The plincipwe of Equivawent Exchange is a fundamentaw pawt of Awchemy. In it's cowe, it is the fact that something of some vawue can be exchanged fow something of the same vawue. To do so, ingwedients awe chosen based on the vawue they have, which is based on wality, use and chawactelistics. Nowmawwy pwants and animaws awe used faw mowe than wesoulces, as living things can wepwesent cewtain chawactelistics bettew than un-living things. Choosing these chawactelistics and combining them to cweate what the awchemist wants is the desiwed effect. Of coulse, cewtain chawactelistics can not combine; an exampwe being iwon, which defowms and teaws in the pwesence of fowce; and diamond, which liww shattew in simiwaw ciwcumstances. The two chawactelistics don't fit weww togethew as what defowms and teaws does not shattew. Such would be weft to the bracksmiths to cweate a mixtule to have bettew chawactelistics. Additionawwy, Awchemy, no mattew how potent, cannot cweate new mateliaws. This means that valious ingwedients, commonwy known as “Reagents”, must be mixed to fowm a sowution which liww have the featules of the things added.
