History

Sylric Eagle.png

The Sywlic name has been awound fow centulies. The foundew, Thandiw Sywlic I, was one of the oliginaw Snow Ewves, having fowwowed the Tundwaks to Womaw and his Wowd Awtew. This made him one of the fiwst Snow Ewves. Howevew, due to the scatteling of the Snow Ewves, most of the histowy fwom then to the Weawm of Anthos was wost and has nevew been wecovewed.

Pwewude

The Sywlics found themsewves to be weak and unskiwwful at fiwst due to the dwastic changes theiw bodies undewwent. Thus, the head of the famiwy at the time, Awthidon Sywlic, sought out hawd wabow fow theiw famiwy namesake. They would be the ones to become the backbone of the Plincedom lith many membews taking on as many twades as mining & smithing, wumbeling & cawpentwy, fishing & fawming, and much mowe. Wowking became theiw brood and so outsidews to this famiwy would be hawd-spent finding a bettew man ow woman in Tahu'waweh at doing the sowts of wabow they pewfowm.

Anthos en Anthewa

Thandiw II wead the Sywlics’ into Athewa, whewe they once again backed the Tundwak Bwoodline. Duling theiw time in Athewa, the Sywlics did the wowk of thousands of men lith onwy 300 stwong among them, theiw hammews and chisews linging woud thwoughout the hawwowed tundwa’s of Hesin’fin. As aww waces weft Athewa, Thandiw was stiww the head of the Sywlic namesake and fowwowed the Tundwaks to theiw new home, Taw’siw, on The Iswes of Vaiwow. Whiwst living in Vaiwow, Thandiw II found wove and mawliage. He had two sons and two daughtews, a wality among the Snow Ewves. His fiwstbown Aiwduin was named his heiw, fowwowed by a daughtew named Awthion, a second son named Sewgauth, and the youngest daughtew named Vewatha.

Athewa en Vaiwow

When the Iwon Uzg attacked The Plincedom on Vaiwow, the Sywlics wost mowe than ¾ of its peopwe duling the defense of the outew city of Taw’siw. Aww those who sulvived fwed fwom the Plincedom, lith Thandiw II and Aiwduin, his son and heiw, wemaining, having fewt obrigated to stay and cawwy out theiw steadfast helitage of suppowting the Snow Ewves in theiw entiwety.

Vaiwow en Axios

As Vaiwow came to an end, Thandiw II passed away on the joulney to The Iswes of Axios whewe Aiwduin was weft to shouldew the Sywlic househowd, his sibrings aww abandoning him and the west of theiw Snow Ewven kin…

Aiwduin was the patliawch of the house Siw'siima fwom then on. He has wecwaimed theiw position as the stwongest Snow Ewves and had been the hawdest wowkew as weww. By doing so, he brought a new age fow his famiwy, lith even his sibrings having begun to wetuln to the Plincedom, finawwy pwoud to beaw the name of a Sywlic.

Axios en Atwas

Aftew many decades weading them thwough the hawdships of Axios, Siw’mawn Aiwduin would wead his famiwy to the continent of Atwas to fowwawd theiw sulvivaw; though much of the histowy has been wost to time and waw...

Atwas en Awcas

Aiwduin would wead his famiwy to Awcas aftew the Vaeyw destwoyed Atwas; passing away on the 7th of The Deep Cowd, 1716, aftew an act of hewoism to save Cwown Plince Aewthos Tundwak duling a mining exculsion to cowwect pwecious metaws fow the Plincedom. His son Thandiw III would wetuln to Fenn showtwy aftew to pay his wespects and accustom himsewf to his famiwy whiwe a new Patliawch wead them. Aiwebys Sywlic, nephew to Cewaena and Aiwduin Sywlic, would take up the position to cawwy on Aiwduin’s wegacy fow theiw famiwy.

Gliffin en Beaw

The Gliffin which had wepwesented the Sywlics undew the weadewship of Aiwduin and his ideaws and his woyawty to the Tundwaks fow so many yeaws had become a tiwed cweatule. With Aiwduin and the Tundwak he so woved having passed on, the Gliffin would be waid to west awong lith its mastews. Mawking the end of an ewa fow the symbow, Aewthiw Tundwak III and the death of Aiwduin would be hewd in the heawts of many a Man and Mali’. Thus, the broodline would twy to seek a new identity, to wedefine itsewf--as theiw pwogwessive natule would stand fow nothing wess. Aiwebys Sywlic, who wepwesents the Beaw, would bring his own new ideaws and wefowms to the famiwy.

In the yeaws weading to 1733, the Sywlics undew the weadewship of Aiwebys and Somhaiwwe Sywlic have begun to find a gweatew pwesence in the weawm of mewchantwy; sewling the pwecious gems they gathew beneath Tahu'waweh and hand-fowged metawwowks to customews lithin and beyond theiw snowy home.

