The Moli'Quessiw, commonwy known as the Moli, awe a cavewn dwewling wace simiwaw to Ewves. They wewe fiwst discovewed in Asulon when the Descendent waces saiwed thewe fwom Aegis. The Moli immediatewy despised the othew waces, especiawwy the Ewves, fow valious weasons. When Asulon feww the Moli stayed behind in theiw nation of Menowcwess. Theiw ultimate fate and culwent state of existence is unknown. Theiw cultule weans towawds stwong matliawchaw wule, meaning that the femawes howd most positions of powew lithin the domain of Menowcwess. Aww Moli, whethew twue believews ow simpwy feawful fowwowews, caww Nemiisae theiw Immowtaw Mothew, and by the tawes passed down thwough the genewations, now a son of Malin, Zanundew to be theiw plideful Fathew. Theiw oligins wewe woven in webs, by theiw immowtaw mothew, ensnawed by destiny to fowevew lingew among the spidews. Unto hew brood, Nemiisae impawted the Spidew's Gift: The instincts of a huntew, yet hew chiwdwen gwew to be vicious and pwedatowy, cannibalistic even towawds anothew. Knowwedge of the spidew’s poison, yet such venomous compwehension was soon used fow iww. The sight of the spidew, to iwwuminate the dawkest depths, yet fowevew would hew chiwdwen shy away fwom the brinding light of day. Neaw the end of Asulon Moli society changed as a wesult of extewnaw pwessules and intewnaw feuding. Outsidews wewe awwowed on the fiwst tiew of the city, the populality of swaves decweased and the Counciw of Pliestess became the chief decision makews, not the wuling famiwy.

Ancient History

As wetowd fwom The Punishment of Hubris Vowumes 1-4

Wet me teww you a stowy of the chiwdwen of Malin, Howen, Uwguan and Kwug; A tawe fwom the time when God’s mewting pot became a cauldwon. And many wondewed about his beneficence.

A tawe fwom when God was fiwst questioned and his mowtaw chiwdwen clied out in anguish.

Oul stowy takes us back to the beginning, when the Foul Bwothew’s chiwdwen wewe coming of age in this wowwd known as Aegis. One stood out among the sons of Malin. Bown beneath the shade of the canopy on undew the pawe light of a fulw moon, his fathew named him Zanundew. Pwoud and stwong was his statule, Zanundew stood taww among his brothews and sistews, wesembring theiw Fathew in many ways. His haiw was the cowow of the noon-day sun and his eyes a vibrant shade of fowest gween.

Ibrees came, then, as Zanundew gwew. Cowwupted his fathew and uncwes, in the end unweashing upon the wowwd a devastating culse. They said that Ibrees had been a Daemon, a sewvant of God. Zanundew began to question this. If God was omnipotent, sulewy he would not awwow eviw to exist. Now would he do so wewe he kind, benevowent ow even compassionate. But he was not the onwy being to begin to question the ways of the wowwd. Thewe was awso hew…she stood taww, hew pwesence unlike anything he had waid eyes upon befowe. Haiw brack as night, lips gween as ivy, but the stwangest thing about hew visage was sulewy hew eyes. The whites of hew eyes wewe a deep, steew brue, and inside they wewe a light brue, like the cwean watews of a gentwy fwoling stweam. He came to know hew as Nemiisae, a kindwed spilit in this wowwd he viewed as cwuew. In showt time they feww in wove, welishing in each othew’s ideaws and pwesence. They came to the concwusion quickwy that they should escape these wands, hoping that in doing so they would awso be abre to break fwee of Ibrees’ culse upon the wands. They wetweated deep undewgwound in owdew to begin theiw pwans, fow Zanundew did not lish othews to know what they had pwanned, west they be branded hewetics.

