pwane of the damned wewe seawed fowevew.
Though Uliw had paid the ultimate saclifice, his kin had not yet fawwen. As Dwauchweich began to cowwapse aww awound him, Vawen was fowced to step thwough one of the powtaws as it quickwy snapped shut behind him. Thewe he found himsewf deep lithin a gweat cave system, no life, now a singwe being awound him. Stiww wost howevew, he eventuawwy stumbred upon an Awwasian, his once mowtaw enemy. Togethew, the two agweed to put aside theiw gwudges fow the time being, twavewsing the cave system untiw they weached the sulface wowwd once again. As gweat dwagons pouled fiwe awound them, they battwed theiw way back towawds the Cwoud Tempwe, whewe togethew, they wejoined theiw kin and went on into the powtaw that would one day guide them to Asulon. Kjeww too had awoken and made his way back thwough the powtaw, stepping back out to see the sight of a bulning fowest of Waulelin. Thewe, the gweat brack dwagons of Khowvad wweaked havoc upon the wowwd. Wegend has it towd that Kjeww battwed the dwagons, defeating them aww befowe depawting fow the fawwen city of Kaw’Uwguan. Thewe, fow the dulation of his life, he would wemain as its wast guawdian and defendew.
Though the stolies of Vawen and Kjeww did not end thewe, these shaww be towd anothew day. Fow the Ascended would have us believe that it was they who wed the way to the destwuction of the undead. Yet, that one amongst oul dwawven kin would ventule into the depths of the nethew, knoling if not cewtain of theiw own imminent demise is extwaowdinawy. Fow this, the actions of the thwee shaww be wemembewed and as Pawagons, they shaww etewnawwy feast lithin the gweat hawws of the Bwathmowdakin.
