It is said that if one encounters a source of light in the dense fog, do not stop and wait for help to arrive, for you will be met with iron claws and the shrieks of a Boggen. Do not turn back to help anyone lost within the fog, for they are lost for sure in the labyrinth that the Boggens have created. The origins of these mythical creatures are unclear, though warnings and myth did spawn around taverns everywhere, warning traders of the fog that killed. A group of magicians escorting a convoy through the forests leading to the Kingdom of Renatus finally dispelled the illusionary fog, bringing their magic against their might in a fierce clash that left the creatures dead to be studied.

Origin

Description

At a towering height of 6'10, only the orcs would be a match for them in size and height. Their eyes and face seem twisted and wrinkled like tree bark engraved in flesh, in varying shades of grey. They have sharp claws extending to 6 inches, capable of slicing through most leather effortlessly, although good steel will stop their path. They have no hair anywhere on their body, requiring natural and man-made objects to shield themselves from the sun. An organic gem pulses with their life in the center of its chest, dimming upon death.

These creatures are generally found at battlefields or any location with shallow graves or bodies left out to rot so that they may feast, or in in swamp-like locations and areas where fog can occur naturally to shield their sensitive skin.

Behavior

Boggens are deceptive pack hunters, alluring lost travelers in the fogs they can create. They separate and try and lure you to follow the eerie illumination they form within their chest cavity towards their pack.

Despite their sharp claws, they normally never care to utilize them, driving their victims mad and lost within the foggy illusions they create. Quick thickening fogs are an alarming calling card of these creatures, there is also rumor their illusionary prowess could out do an Illusionist, but that is merely a tale.

Weaknesses

Please note: The following information is scarcely known. Do not metagame to know this information unless directly informed in-character.

As they rely on deception to weaken and instill fear into their prey, someone confident in their skills and willpower are able to best them when they eventually come lunging through the fog. Mages are able to dispel their fogs with concentration, as long as there are not too many Boggen present. Their gems embedded in their chest represent their lifeforce, destroying it would cause them to die instantly.
