Southerons were one of the two Human sub-races, along with Northerners. They originally appeared in Aegis. With the diversity of the human race, Southerons were fit into Farfolk.

History

It is commonly believed that when the world began all Humans appeared largely the same, based off of the looks of their father Horen. Due to Human restlessness, drive for discovery and quickly growing population, various groups split off from the first Human settlements. Some lived in the hot, flat plains in the area of what would become Whisper Isles and Al'Khazar. They would be the first Southerons. Living in an excellent climate for farming and the growing of crops meant that Southerons grew to become a people well suited for agriculture. In time they grew taller as a result of excellent nutrition, darker skinned with exposure to the sun and built up large cities where politics became ever more important.

In Aegis, the largest concentration of Southerons was found in the southern settlements of Oren on the King's Road, including Al'Khazar and Whisper Isles. Although Humans of all types could be found across the nation, Southerons greatly preferred the larger cities, surrounded by cropland, to the cold and desolate north. As the Undead began their attacks on Aegis, the Southerons suffered greatly when their cities were struck. Some began to blame their Northerner cousins for not preventing the chaos. During the events of the Phoenix Revolution, many participants were Southerons who sought change in leadership.

Upon moving to Asulon many Southerons moved to the flat plains of the Human nations, including areas in Renatus and Salvus near to the capitals. Many of the Southerons from Aegis died out over time, and it was their children and grandchildren who began to take on traits of the Southeron. It is often thought that in Asulon the bloodlines of the Humans became more blurred than they ever had been, as the Northerners and Southerons mixed together often in the new cities and towns. Curiously in Asulon, the geography was reversed compared to Aegis. The cold mountains of Hanseti were in the south and hot grasslands of Renatus and Salvus were in the north. Despite this, the terms Northerner and Southeron stuck. In Anthos Southerons primarily live in the areas around Kingston and Abresi.

Relations With Other Peoples

Unlike other bloodlines such as the High Elves and their kin or the Forest Dwarves and other sons of Urguan, Southerons have rarely been in strife with their Human relatives. Northerners and Southerons have always lived in relative harmony, although the differences between them have been known to lead to some strife.

When not living in Human lands or during travels Southerons often will stay with Elves. Both peoples enjoy fine wine, conversation and good literature.

Appearance

Southerons are typically tall, lithe and dark-skinned. Southerons usually settle and congregate in areas that are best suited for farming, and are some of the most prolific growers of crops among all peoples. The dark skin of the Southeron is believed to have developed as a result of the harsh sunlight that permeated the southern parts of Oren in Aegis. Some Southerons have very dark skin while others are lighter, but it is rare to find one who is as pale as a Northerner. With an abundance of good crops, the height of the Southeron increased steadily. Many remain fit and lean as a result of eating well. The clothing of Southerons is often loose fitting and light-weight. It is usually dyed with bright colours. Jewelry is common among Southeron women.

Strengths and Weaknesses

The Southerons are excellent at some things. Long a people regarded as farmers, they typically build settlements near large bodies of water that can irrigate crops. Wheat, melons, pumpkins, potatoes, sugarcane and carrots are all grown by Southerons in abundance. In combat, many Southerons prefer to wield a sword or bow and most are adequately skilled with them. For many Southerons, their greatest strength lies in their words. Politics and socializing is important to them, and being eloquent and well-spoken provides a boon in the political scene. Many Southerons are also good writers and entertainers.

Although most Southerons are able to competently wield a weapon of choice, few match the skill found amongst the Dwarves or Orcs in combat. Many Southerons shy away from physical labour other than farming as they lack the upper body strength to masterfully wield an axe or pickaxe.

Personality

Southerons are usually outgoing extroverts who enjoy the company of others. They are often found at the centre of attention among large circles of friends and acquaintances. Given the political drive of the Southeron, however, it can be difficult to determine who is truly a friend and who is viewed as a useful pawn. Vanity has often been a trait of the Southeron, as many will subtly compete in their clothing, housing and status. Making plans is often seen as a hindrance by Southerons, who like to live in the moment and go with the flow. They may be viewed as annoying by others, as the Southeron can talk for a long time without stopping, often on topics seen as flippant or trivial.
