The Kharajyr, or simply Kha, is a race of digitigrade humanoid creatures sharing many biological traits with that of felines. They are covered from head to toe in fur with hair colour depending on one of the four subraces: the Kha'Pantera, a black-furred sleek being with a history in mastering the art of stealth; the Kha'Tigrasi, with its fur pattern being that of a tiger's, this Kharajyr is notably the more muscular, broad and tall; the Kha'Cheetrah, the smallest and fastest of the Kha with a light spotted coat; and finally the Kha'Leparda which is the jack of all trades but master of none, being the average on all Kharajyr aspects. The Kharajyr are the creations of the Daemon Metztli, and are the result of many failed experiments when the Daemon combined the being of humanoids with Ocelots - despite this, the Kharajyr as a culture fiercely worship the Daemon as a Goddess.

The Karakatuan Empire

The jungle lands of Vailor have been occupied by some Kharajyr for ages: they had constructed a mighty citadel and only had to wait for the rest of the Kha to arrive from the previous Realm. And arrive they did, to a new island, and new empire: Karaktua. Upon their new island, this time, respecting and utilizing the volcano for sacrifices rather than fearing and avoiding it, the Kharajyr thrived. They had much better protection, for war machines could not mount the sand outside their walls without sliding, and ballistae could be seen infromvarious places. The fertile land also provided species of plants previously undiscovered. It was in this place that the new age of priests came about as well: a magical resurrection, the ancient Sage Natayshi teaching the Priestess Ja’Sahra and the Priest Ja’Dato the ancient ways: Muun’Trivazja. They would go on to teach more students, and thus the revival of the ways of the ancient Kharajyr.

In this new land they would find many new beasts, creatures that were alien to even to the Descendant races, and as a result, it took time to adjust.

After having a long voyage across the seas of Athera, the Kharajyr finally reached the shores of the new land. The Kharajyr explored the new land, finding a perfect island paradise to set up their new home. This island was calld Ohlokhar, the Kharajyr had constructed many building, and soon afterwards a temple was made. The Kharajyr could finaly return to their old cultural ways. They were finaly left alone to do their own thing on their new island. Though this peace did not last long, for a new enemy had shown their face. Absyyl, known as the Sun God, was now their enemy. Sage Natayshi had a vision that Absyyl would come down to the Kharajyr, and all the races, as a one eyed wolf, spreading its fire onto all the cowering races below.

Culture

To those who are not familiar with it, Kharajyr culture can seem very barbaric, and indeed, alien. They are an intolerant, highly-religious society governed by religious figures under the dictator, called the Tlatlanni. They are a hardy race by nature, and they have very little sense of empathy towards creatures outside of their own culture. They are primarily hunter-gatherers, and it is not uncommon for Kharajyr to toy with their prey before slaying them. Despite their hunter-gatherer culture, it is not uncommon for them to set up farms, and fishing is an important source of food due to the proximity to the sea.

Lifespan

Although it can vary depending on the individual, the accepted age of maturity is around 15 years. Between the ages of one and ten, Kharajyr are referred to as ‘Kittens’. Their behavior is a mix between a normal kitten and a human child, often highly playful and disobedient. The development is split up into two stages, the first between ages one-five, and the second between ages six-ten. Between the ages of eleven and fifteen, Kittens become Cubs. At this age they are a little less playful, and are starting to mature, putting together sentences and learning skills that will help them in their Trials, a series of tests that all Kharajyr face at their coming of age.

Kha'Leparda

The most generic of the four subraces, the Leparda has not been seen to excel particularly in one specific area, but are more likely to practice in multiple. They are a light brown colour and have many spots covering their fur, or sometimes rings.

Notable Kha'Leparda are frequent, and have been seen in the past in roles such as a priest or priestess, the mighty Moonblades, or even a simple farmer to whom the food supply of the Kharajyr rely upon.

Kha'Cheetrah

The Cheetrah is fast and tends to be more golden in colour in contrast to their Leparda kin. They also have spots spread amidst their fur, but find themselves to be far more formidable sprinters, or even climbers.

Notable Kha'Cheetrah have mostly been warriors or hunters. However, there has never been a single Kharajyr whose occupation was bound by their subrace alone.

Kha'Pantera

The most intriguing to look at, the Pantera are the only Kharajyr to naturally and normally carry a black or dark fur colour. This Kharajyr is noted for its capabilities in stealth and thievery, considered the best among the subraces.

Notable Kha'Pantera have been among the Moonblades in order to act as assassins or even as pickpockets or information artists. They are particularly good at helping the Tlatlanni find out things that perhaps even his own ears do not pick up.

Kha'Tigrasi

Perhaps the most mighty of all of the Kharajyr, the Tigrasi is known for it's strength in battle and in pride. No other Kharajyr can naturally match the capabilities of a fully fledged arsenal that is the Tigrasi.

Orange in colour with striped fur and powerful muscular efficiency, these Kharajyr are usually chosen by Metztli as her elite guardians.

The Tlatlanni - Although not technically a subspecies in its own right, the Tlatlanni was blessed with a significantly unique appearance as he is descended from Metztli's first creation. The Tlatlanni and his descendants have been blessed with a gleaming white coat of fur. The Tlatlanni, being chosen by Metztli herself to lead the Kjharajyr as the figurehead of the Khalenwyr Empire, was believed to have been gifted with overbearing beauty and virtues in order to command the respect and admiration of his followers. The Tlatlanni has a muscular form, giving him great strength, yet still possessing speed and agility. The white furred gene is dominant within the Emperor's dynasty, meaning that all offspring produced with lesser Kharajyr possess white fur. But it will be rarer for a child of this offspring to have white fur as well, usually with a 35% chance.

