Biography

Early Life

James was born on 1700 F.A. and was firstly discovered abandoned on the steps of the church of a tiny village in Kaedrin. He was adopted by Richard and Margaret Blackely; Richard was a local butcher, and the couple owned a nearby farm as a side business. In 1770 James left his village and made for Helena, the then capital of Oren, where he assumed the name James Chapel. Immediately upon arriving he met Yuliya Styrne, who recruited him for a small part in the first performance of Lorin + Augustus. From there he would be deeply involved in all her plays going forward either on stage or as assistant director. Yuliya was physically frail and James was a constant companion to her. For some time they shared an apartment in Helena.

At this point, James started a newspaper that ran for one issue, ran an underground fightclub that ran for one night, and got himself appointed to be the Helena's cultural director, in which position he has no recorded accomplishments.

Joining the NGS

James became acquainted with Tanith and Icroth Vursur (they had not been married yet) and began attending NGS meetings because he enjoyed their company. Despite going on no adventures and producing no scholarship, he was promoted to the NGS Circle and eventually made head of the Personnel Relations Department. He was adopted by Tanith and Icroth and became very close friends to Celestine Herbert and her daughter Eliza Wittenbach.

After the death of Yuliya Styrne he tried and failed to finish her production of The Temptation of St. Julia, and when the NGS declined he disappeared for the space of several decades.

Disappearance and Resurgence

After the death of Yuliya Styrne he tried and failed to finish her production of The Temptation of St. Julia, and when the NGS declined he disappeared for the space of several decades.

When he returned, he claimed to have been traveling far past the eastern edge of Almaris and to have learned mystical knowledge from a dying order of Wonks. He assumed the name Friend, joined the Vailu Valmiran, put the NGS into abeyance by starting the Celestial Trust, lived in Nor'asath, moved to Petra to become their poet laureate and run the Petrine Public Library, became the Petrine Traditio Custodes and is now working on bringing the NGS back.