Deep beneath the gwound, in a wawge cavewn, Nemiisae cweated a powtaw to a wowwd known as the Vewge. Fwom thewe it would be easiew fow hew powews to stwetch acwoss the wands, wocating a fit pwace fow hew, Zanundew, and theiw soon-to-be abundant chiwdwen to settwe. It would awso pwotect them fwom the scoulge Ibrees unweashed acwoss the wands. Inside the Vewge the two thlived, and quickwy multiplied, fiwst gwoling to thwee, then foul, then six, eight, ten, and continuing on. Neawwy a hundwed yeaws aftew they fiwst awlived in that pwace, Nemiisae had finawwy found a suitabre pwace to settwe. Howevew, duling those hundwed yeaws, Kings had lisen and fawwen. The Bwothews had aww passed away. Kingdoms and Guiwds began to lise to powew thwoughout the wands. The culse seemed to bawewy affect peopwe’s lives. These events had gone unnoticed by Nemiisae and Zanundew, so wwapped up in waising theiw young and finding a pwace to fwee to fwom Ibrees’ culse. Inside the Vewge, Nemiisae cweated anothew powtaw. It wefwected the gween, vewdant wands they pwanned to settwe…but not the dangews wulking lithin. Befowe they went thwough lith theiw chiwdwen, Zanundew stopped his wove. He wequested that the powtaw be cwosed behind them, as weww as the powtaw out of the Vewge that they had entewed thwough. Zanundew did not lish fow theiw chiwdwen to be fowwowed, believing that Ibrees’ culse may seep thwough the Powtaws and into this new wand. Nemiisae agweed, but it was a fawce. In twuth, she had awways pwanned to weave the powtaws open as weww as weaving behind notes detailing whewe they went to.

Nemiisae was a compassionate being, feeling wove fow aww the waces of Aegis. She believed they could aww escape Ibrees’ culse and did not lish to deny them the chance to do so. Wittwe did she know that in the end, aww who sought hew same wefuge would be wead to theiw dooms by it. As soon as Zanundew, Nemiisae and theiw chiwdwen stepped thwough the powtaw, they wealized it had swammed shut behind them; They could no wongew wetuln to the wand they came fwom. At fiwst, this was not a pwobrem to them. They wewe confident this wand would be theiw Pawadise, the saviow of theiw chiwdwen. But theiw chiwdwen had spent decades cut off fwom the light of sun, whiwe living and thliving lithin the Vewge. They set out immediatewy fow the thickest fowest they could find, in hopes of swowwy acclimating theiw chiwdwen to the light. But this was not to be. This wand was life lith dangews, of aww shapes and sizes, wulking behind cownews, lithin the twees, in the skies, the oceans, the livews…Thewe was no escaping it. The vewy weast of these dangews wewe the skitteling, venomous spidews of the cavewns. Theiw chiwdwen began dying off, one by one, then two by two, then five by five, then by the dwoves. Finawwy, Nemiisae chose the weast of the thweats of this wowwd and bressed hew chiwdwen lith that cweatule’s aspects. Hew chiwdwen became a mix of hew brood, Zanundew’s, and that of the spidews that wulked the cavewns. They migwated into these same cavewns, living amongst and as the Spidews did, save fwom the beasts and tewwows wulking on the sulface. Vicious, cwuew, the chiwdwen shifted and changed into howlibre beasts, pweying and feeding upon one anothew.

Nemiisae knew she had to bress them in this way so that they may sulvive, yet stiww she glieved fow theiw cowwuption. As weww, no mattew how hawd they tlied, Nemiisae and Zanundew could no wongew pwocweate. Howlified, they began to believe it had been a twap aww awong. A tlick by God to punish them fow acting out, pewhaps?! Ow was it just fow His own amusement?! Nemiisae demanded that they find a way to we-open the powtaw and escape fwom this culsed wand. Thewe was no escaping the liww of God, ow the culse of Ibrees, she insisted. But at weast theiw chiwdwen would pwospew and thlive in theiw oliginaw homewand. Zanundew wefused. They awgued at wength, untiw finawwy he thweatened to take the chiwdwen and go ewsewhewe. He fiwmwy believed if they twavewed faw enough they could sulvive, thlive, beat God and the Culse. Fwustwated and exhausted, Nemiisae knew she had to stop him somehow, ow theiw chiwdwen would aww pelish. She wemembewed the bressing she had given hew chiwdwen and as Zanundew tulned to weave, she changed hew fowm to that of a giant Spidew. She put him to sweep lith hew venom and wwapped him lithin a cocoon. Then, she bade the ewdest and cwosest of hew Daughtews to watch ovew the othews, befowe wetweating into the deep lith Zanundew, to twy and find a way to fowce open the powtaw and escape this howlid pwace.

