Elaine Hartraft lived a simple life up until her death at the age of a 112 in the final years of the first era, dying 15 years before the exodus to the continent of Almaris. She had two children, a twin son and daughter, one of whom died a few years after her mother during a laborous childbirth, where she was named after a distant ancestor: Mary-Jane Keint. Forcing Maryam to be raised by the closest of the kin, her uncle. A strict man, who always seemed to be indifferent toward her as she grew up. As the likeness was uncannily similar to his deceased sister, the pain was too much for him. And yet he made sure never to put his anger out on her, instead he would join a local militia and go on to serve a distinguished career for nearly ten years before he was wounded in the leg, which wasn't properly treated in time, causing a severe festering, where he was eventually seen by the local physician, who in an attempt to save him amputated his leg. Unfortunately it was too late to save her uncle. He passed away later that day from complications with the amputation. And so the mantle passed onto the youthful child,Maryam Hartraft.
