A song of war, sang by soldiers across the realm, usually as a marching song. The song tells of a young man who was rallied to protect his nation from the forces of the undead, this results in his demise.
- He was just a rookie soldier and he surely shook with fright,
- He checked off his equipment and made sure his shield was tight;
- He had to sit and listen to those awful undead roar,
- "You ain't gonna fight no more!"
(CHORUS)
- Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
- Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
- Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
- he ain't gonna fight no more!
- "Is everybody alright?" cried the Sergeant looking up,
- Our Hero feebly answered "Yes," and then they stood him up;
- He jumped into the fiery brawl, their shield-wall aligned,
- And he ain't gonna fight no more.
(CHORUS)
- He counted long, he counted loud, he waited for the horn,
- He felt the wind, he felt the cold, he felt the others mourn,
- Their cavalry then all spilled out and wrapped around their foes,
- And he ain't gonna fight no more.
(CHORUS)
- The arrow shot into his leg, and axes cracked his shield,
- A big Ghoul’s claws came in and pulled around the sword he’d wield;
- This caused him to be downed; then he fell toward to the ground.
- And he ain't gonna fight no more.
(CHORUS)
- The days he'd lived and loved and laughed kept running through his mind,
- He thought about the girl back home, the one he'd left behind;
- He thought about the clerics, and wondered what they'd find,
- And he ain't gonna fight no more.
(CHORUS)
- The carriage was on the spot, horses were running wild,
- The clerics were nowhere to see, ran off as bodies piled,
- It had not been a week at least since last a fight was lost,
- And he ain't gonna fight no more.
(CHORUS)
- It hit the wound, the sound was "SPLAT" his blood went spurting high,
- His comrades they were heard to say "A hell of a way to die!"
- He lay there rolling round in the welter of his gore,
- And he ain't gonna fight no more.
(CHORUS)
(slowly, solemnly; about half the speed of the other verses)
- There was blood upon the armor, there were brains along the route,
- Intestines were a'dangling from his broken guardsman suit,
- He was a mess, they picked him up and poured him from his boots,
- And he ain't gonna fight no more
- Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
- Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
- Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
- And he ain't gonna fight no more!