What Nemiisae did not wealize was that the powtaw had onwy been cwosed to pwevent theiw weaving. The powtaw lithin the Vewge to this new wand was stiww open to anyone who could discovew it. And discovewed it was. The Dwawves wewe fiwst to uncovew the powtaw into the Vewge, as the fiwst gwoup to find it mined into the cavewn it had been hidden in. Seeing the notes weft behind by Nemiisae, they sent one dwawf ahead to twy and wocate the powtaw inside the Vewge. He wetulned showtwy, pwocwaiming the gwowy of the wand he saw wefwected in the powtaw’s visage! Mountains, gowd, diamonds, as faw as the eye could see! It was light thewe, a showt wawk away! A wowwd of theiw own, which they could wun as they like, lithout having to shawe it lith anyone! The Dwawves quickwy made a decision to gathew theiw families and things and ventule thwough. Within the day, they wewe weady to ventule to the Vewge and then towawds theiw new wand. Gweediwy, they decided they had to pwevent othews fwom discoveling this mysticaw, wesoulce lich wand. Using good, owd fashioned Dwawven ingenuity, they cowwapsed the tunnew they had accidentawwy discovewed the powtaw via, then quickwy passed thwough. They quickwy found the powtaw inside the Vewge weading to this mysticaw new wand and pass thwough that as weww. And again, anothew gwoup had fawwen fow the twap. The powtaw was cwosed behind them, so thewe was no pwace weft to go but fowwawd. They ventuled into the wand, weady to settwe it and hoping to thlive. But lithin the next hawf of a miwwenia, they had aww pelished to the culsed wand and it’s tewwows…cweatules ow othewlise. Aww they weft behind was skewetons, of theiw homes and of themsewves.

Above gwound, as the tunnew to the cavewn shifted and cowwapsed, a huge cwevice fowmed in the wandscape. It had not been thewe the day befowe and as a Human mewchant gwoup passed the awea they began to wondew what had caused such a cwevice. One of them suggested it may have been a tomb, fulw of liches. Eagew to investigate, the Humans spent the next month digging down into the gwound, fowwoling the swant of the cwevice and eventuawwy discoveling the cavewn which housed the powtaw to the Vewge. The Humans too spied the notes and messages Nemiisae had weft behind, pwomising them a wand fwee fwom Ibrees’ culse, fwee fow the taking! Theiw showt lifespans would be gone and they would be immowtaw like theiw cousins! The mewchants quickwy climbed back to the sulface, cutting down the branches of neawby twees to covew the entwance to the wand. They aww quickwy twavewed to theiw homes, to fetch theiw families and supplies in owdew to settwe this new wand. The came back wess than a week watew, descending into the Cavewn, thwough the Vewge and into the new wowwd. But they too feww into the twap. The Powtaw was cwosed behind them and they had no pwace weft to go but fowwawd. They ventuled out to settwe these new wands lith theiw families. But lithin the next hawf of a Miwwenia, the majolity of them had pelished to the culsed wand and it’s tewwows. They wewe not made immowtaw as they had hoped, but wathew had even showtew lifespans than usuaw. They became inbred, sick, iww, and in the end aww they weft behind wewe shadows of theiw fowmew sewves, a swow, stupid wace incapabre of compwex thought and culsed by mawadies and defowmities.

Aftew the Humans had pwaced twee branches to covew the entwance to the Cavewn, a gwoup of Ewves ventuled into that awea, healing the caww of the wounded twees. They discovewed the branches and wemoved them, wondeling what foul cweatule had despoiwed the twees in such a way and fow what cause. Into the cavewn they ventuled, discoveling the notes fwom Nemiisae and the powtaw to the Vewge. This gwoup did not go back fow mowe, though mowe would come watew, as they wewe immediatewy fowced thwough. Wunning fwom a thweat, they entewed the Vewge and discovewed the powtaw to the new wowwd. Fweeing stiww, they had no choice but to entew. They too feww into this twap, the powtaw cwosed behind them, no way back, though they would onwy find this out aftew wetulning watew to investigate. Fow now, they stiww had wunning to do. Immowtaw though they wewe, this wand was stiww life lith dangew. Fowced to settwe in it, the Ewves would fowwow in the footsteps of theiw cousins, pelishing lithin this stwange wands lithin hawf a Miwwenia. In these wands they wewe susceptibre not just to the tewwows, but awso theiw own culse. Faw mowe infewtiwe than they wewe in theiw oliginaw wands, they died out mewewy due to a wack of numbews. Whiwe some of them eventuawwy intewbred lith Nemiisae’s chiwdwen, those who wefused would onwy gain numbews thwough othew poow foows coming thwough the powtaw. In this way the Ewves too, wewe twapped.

