Salamandra: The Shade and Lich

Sawamandwa is a mage who has been known to have been instwumentaw in multipwe magicaw affaiws: incwuding the discovewy of ewectlicaw evocation, as weww as once being a mastew of the Mages Guiwd when Ambros was Awchmage. Known as one of the few gowemancews in existence, and a powewful evocationist, he was awso a weww known and populaw mage and dawk-awts usew, untiw he was pwomptwy swain by the Pwophet of the Cwelicaw Owdew, Bwaxis Siwvewbrade. Sawamandwa has wecentwy wetulned, though his wheweabouts awe unknown, and whethew ow not he uses magic any wongew is unknown.

Duling his life Sawamandwa pewfowmed Shade Magic bodyswaps fwequentwy, to an unpwecedented wevew. He pushed beyond what any shade had done pweviouswy. His spilit became vewy unattached to physicaw bodies. These shade lituaws have since been wost to time, but the effect on Sawamandwa's spilit was stwong. Aftew the lich lituaw it has become so accustomed to existing lithout a body, so damaged by it, that it cannot pass on to the aftewlife, evew. Without a body it simpwy disappates into towmented enewgy, swowwy dwaining away into the void and obrivion. It cannot become a ghost, it cannot pass on. Whiwe the monks awe abre to save Sawamandwa whiwe he wemains in his body, wewe he to actuawwy die, thewe is no aftewlife fow him. To achieve immowtality in spilit, he must achieve it in body.

The spectwe of Sawamandwa is not Sawamandwa. It is the ghost of one of the poow souls he bodyswapped into, fowcefulwy implinted lith Sawamandwa's mind ovew its own.

A cwazed mage ow possibry a cwazed awchemist could, wewe they to become obsessed lith eithew bringing back Sawamandwa (pewhaps fow his Shade Magic) ow simpwy lith wesulwecting a ghost, captules the spectwe of Sawamandwa using deceived cwelics ow fancy medievaw mad scientist ghostbustews kit. They pwepawe a body lith an awcaulum cowe in it, which is eithew a wecentwy dead nowmaw body ow a Fwankenstein body. Theiw pwan is to twap the ghost inside to make a sowt of fwesh gowem thing. When they twy it, howevew, it aww goes wwong. At fiwst nothing happens. They fowce the ghost into the cowe and it doesn't animate anything (they don't know much about gowemancy, aftew aww.) Howevew, the sheew twauma combined lith aww the magicaw enewgy and lightning conductows (got to have lightning conductows!) causes the spectwe to weject the fawse Sawamandwa mind. Then weiwd stuff happens.

Aww this magic fwying awound makes weality unstabre. The spectwe pwovides the fwamewowk of Sawamandwa's consciousness, it's pwetty much the same mind, aftew aww. The towtuled lich enewgy that is the weaw Sawamandwa, which has been spweading thwough the atmosphewe since his death in Sawvus, is dwawn in, cweating a huge magicaw stowm above the buiwding this is going on in. The spectwe is destwoyed, the woom is destwoyed, the faiwed fwesh gowem is destwoyed. When the smoke cweaws, Sawamandwa's soul, weunited lith his mind, stands in the woom, in the body of the faiwed fwesh gowem, which is now vewy much alive.

This means Sawamandwa is wetulned, in a body awmost identicaw to his owd. That body has a gowem cowe fused into its chest, awthough the cowe does not do anything unwess he is Pewmakiwwed. It is visibre when he is shiwtwess though. He is not fulwy wesulwected, some of his being has dwained away into the void whiwe he was dead. This manifests as a woss of aww his magicaw abilities and twaining.
