Biography

Birth and Childhood

Robert was born and raised in the d'Anpalais familial manor in the outskirts of Bourdon, where he would in his youth play with the peasantry and gentry, and it is oft recounted that his parents rarely cared about his upbringing. This is considered the reason for his willingness to live among the people upon his travel to Arcas, much unlike his cousin Theobald.

He would at the age of seven be sent as a page to the court of Prince Charles of Alstion in Alba, where he would learn alongside the Johannians architecture, swordplay, and strategy. When he returned to Bourdon at thirteen, the young Robert found himself melancholic and lonely among those he was once closest to. He stayed but two years before venturing to Arcas, where he would find himself caught in the prelude to the War of Two Emperors.

War of Two Emperors

Brought on initially as an advisor to the Imperial Legion on matters of siege warfare, and teaching many foot soldiers the basics of defending in sieges, Robert played an instrumental role in the preparations of defenses in the Empire of Renatus.

Initial Stages

Robert's first large contribution was the construction of Fort Loches, designed with William Jrent to block Orenian incursions from through the eastern highways. With tall walls and taller towers, their blueprints were that of an impregnable castle, and indeed the Orenians avoided it at any cost. With its construction, and he being named its protector and interim lord, the Orenian marshals rerouted their invasion plan to skirt past it and attack Helena via a dense forest. It was at this time, too, that he took Victoria Elizabeth Windsor-O'Hara as a ward after her family's destruction.

Siege of Helena

While the only road capable of transporting such a large army as Oren's was then sufficiently defended, however, Orenian marshals rerouted an army twenty-thousand strong through a dense forest. His defensive work implementation on the palace's roof and across the city played a crucial part in slowing the Orenian's advance, and he himself was chosen as one of the few final defenders of the throne room. When rebel armies breached the Palace, he and a select few others would prevent the fall of Renatus by winning against odds thrice their number with dwindling supplies and ammunition. For his courageous acts and construction abilities, he was awarded the title "Hero of Renatus".