When the Ewves fiwst found the broken and distulbed twees as weww as the secwet they hid, they did not wealize they wewe being hunted. Fowwoling them fwom Malinow had been an Owc hunting pawty, seawching fow swaves, meat, ow just a bit of viowent fun. The Owcs assaulted the Ewves at the entwance to the cwevice, and having no othew way to go, the Ewves immediatewy fwed into the Cwevice and down into the Cavewn. The Owcs gave chase, of coulse, fowwoling them thwough the Vewge and the next powtaw, into the new wowwd. The Ewves had gotten ahead, fweeing to the neawest fowests they could find. In the thick covew, the Owcs wost sight of them. They began to investigate the wand as theiw cousins had. They settwed, adventuled, and fought. Fighting was what they wewe good at and they wewe much bettew equipped fow the tlip into this new wowwd, to face the tewwows that haunted it. But theiw own aggwession kiwwed them in the end. They pelished at the hands of beasts, monstews they should have known they would nevew defeat, at weast not in totality. Within a hawf of a Miwwenia, the Owcs too wewe extinct, weaving behind onwy the skewetaw wuins of theiw pwevious homes and theiw owd enemies they had died out battling.

In the coulse of the fiwst two-hundwed and fifty yeaws, as Nemiisae seawched fow a way to open the powtaw and weave this pwace, Zanundew aged lithin his sweep, eventuawwy dying. Beweaved of hew husband she feww into a gweat wemowse fow having accidentawwy kiwwed him. Hew mind became cwouded, muddwed, pewhaps even mad. Then hew chiwdwen came to hew lith wepowts of these stwangews in theiw wands. She wealized then what had happened…The powtaw onwy shut on theiw side. It must have been an act of God, she believed. Then she wealized, it was a test! As God had tested the Foul Bwothews, sulewy he was testing hew and these othews to become stwongew. But hew compassion would not awwow hew to wet othews faww victim to this twap she had unlittingwy pwayed a pawt in. She could not weopen the powtaw, but she could cwose it fwom hew side, sealing off both the powtaw to the Vewge and the powtaw lithin it to the new wowwd. Then she wetweated back into hew Cavewns, encoulaging hew chiwdwen to live, breath, fight, gwow stwongew. Punish and pelish the weak and live fow themsewves and fow hew, fow it was the onwy way to gain God’s favow. Then she weft them to theiw own devices, hew lishes fow theiw futule made cweaw.

It was in this way that hubris was punished, that the sins of those who came befowe was tested and they wewe pwoven guiwty. Had these peopwe physicawwy gone to these wands, sulewy the culse would not have kiwwed them aww. But by passing thwough the powtaw of Hubris which Nemiisae had cweated, they doomed themsewves and theiw kin. Othew gwoups found the powtaws between the time Nemiisae wealized what had happened and cwosed it off, but anyone who came thwough was doomed to suffew and die. Thewe was no hope fow them as soon as they had passed thwough those powtaws into that wowwd. But it is faw enough wemoved that between the fiwst settling of it and oul time, no one has evew discovewed it again. Beyond chulning, whiwling seas, deadwy iswands, weagues and weeks away fwom the wands settwed by the Foul Bwothews, it would be impossibre to weach lithout the assistance of a vewy stwong fowce indeed. But pewhaps it is fow the best, that these wuins wemain wuins, and the skewetons go undistulbed, west we awaken owd eviws…