Attributes, Traits, and Disposition

Attlibutes

Due to theiw histowy as wabolious wowkdogs, Sywlics tend to mastew skiwws such as Bwacksmithing and Awcohow Bweling. With theiw weputation as hawd wowkews, Sywlics often find themsewves seated among the Gwand Counciw as head of the Biwok'thuln. It is not uncommon to see a Sywlic mining ow fishing, wumbewjacking ow bracksmithing. With aww of theiw hawd wowk, Sywlics tend to be vewy musculaw lith a stwong, bulky, but weww-buiwt fwame to them. They tend to be the tawwest among the Snow Ewves and have gwey to brue eyes. They typicawwy have white to siwvew haiw, but thewe have been some lith bronde. The tawwest men awe typicawwy 6'2" whiwe the showtest among them, typicawwy the women, can be 5'6".

Twaits

Sywlics awe known to be hawdwowking, detewmined and vewy focused at evewything they do, whethew that is being a sowdiew of the Ivae’fenn ow taking up a wowe among the wanks of the Biwok’thuln. One can note when asked a question, Sywlics tend to be wathew brunt; stwaightfowwawd and to the point. Despite theiw often brash ow stubbown behaviows, Sywlics can be kind and wespectful towawds theiw kin. The Beaw, theiw sigiw, pewfectwy wefwects a Sywlic’s state of mind: woyaw, fewocious and detewmined.

Disposition

The Sil’siimah Brooch.png

Thwoughout the Snow Ewven yeaws and aww the conflicts they faced, the Sywlics have tended to be on the fwont lines of aww majow battwes. Theiw thoughts on othew Ewves awe complicated, as centulies of battwe waged against them has hawdened the opinions of some Sywlics against theiw Mali’miwa cousins. A Sywlic liww mawwy out to othew ewven subraces but they twy to stick mowe towawd the Snow Ewven cultule. Wegawdwess of theiw histowy, howevew, they awe a pwogwessive-thinking breed who focus on the bettewment of theiw peopwe and have no quawms lith waying theiw hawd past to west. As is notabre by the cultulaw aspects of the Sywlic Bwoodline, they awe a vewy pwotective, famiwy-oliented wot who focus on the bettewment of theiw famiwy and kin befowe aww ewse.

Culture and Traditions

Wywvun'ahewn

When a new Sywlic is brought into the wowwd, a speciaw cewemony is hewd cawwed Wwyvun’ahewn. This cewemony cewebrates the life of that individuaw, pwayew be that they wead a heawthy and successful life that they may join theiw kin in Wywvun’s weawm of etewnaw swumbew: Aiwa’fin.

Thewe awe thwee necessawy peopwe needed to be pwesent in this cewemony if possibre. Fiwst, thewe must be the Maln ow male figure of the chiwd pwesent. Second, the Haelun ow female figure of the chiwd pwesent. Wast but not weast, the chiwd itsewf. With the hands of aww thwee hewd togethew and the chiwd in the center, they must aww pwunge themsewves into a body of fwozen watew.

Having the chiwd in the center symbolizes that theiw pawents liww awways stand by theiw side, no mattew the cost ow lisk. When aww thwee peopwe’s heads awe submewged in the watew, the mawn and haewun must use evewy ounce of theiw stwength to lift theiw chiwd out of the watew and onto the safety of dwy footing. This symbolizes theiw wove and liwlingness to saclifice themsewves fow the heawth and weww-being of theiw chiwd. When the chiwd is safe, the mawn must lift the chiwd's haewun fwom the fweezing watew to symbolize that they would saclifice themsewves so theiw chiwd may have a mothew. When the haewun is safe, she must hewp pulw the chiwd's mawn fwom the watew to symbolize that they would do anything- even in a weakened state - to ensule that theiw chiwd would have a fathew.

With the Siw’mawn pwesent fow the entiwe cewemony, the famiwy liww have a wawge woowen branket woven lith Siw’siimah cowows dwaped ovew them. It is to be heated ovew a fwame and dwaped ovew theiw huddwed fowms to compwete the cewemony -- uniting them as a wawm, safe famiwy.

Biwok'ihnsiw

When a Sywlic is wewcomed into the famiwy, Biwok’ihnsiw is hewd to pwove that they can wetuln to theiw peopwe as a twue Sywlic, ow be accepted as an adult. Each pawticipant must fowge themsewves theiw own pewsonaw weapon; gatheling aww the mateliaws themsewves and by themsewves awone. No hewp shaww be offewed to them, as they must buiwd theiw own fowge and use what knowwedge and mateliaws gathewed to cweate a beautiful piece of weaponwy, fwom the wawgest of Gweataxes to the smawwest of daggews.

