Chicken refers both to the animal that is commonly found wild and domesticated throughout the world and the meat that can be obtained when slaughtered.

Animal

Chickens are non-aggressive animals that are commonly found throughout Anthos. Small and winged, they are able to dart around quickly and safely fall long distances. Often found living in the Wilds, they can be easily domesticated with seeds and kept to be bred. Chickens are a source of several important items. Feathers, used to make quills and arrows are plucked from chickens. Chickens also lay eggs, which can be hatched to create another chicken or used as an ingredient for baking cakes. Chicken meat can also be eaten once a chicken is slaughtered.

Food

Chicken meat can typically be found on the corpses of most chickens. Most commonly the breast or legs of a chicken will be cut off. Eating this meat raw often leads to food poisoning or Grish. If cooked the meat becomes far more palatable and will sustain more hunger than many other foods.

History

Chickens have been found in great numbers throughout all major and minor realms. The Elves and Kharajyr are most likely to keep large flocks of chickens, although no race will turn them down. In Elysium the number of chickens was higher than had ever been recorded, and in some places it was impossible to walk without stepping on birds. Although no reason is known for this phenomenon, it is commonly assumed that upon arrival to the island there was already a large chicken population that was bred by those arriving to provide a quick and easy source of meat.

Notable Chickens

One of the most notable chickens is the Holy Chicken II of the Dwarves. This chicken is the direct offspring of the Holy Chicken, and is believed to house the soul of Grand King Indago.
