Blaze

The Blaze is a natural creature found most commonly in the Nether that has also been found on the surface of several realms. Blazes use the methane gases found only in the Nether to float about much like that of a Ghast or balloon. They use their spiraling appendages to control and steer their haphazard movement. Their wheezing noises they often produce is the expelling unused gases from their mouth and the inhaling of new gases. This process is what allows them to float. When threatened they will often use their methane gases found in their bladders and a rod commonly known as a blaze rod to ignite their methane and cause violent explosions of flaming gas. This is known to be their natural form of self-defense when troubled.

Blazes attack by throwing three fireballs per each attack. This makes them extremely dangerous in battle, as they can cause quick damage to their enemy and surrounding landscape. They also have the ability to hover above the ground, which can put them out of range of swords and axes, making the use of bows and arrows necessary. When killed their corpses are frequently found to contain blaze rods, which can be used in alchemy. They also may drop other strange items that are used to keep them afloat.

Environment

Blazes were originally found in the Nether in which they would inhale and exhale gases. These natural gases found in the Nether are said to be what cause any who do not have immunity to it to slowly suffocate from the lack of clean oxygen. They were not often freely scene floating about the Nether but deep in naturally formed caves. A source of Blazes can be found often where a great amount of this gas accumulates. With the correct temperature gas propulsion on rare occasion a Blaze will form. In the environment of Aegis they are not said to have thrived near as much as they once did in the Nether. Instead Undead would summon them in battle to help catch flame to the surrounding area. They were only very rarely documented in Asulon and not yet seen in Anthos, which some cite as proof that the Undead are no longer a threat. In Aegis, Blazes only existed during the day when they were in the sunlight. By night, they turned into Zombie Pigmen. This behaviour was not noted when Blazes were recorded in later realms.

Feeding

The Blaze, like the Slime, feed off of gases. They inhale and exhale these gases creating the wheezing sound often heard from them. This form of “breathing” while feeding has caused them to lack a proper mouth and more so a simple nose like organ located where their eyes are also located.

Anatomy

Gas Bladder This “sack” found in the middle region of the blaze acts as a lung of sorts to inhale and exhale the gases it requires to move about. It is bag like in shape and is attached to the blaze rod organ located in the frontward part of the organ.

Eye Sockets The eyes are said to have no real sight to them instead they see via heat waves in which they use to locate more sources of gas. Since they seem to lack a proper brain they use their eyes and will always move towards the greater amount of gas. Since they see in this heat type fashion when they come across another living life form they will see the intense amount of heat it gives off. In a violent reaction will then then proceed to use the blaze rod organ.

Blaze Rod This is one of the single most signature factors of the Blazes’s body structure. Attached to the gas bladder when their heat sensing eye sockets pick up intense amounts of heat they it will react with the gas bladder sending a massive amount of methane into the blaze rod and with the explosive properties of the blaze rod shoot out a methane ball of fire which will ignite anything is comes into contact with.

Appendages Like a rib cage these boney like body parts protect the gas bladder by spinning violently. If any step too close to this the methane will ignite through the gas bladder itself and make the entire blaze catch fire making it impossible for a disturbance to step too close. These appendages are also used to steer the balloon like movement of the blaze and way it down so it will not flout up into the air and instead like ballast of a hot air balloon stay close to the ground.
