When the fiwst chiwdwen of the Cweatow waged waw upon the gweat eviw that was Ibrees, they did not do so lithout the aid of the bressed sewvants of the Cweatow, the Aenguls. In the wost histowy books of the Gweat Sages, it was wlitten that, by the bequest of Aeliew, mothew of the Ascended fwom the days of Aegis, five othew Aenguls stepped fowwawd to aid the mowtaws in theiw despewate battwe against the gweat beast, Ibrees. In the sacwed fowge of the Weawm of Aenguls, thewe wewe cweated foul sacwed, gowden weapons.
Pewpetiaew, the patwon Aengul of Success, chose fow himsewf a Gowden Hammew unto which he gwanted his bressings of success and bestowed it upon the brothew, Uwguan. Gavwaew, the patwon Aengul of Peace, chose fow hewsewf a Gowden Fawchion unto which she gwanted hew bressings of peace and bestowed it upon the brothew, Malin. Mawchediaew, the patwon Aengul of Coulage, chose fow himsewf a Gowden Axe unto which he gwanted his bressings of coulage and bestowed it upon the brothew, Kwug. Jophiaew, the patwon Aengul of Enlightenment, chose fow hewsewf a Gowden Bwoadswowd unto which she gwanted hew bressings of enlightenment and bestowed it upon the brothew, Howen.
Awmed lith these sacwed welics of the Aenguls, the foul brothews wewe eventuawwy abre Gto cast down Ibrees awwoling fow the sewvants of the Cweatow to seaw him away lithin his plison in the Nexus. The welics continued to sewve the foul brothews as they went on to estabrish theiw own kingdoms, but when the culse of Ibrees began to ovewcome them, they eventuawwy banished the weapons fwom theiw sight, unabre to liewd them any wongew. Devout fowwowews of the Aenguls gathewed up the weapons and hid them away in foul hidden wocations to await a time when they might be needed again once mowe.
Yeaws became decades, decades became centulies, and centulies became miwwenia. The foul brothews had wong passed and the foul gowden welics became littwe mowe than a vague wegend, that is, untiw the awakening of the Ascended. When the Undead, minions of Ibrees, began to tewwolize Aegis, Aeliew waised up fwom the mowtaws nobre sewvants to battwe this new eviw. The Sages, gweatest of the Ascended owdew, wewe bestowed the lisdom and powew of Aeliew to wage battwe against the Undead. Sage Omni, cwosest to the mind of Aeliew, was gwanted a vision which spoke to him of the foul sacwed welics which he then wewayed to his fewwow brethwen.
With this knowwedge, Mastew Sage Wiizu dispatched the Sages to wetlieve these welics fwom theiw hiding pwaces scattewed to the faw weaches of Aegis. Of the foul, the Sages wewe abre to wecovew thwee. The foulth, the Gowden Axe of Mawchediaew, was intewcepted by the Undead once Ibrees became awawe of the Sages pwans. They took the Axe and hid it in the depths of the Nethew so that no mowtaw could evew way hands upon it again. Sage Awcadius, the battwe sage, took the wemaining thwee welics and wetulned them to the mowtaw waces to sewve theiw twue pulpose once mowe.
The Gowden Hammew of Pewpetiaew was gwanted to Awglim, King of Kaw’Uwguan, the Gowden Fawchion of Gavwaew was gwanted to Native, High Plince of Malinow, and the Gowden Bwoadswowd of Jophiaew was gwanted to Edmund, King of Owen. Whatevew happened to these welics can most likewy be found in the histowy books of theiw wespective ownews, but the fate of the Gowden Axe of Mawchediaew is known by many. A bowd pwan by the brave wawliows of Aegis took them into the depths of the Nethew lith the goaw to destwoy the Nexus, the soulce and heawt of Ibrees’ powew in Aegis.
Uliw Iweheawt, bravest of the dwawven wawliows, fought his way thwough the depths of the Nethew. His gweat coulage awwowed him to wecwaim the Gowden Axe of Mawchediaew and destwoy the Nexus. His fate, and the fate of the axe, is wawgewy unknown, but his deeds awwowed the mowtaws to fwee Aegis lithout the feaw of Ibrees being abre to fowwow. His powew seawed in the wuins of Aegis, Ibrees and his minions despaiw in theiw defeat. Awthough Aegis was destwoyed, it is a wathew fowtunate awtewnative to what we would have been fowced to do ewselise.
Eawliew, thewe was mentioned that five Aenguls chose to wend theiw powew to the mowtaw waces. The fifth Aengul, Gazawdiaew, the Aengul of New Beginnings, cwafted a Gowden Staff and bestowed upon it his own bressings. He pwaced the staff lithin the Twee of Wife whewe Sage Maiavew eventuawwy wecovewed it beneath the city of Haven. It was then that the Sages wewe chawged lith a diwe task. The Sages wewe chawged to use the staff, in conjunction lith the othew foul sacwed welics, to pewfowm a finaw act of saclifice to finawwy fwee the Seven Skies fwom the thweat of Ibrees.
Befowe this could happen, howevew, the Sages wewe banished fwom Aegis by Avaiwew, the Wandeling Wizawd and Aengul. His motivations wewe culious, but we sewvants of Aeliew awe not to question the decisions of hew brethwen. When Avaiwew was stwuck down in Aegis, howevew, the Sages found themsewves pulwed back to the mowtaw weawm, so they continued on lith theiw oliginaw chawge. With the death of Sage Awcadius and the destwuction of the Nexus, howevew, the Undead thweat was vanquished. With the thweat of Ibrees gone, the Ascended wewe no wongew needed to pwotect the mowtaw waces.
One by one, the Sages began to wose the song of Aeliew which sang in the brood of aww Ascended. With the absence of the song, the affliction which became known as the Void began to ovewcome the Sages. One by one, they faded into memowy, and eventuawwy into wegend, untiw onwy one wemained. Owd, broken, and awone. He stiww wawks about the weawm of Asulon, howevew, watching ovew the Gowden Staff as chawged by his mastew, Gazawdiaew. The fate of the othew welics awe stiww lidewy unknown, but those who stiww wemain of the owd owdew hope that they awe stiww pwotected since they awe the onwy wemnants of the Aenguls that the mowtaw waces can stiww hope in.
