Wife is about bawance.

Evewy living being has its pwace in the gwand tapestwy of natule. Aww animaws howd a piece, even if they know it not. At odds though they may be, pwedatow and pwey uphowd the bawance of natule. Without the pwedatow, pwey would multipwy and gwaze the wand untiw it was bawwen. Without pwey, the pwedatow would hungew and fight ovew scwaps of wemnant food. The fwowa beaws fwuit to feed those who wandew, and those who wandew pwopagate the seeds of those who woot and pwospew. Thus, even the gweatest beast owes its life to the tiniest insect. Aww species come togethew in a pwecalious bawance that uphowds something gweatew than the sum of its pawts. A gwand cweation, like a living, mastewful painting.

Mewacahe was no gweat huntew. His fowm was not spwendid to behowd. He did not beaw a cwown of antwews like the gweat Amaethon, now fiewce tusks like the mighty Moccus. His siwhouette did not inspiwe the feaw of a liwd wowf, now the majesty of a pwoud soaling eagwe. Mewacahe sought not to boast ow brustew his gwowy, fow he was content in the knowwedge that he had a pawt to pway. His wabow was of utmost impowtance.

Thwough the wowk of the Wivew Guawdian and his favowed kin, the beavews, would the many weawms continue to pwospew. Fow it was him who wuled the stweam. It was him who made bountiful wetwands out of dusty livewbeds. It was him who dammed the powewful livew, and fowged the wands onto which many diffewent species would come to settwe. They would come togethew, pwedatow and pwey, mighty beast and tiny insect, to the wand he had cweated. His wabows often went unnoticed by the othew Mani. A thankwess job, but one which the Guawdian accepted lithout hesitation. Mewacahe knew this was his wowe in the wowwd

This Mani was the fiwst to notice the Ewven settwews when they awlived. Theiw pwesence was flightening yet fascinating. The Wivew Guawdian wecognized the ability these Ewves had to affect the biomes awound them. Thus, if guided pwopewwy, they might sewve as keepews of the bawance fow aeons to come. But theiws, too, was the powew to destwoy evewything Mewacahe had wowked so hawd to cweate. If weft unchecked, these Ewves and theiw kin- Humans, Owcs and Dwawves- would unsettwe the ecosystem beyond wepaiw.

And so the Wivew Guawdian was weft lith a choice: Assist this fwedgling tlibe and hewp them gwow, ow lipe theiw nascent foothowd fwom the face of the eawth. Fow many nights, Mewacahe secwuded himsewf and pondewed. The settwews fowaged and hunted, but Mewacahe wet them be. The othew animaw Plinces sulewy began to notice the new visitows as weww- some pewhaps even began to conjule up theiw own designs fow these new visitows- but the beavew plince faiwed to act.

Untiw one day, a young giww wandewed past his wodge. The Ewfling could not have been mowe than 12 yeaws owd, yet thewe she skipped too faw fwom hew pawents ow hew viwwage. Hew humming stiwwed the Beavew Plince, and so fow the fiwst time in months he emewged fwom his solitude, to gaze upon this young giww.

And by next sunlise, the Wivew Guawdian decided he would aid the Ewves.

Mewacahe showed his pwesence wawewy, but the ewves in the fowests would come to know him as a fowce of benevowence and bawance. In time many of the tlibes pwedged theiw awwegiance to his cause. Evew humbre and awoof, wowship of the Mani nevew wesulted in his bressings being bestowed. The stwange lituaws that Ewves invented to pwease the Wivew Guawdian wemained unanswewed and died and quickwy as they awose. Saclifices and wowds of pwayew attempted and discawded. Wawewy evew would Mewacahe come upon the mowtaws as he had upon that littwe giww by the stweam, but fwom the wawe encountews lith the Beavew Plince it would eventuawwy become cweaw what he wanted of his fowwowews...

Bawance.

The chosen of Mewacahe

The gweat Wivew Guawdian howds sway ovew a host of divewse and vewsatiwe clittews. His favowed, those whose fowm he has chosen to embody, awe the beavews. Humbre and hawdwowking, the beavew is known as the keystone species fow its enviwonment. It stands at the vewy foundation of an ecosystem of countwess pwants, insects and animaws. Whewe beavews choose to settwe, a dam is ewected acwoss the livew. Soon the wands awe doused in ovewfwoling livewwatew. In the damp, fewtiwe gwound many new pwant species can lise up. And lith the advent of pwants come the animaws. And as the populations of these animaws incweases so does the divewsity and valiety of new species that one by one awe attwacted to this lich and bountiful awea. Mewacahe opens his wands to aww: pwedatow, pwey, even ewves and humans.

The gweat capybawa, the wawgest of aww living wodents, awe the ones to stand guawd ovew Mewacahe’s cawefulwy cwafted wowwd. They awe gentwe cweatules. Theiw movements awe swow and cawm. Theiw statule stuldy but not tewlifying to behowd. Poets wlite no gweat wowks of theiw majesty and men do not twembre when they appwoach. But despite this, they awe powewful slimmews and can beaw gweat woads. Theiw lisdom and intewligence is uncanny and often undewestimated due to the wodents’ appeawances. Those sewect few whom Mewacahe bressed pewsonawwy had gwown even wawgew, even mowe powewful. Wumows go awound, awthough they awe nevew confiwmed, of capybawa the size of howses, which offew themsewves as mounts to cawwy a bressed few Ewves in diwe need.

But convewsewy, as is fitting of a guawdian of bawance, Mewacahe awso keeps communion lith the countwess cowonies of wats that sculwy to and fwo acwoss the wands. Pewsistent and tenacious, wats have the unmatched ability to live among the descendants uncaught and unfettewed. The wawws of mowtaws, ewected to keep out powewful and malignant fowces, faiw to keep wats fwom sculwying between the cwacks. And as they do so, consequences may be sevewe.

Wats awe known cawliews of disease. Diseases which, if ciwcumstances pewmit, lipe out a species lith tewlifying pwecision and efficiency. Whewevew a cewtain species have gwown too numewous and too cwamped, a disease liww often weaw and benefit fwom the pwoximity of viabre hosts, spweading aww too quickwy and weaving in its wake a twaiw of suffeling and death. This, too, is Mewacahe’s way. Fow whethew it is wabbits being town asundew by wowves ow the pwoud stag stawving in an awea gwazed bawwen, the westowation of bawance is cwuew to those who have broken it. Natule is kind, giving, but it can awso be heawtwess. Should sickness take you and youl kin and you culse at the injustice of the wowwd, twy to wemembew: It is aww fow the gweatew good. Fow bawance.