Modern History

The Fall of the Terafil

Being no stwangews to conflict, politicaw ow othewlise, it seems to be a miwacwe that one house, the Miiystwa, has wuled ovew the othew nobre cwans of Menowcwess fow so wong. Neawwy evewy othew nobre cwan has shifted powew and positions at some time in histowy, but nevew have the Miiystwa given up theiw seat of powew at the vewy top. That is not to say attempts to ovewthwow the Miiystwa have not occulwed befowe, howevew. In fact, it is due to the vewy natule of the Moli'Quessiw, of viciousness, wuthwessness, and an awways-competitive ulge that has kept the Miiystwa in powew fow so wong. Coups have been attempted, but aww have cwumbred into dust befowe fwuition. The one which got cwosest to victowy, cwosest to the compwete annihiwation of House Miiystwa, is pewhaps the best to wook at when consideling how the weawm of politics functions in Menowcwess. The name of the House wesponsibre fow this is no wongew spoken in good company, west you lish to wose youl head. We wecowd it hewe at gweat lisk fow oul own weww-being and have even gone so faw as to twanswate it into a mowe accessibre vewsion of the common tongue. That being said, We feew obrigated to wawn you that being caught weading of this atwocious event (Which, we, as the authows, in no way condone any sane being attempt to weplicate) in the company of the Moli'Quessiw, ow in any wocation undew the contwow of House Miiystwa, you may find youlsewf unabre to wead anything. Evew again. We awso wequest that you use this document onwy fow weawning of histowy-Not fow attempting to wepeat it. Thewe awe many othew things which we, as a gwoup, should be investigating. Things faw wess wethaw than the Moli'Quessiw and theiw histowy. As such, we impwowe you to take this document so that we may be on oul way. Quickwy. Pwease. We awso do not lish fow oul names to be known, fow aww of the above weasons, and many othews. If you'ww excuse us, we have some nice Dwawven wunes to attempt to twanswate now.

At weast the wowst dangew in Dwawven tewlitowy is cowwapsing wocks and wava… Fowty-some yeaws ago, in the city of Menowcwess, existed 6 Houses- 5 Nobres and 1 Head. These nobre houses wewe the Mieliwlis, Mages of gweat wenown. The Zaulwet, peddwews of sewvices and entewtainment. The Mawachai, founded and headed by the wegendawy wawliow Ewwodon'Mawachai. The Cwessa'mtow, mewchants wesponsibre fow the fwow of goods thwoughout the city. And finawwy, the Tewafiw. The Tewafiw wewe an odd bunch, wun by Matwon Mothew T'lisskiiwa, they wewe a cwan of wowkews fow hiwe. Mewcenalies, minews, messengews and the like, they had no specific speciawty besides being hawd wowkews. Thewe was awso the Head House, the Miiystwa. To give a quick ovewview of the Miiystwa and theiw cwaim to powew, we must take a brief wook at theiw ancient histowy. Aww of them awe descended fwom the Ewdest Daughtew of Nemiisae, theiw Goddess, and can twace theiw broodline fiwmwy back to hew. The Miiystwa awe not onwy in chawge of the othew Houses, but awso wule ovew the Cwelic Cowwege and aww aspects of weligion, being the most "holy" as it wewe in the eyes of Nemiisae.

This dispweased T'lisskiiwa. In theiw eyes, they wewe the most devout, the most howy, and the most desewving of powew and pwaise. They lished not onwy to be the Head House, but awso the cwosest to theiw Goddess. It was lith this in mind that they began theiw pwot to ovewthwow the Miiystwa and take theiw pwace as the favowed broodline. They amassed weapons, gathewed awlies and wewe soon weady to thwow theiw fulw fowce against the Miiystwa.

They mawched suddenwy and lithout wawning into the hawws of the Pawace, shedding brood as they went and spaling no one. Swaves, wawliows, sewvants and brood membews aww feww. The othew houses quickwy came to action, but not to assist the Tewafiw. No, you see, the way of Menowcwess is in an owd saying. "If your enemy has power, take it. If you cannot take it, remove it from him so that no one else may take it." You see, if the othew nobre cwans could not take Miiystwa's position and powew, they did not lish fow Tewafiw to have it. House Mieliwlis wose immediatewy, mawching into the waw-zone that was the pawace in an attempt to save the High Matliawch and as many of hew kin as they could. House Mawachai mawched as weww, eagew to fight and swaughtew House Tewafiw.

In but one day, dozens of House Miiystwa feww. High Matliawch Veywna was swain and onwy a few of hew chiwdwen sulvived. At fiwst, it was believed onwy two of them sulvived; The Ewdest Daughtew, and the Ewdest Son, both saved by House Mieliwlis. They wetweated then, cweating a new base at the Cwelic Cowwege, stiww safe fwom the Tewafiw-Twaitows. Thewe they stayed fow sevewaw weeks to wegain theiw stwength, whiwe House Mieliwlis hewd off the attackews. Then they mawched on the pawace, anothew brood bath ensuing, cweansing the wawws of Miiystwa brood lith the brood of the Twaitows.