Since the time the Tlatlanni bloodline met their end, the Kharajyr began falling apart. When the Tlatlanni Tla'Xerdun died, Metzlti used her powers to choose a worthy Kha to reborn as a Tlatlanni and restart the line again. The chosen Kha was transformed into a Tlatlanni through a painful process.

Kharajyr Maturity Development

Kittens:

Age one-five:

The average height is around 1’0” to 1’7”. These kittens will crawl around on all fours, and will not be in possession of weapons. They act much like young kittens, occasionally stealing some things, and other such actions. These kittens do not talk at all, nor do they understand much. They are often seen around their parent or guardian, and they usually very skittish and curious.

Age six-ten:

The average height is around 2’0” 3’2”. Occasionally they are able to walk on their two hind-legs, however, they are still young and it is difficult for them to do so. Usually, they will still not be seen running around with weapons, but they can now do larger tasks such as carrying food and other such things. They will be getting stronger at this point, although they are still much weaker than a fully grown Kha. The kitten will be focused on learning quite a bit, and will often seek out their guardians for guidance. However, they will also be a bit rebellious due to having been sheltered most of their life. At this age they will start to learn basic words, but will be incapable of making complete sentences. Cubs:

Age eleven-fifteen:

The average height is around 3’5”-4’8”. By this point, they are walking on their legs quite a bit, but every once in a while they’ll return to all fours. They are learning to form sentences and fight at this point, along with other tasks that will help them with the Trials. They become quite a bit more independent and their parents will be instructing them in more mature goals. They continue to gain in strength at this stage. A cub most prove its passage into adulthood by completing the Trials of Maturity. More details on these trials are found in the Karakatuan Empire page.

Mannerisms

Kharajyr are vain creatures, and are easily offended. An outsider may not know they've accidentally offended one until the Kha's claws pierce their chest. They have no love of failure, and never take being humiliated lightly. To verbally demean a Kharajyr would leave them feeling angry and hurt. A Kha would not take kindly to snide remarks about their feline form from the Descendant races, they see it as a blessing from their deity, Metztli. Tail pulling is incredibly rude when done by most. However, if it is between two Kharajyr, it could be seen as a sign of affection between mates or potential mates.

Music

Kharajyr are not very good singers but that does not mean music is not appreciated. They have many drums and basic flutes, as well as some string instruments that they use to compose rudimentary songs. Instead of singing, it is common for poetry to be recited.

Romance and Love

Although this form of courtship and marriage is typically only followed in the wealthier class, that does not prevent lower class Kharajyr from using it, nor does it force upper class Kha to follow it. No Kharajyr is forced to take an oath of solitude, not even the priests and priestesses of the Temple. In fact, all Kharajyr are encouraged to love. Kha are not feral creatures, they have risen above the basic "grow, reproduce, die" instincts. In fact, they have developed intricate tasks to follow these instincts. When a male Kharajyr falls in love, he will court the female with gifts and hunting trophies to show his prowess as a male. If the female shares a smile with him, he will speak to her. After years of conversation and courting, when the two have become intimate friends and have grown into proper adulthood, the male Kharajyr must give a ring to the female's father in order to show that he is suitable to marry her.

If the father likes the work of the male Kharajyr, he will grant them permission to marry, and a wedding will occur similar to that of many other races, containing the oaths and other such rituals. However, it will often also contain a sacrifice captured by the male to show the meaningfulness of the ceremony. To consummate their marriage, it is customary for the newly wed pair to bathe in the waters of the Temple, the sacred pool of Metztli.

There is an aspect of the Kharajyr romance system known as the metz’al. A rough translation of the word would mean "life mate", and that is exactly what it is. Kharajyr are quick to call their mate metz’al, and, if they spot someone destined to be their metz’al, they often identify one another upon first glance.

Kharajyr CAN NOT REPRODUCE WITH DESCENDANTS.

Language and Accent

Although Kharajyr do have an ancient language, many have forgotten it. Some have relearned it from the sages, but not many. In spite of this, there are still some words that all Kharajyr know: Pronouns

Patta – Father

Munna – Mother

Muuna – Moon mother (Metztli)

Metz’al – Life mate/spouse.

Bunn – Wife

Munn – Husband

Per – Son

Maut – Daughter

Per’ta – Brother

Mau’na – Sister

Courtesy Words

Sa’vi – Hello/Goodbye

Mul’ta – Thank you.

Tra’kul – You’re welcome.

As to the accents of the Kharajyr, they sound out the words very similar to how they are spelled, rather than how they are normally pronounced, and they will often include ‘w’s and double up on ‘u’s in order to give it a more organic and tribal feel. They all speak in third person, addressing themselves by their own names, or an appropriate pronoun. For example, a Kha named Do'Kuta may say, “Do’Kuta dawssa nawt appruv uffa yawr akshuns” (Do’Kuta does not approve of your actions). NOTE: From here on down, the wiki is outdated.

Magic and Religion

Magic is an entity relatively unknown to the majority of Kharajyr society, who both fear and admire its use. Those who use magic are considered to be blessed by Metztli herself and are often adopted into the Temple, to serve as Priests to Metztli. The Priesthood hold much power over the masses as, along with the Aelkos, they are responsible for undertaking the sacrificial rituals that fuel their deity Metztli. In addition to sacrificial duty.

Magic is limited within Kharajyr society to only the Priests.