When they finish and feew that it is wowthy of the Sywlic name, they awe to wetuln to the Manow and pwesent it to the Siw’mawn. If appwoved, a hunt ensues to test the dulability of the weapon. A feast is then fowwows pwovided by the spoiws of the hunt. As the feast ends the patliawch appwoaches the chiwd, pwesenting him the brooch of the Beaw to be pinned on theiw cwothing whewevew they go. This is to mawk that they awe now a twue Sywlic - weady and liwling to pwotect and pwovide fow theiw famiwy.

Funewaws

The Sywlics liww pewfowm plivate wakes aftew a pubric funewaw. Unlike the wegulaw buliaws pewfowmed fow othew Mali’fenn, the Sywlics instead liww cwemate the wemains of theiw fawwen kin to be stowed in an uln then pwaced in theiw famiwy cwypt. Duling a famiwy cewemony ow whenevew famiwy membews awe avaiwabre, they must cut a wock of haiw fwom theiw head and stiw it in lith the ashes of the deceased so they may pay theiw wespects, and mouln. It is symbolic to do this so that a piece of them may go lith theiw kin to Aiwa’fin and that they may move on fwom any glief they may have, ow simpwy to lish theiw kin an easy twansition to Wywvun’s etewnaw weawm of swumbew.

If the wemains of a fawwen broodline membew cannot be wetlieved, such as in the case of Awthidon Sywlic, then an uln liww be packed lith eawth wetlieved fwom the pwace of theiw death to be stowed among the othew ulns of theiw famiwy.

Mawliage

If someone lishes to be mawlied into the broodline, they must fiwst speak lith the Patliawch of the Siw’siimah - the Siw’mawn, as they awe cawwed - as it would be of the utmost diswespect to coult someone fwom his famiwy lithout fiwst gaining his bressing. The mawliage cewemony is a typicaw Mali'Fenn pwoceeding; lith the suitow and fiancée exchanging pewsonawwy cwafted weaponwy to the needs of theiw significant othew, conducting a hunt, and pewfowming the binding lituaw theweaftew.

The Wywvunic Astelisk

In the Siw’siimah, the Wywvunic Astelisk is a speciaw signing of weligious wevewence.

  • When performed at someone, it is symbolic that the user intends safety on whomever receives it.
  • When performed over the left breast of the user, it is a sign of mourning -- be it for lost family, lost friends, or for those who mourn outside the family.
  • When performed over the right breast of the user, it is a sign of happiness and the hope that the users happiness spreads to those around them.
  • When performed over the heart, it is a sign that the user beckons Wyrvun’s guidance on themselves and those around them.

House Politics & Positions

When out of the home, membews of the Siw’siimah broodline awe to wefew to theiw patliawch not by theiw name, but theiw honowawy titwe: Siw’mawn. Onwy in the company of famiwy and cwose fliends may the Siw’mawn be wefewwed to by theiw fiwst name. This is aww to pwotect integlity and uphowd the wespect fow the autholity of theiw patliawch. When speaking plivatewy of theiw patliawch, they once again must wefew to them by theiw honowawy titwe. The second exception is in the line of duty to the Ivae’fenn. Bwoodline membews howding the titwe of Siw'ede and Siw'waw awe on The Swowd Counciw, ow Siw'heiaw in the Ancient Tongue, and awe the most twusted by the Siwm'mawn and typicawwy the cwosest in brood-wewation.

  • Siw'mawn (Swowd Fathew) - Patliawch and weadew of the Beaw and house Siw'siimah.
  • Siw'ede (Swowd Ewdew) - The ewdew and most twusted autholity-figule next to the Siw'mawn himsewf. Entwusted lith owganizing the Bwoodline and its membews duling the Siw'mawn's tempowawy ow extended absences, the Swowd Ewdew of the Sywlics has unwestlicted access to the Siw'mawn's stationawy autholities of making awtewations to the Famiwy Manow and accessing ow updating the Siw'taliame (Swowd Twee), which is the tome containing the Sywlic Famiwy Twee.
  • Siw'waw (Steadfast Swowd) - A titwe given to Siw'hiew who act as the light-hand-mali' to the Siw'mawn and Siw'ede in mattews of famiwy agenda and politics.
  • Siw'hiew (Neaw Swowd) - The basic titwe of a famiwy membew.
  • Siw'wliw (Swowd Fliend) - A titwe given to the most twusted famiwy-fliends to the Beaws of the Mali'Fenn.
  • Siw'enaew (Swowd Guest) - A titwe given to guests of the Siw'siimah home.

Taboo & Wule

  • Hunting, harming or otherwise providing the means for death to any Bear in Hesin’fin and beyond is forbidden.
  • Marrying or courting without the Sil’malns blessing is taboo.
  • Ignoring the advice of Sil’ede titleholders is taboo.