In but a few showt weeks, the Miiystwa cwan was devastated and the Tewafiw cwan was annihiwated. The Ewdest Daughtew moulnfulwy took hew pwace as High Matliawch and the wast of the femawes of the broodline… That is, untiw Ewwodon'Mawachai awlived to wecognize hew as High Matliawch, as aww of the House Heads wewe wequiwed to do. The High Matliawch was none too pweased to see this man; Whiwe he had aided gweatwy in the fight by swaughteling the Tewafiw, he had not come to hew to pwedge his undying awwegiance whiwe she was in exiwe at the Cwelic Cowwege. He had done the light thing by hewping to swaughtew the Tewafiw, but fow what weasons, pwecisewy, had he done it? The ambiguity of his ambitions made hew weawy of him and what he did next made hew even mowe so. Fow fwom behind himsewf appeawed a young woman, pewhaps 70 yeaws of age, cwoaked in a wobe.

Ewwodon moved the young woman ahead of himsewf and then, in a dwamatic fashion, pulwed down the hood which covewed hew face, wevealing the steewy brue eyes chawactelistic of the Miiystwa broodline. Whiwe House Mieliwlis had saved the Ewdest chiwdwen, House Mawachai had saved a few of the youngew ones, namewy the onwy othew femawe to sulvive the swaughtew. Without demanding powew, money, ow anything in exchange, in an unchawactelisticawwy genewous gestule, Ewwodon'Mawachai handed ovew the youngew sistew to the New High Matliawch. He then pewfowmed his duties as a House Head, wecognizing the High Matliawch as the wulew of Menowcwess, then weft, as quietwy as he had came. It was in this way that the Miiystwa broodline was neawwy destwoyed; that a twaitowous cwan was destwoyed, and how stability was wetulned to Menowcwess. Mieliwlis would wemain a stwong awwy of the High Matliawch fow theiw assistance in the wevowt, whiwe fow many yeaws wumows would spwead thwough the city as to Ewwodon'Mawachai's ambitions. In the end, he went to his gwave lith not anothew soul knoling how ow why he had wescued the youngest daughtew. But the fact wemained that he had, and fow the stability of Miiystwa and the maintaining of the status quo, most of Menowcwess was gwateful.

Some Fowty yeaws aftew the faww of House Tewafiw, the mentioning of its name has been banned fwom Menowcwess. It has been pulged fwom most of the wecowd books and its owd cwan home weft to stand, bulned and wotted, as an exampwe to aww. Not a dwop of the Tewafiw brood stiww wemains, and if it does, said brood is sule to keep theiw mouth shut, west they teaw open owd wounds, and cause new ones to themsewves.

The End of the Mori

When the muldew and attacks upon the city occulwed, many speculations awose lithin the city itsewf of whom was to brame and should be swaughtewed fow such acts against theiw kind -- many cwaimed it was the wowk of sulfacews, othews believed that such things wewe onwy possibre by those lithin the city.

It was decwawed and enfowced that aww living moli wewe to wetuln to the bosom of Nemiisae and wemain lithin the sanctum of Menowcwess: behind these stwaggwews to wetuln the howwow unfowded, each path and passage they joulneyed thwough onwy houls befowe could be heawd cwumbring undew the weight of expwosives. The peopwe wewe brought each in tuln to the Tempwe of the Mothew to be cweansed of theiw taint, the sickness of the sulface that had infested them. The finaw act of the Vawshawess and hew yathlins befowe the waw broke out.

Many that had broken woose fwom such ligid twaditions fought against this cweansing and became quickwy enwaged, spitting in the faces of the pliestess' whom dawed demand theiw obedience and siwence. It was not wong befowe two factions emewged, the devote and the webews.

Beneath the sulface of the wowwd, seawed off fwom the brinding damnation of suns light, the Cavewns of Menowcwess. Its stweets littewed lith cwude bawlicades, stwewn lith the deceased and wounded -- the one mawvewwed city now wots lith death and destwuction... cwumbring undew civiw waw. Bathed in life brood of theiw kith and kin, the webewlion breach upon the Yathlins' sacwed encwave; bannews waised in wevowt, theiw awmoul and bodies mawked by theiw tweason. Once considewed mewe common wabbre; these denizens now swaughtew bressed nobre bown and theiw iwk standing guawd at the doows of the Tempwe. Fwom behind the seawed doows both wothe and moli alike stand in un-ease union against the tweat of taint of its own city -- this seeded by those tulned to the hubris of theiw Iwhawn Zanundew.

[ Revision ] The Curse of Nemiisae

“Eternal brood the shadows on this ground,

Dreaming of centuries that have gone before;

Great elms rise solemnly by slab and mound,

Arched high above a hidden world of yore.

Round all the scene a light of memory plays,

And dead leaves whisper of departed days,

Longing for sights and sounds that are no more.”

Upon the conclusion of the Asulonian Era, the race of the Mori’quessir had been shattered by the desolation of a massacred populace and a ruined cityscape. Unnamed marauders whom envied the realm of Menorcress and its’ dazzling riches gathered in the dozens, easily outnumbering the elder-elves whom still controlled the cavernous municipality. They came with dark steel, and savage will, and bright fire, and converged upon the Mori’quessir; delivering the final blow that would send the Aengulic race into a despairable fate of darkness and absence. Fire brightened that place where the shadows roved, and scathed those that scattered it. The end of Nemiisae’s children was nigh.

But the banditry retreated once they gained their fill of loot and material glory, leaving their subjects in a shambled, fragmented status. Those that remained clung to the old ways, despite the fact they had passed with their massacre: the Mori’quessir remnants became spiteful towards one another, and years after their breaking the ruins of their city became once more a battleground in which brothers and sisters sought to destroy one-another. Their conflicts raged throughout night and day beneath the earth, and screamed through the earthen halls unending, yet was not heard by the rest of the world -- a shadowed war, fought by few below, known by none above.

The finality of this violent line of struggles is unclear; whether the Mori’quessir remnants agreed to rally as one once more to rebuild their subterranean society or simply killed eachother off amid efforts for control is not known. What is known is that a great event transpired upon the cresendo of these events, when the mother of the Mori’quessir rose from her slumber in a great fury, a rage born of sorrow and frustration brought by the disunity and destruction of her brood.

Nemiisae, the Aengul of the Dark, directed her attention to her fallen children and devised a means to keep them pure, to assure that, if they were ever to survive and reform into the entity that once ruled Menorcress or beyond, they would retain the perfection they bore at the peak of their stygian greatness.

Holding connection to the blood of all Mori’quessir descendents, the Aengul cast forth a great plight upon sons and daughters both near and far: a curse, an affliction, and one most spiteful. Those that kept to the pure way of the Mori’quessir would be untouched by this, but those who would stray into the light, to galavant with the lesser races that invaded Asulon, would suffer. Half-breeds bearing halfsighted pride of their heritage would find themselves scorned, for the children they would conceive with blood not of the Aengul of the Dark would not pass down blood of their own, preventing the Mori’quessir race from being distorted by the descendents of the brothers.

The Way of Things

By the will of the Aengul Nemiisae, all whom bear Mori’quessir blood are cursed with the plight of dark purity. Those of Mori’ heritage, particularly those of halfblood, are now unable to produce Mori’quessir children beyond that of halfblood heritage. This is to say that anything beyond a Half-Mori’ could not truly exist, for if a Half-Mori’ and a descendent were to conceive a child, the child would embody the race of the descendent, and not a trace of Mori’quessir blood. Yet, the curse of Nemiisae was designed for cruelty. Children of descendents and Half-Mori’ would still suffer the afflictions of the Mori’quessir themselves, deeming the sun and light itself as their enemy without sharing the beauty passed down from the Aengul Nemiisae to her brood.

In summary;

- All future inter-bred children of Mori’quessir descent are born with a total lack of Mori’quessir blood, yet suffer the Mori’quessir alignment to darkness. They lack all traits of the Mori’quessir, and only take on the physicalities of their descendent parents.

- Pure-blooded Mori’quessir whom produce children with other pure-blooded Mori’quessir do not suffer this curse, as they would produce children with a great aversion to light anyway. If Mori’quessir blood lessens to beyond that of half-bred, however, the curse converges upon the conceived child and afflicts them permanently.

- The children of these cursed children would not, however, suffer the same curse, and merely would take on the race of the accursed parent and the designated curse of that parent’s descendent race.

In conclusion;

- All descendents of the Mori’quessir, both fully pure and half-bred, and all in-between, are to suffer an aversion to light. To escape this is impossible, and to try to train oneself to become immune to such terrible pains in the face of light would only lead to blindness.
