The War of the Beards (High Imperial: Bellum Barbarorum), otherwise known as the Fourth Frostbeard Rebellion (High Imperial: Nani Bellum Civile), was a war between the dwarf kingdoms of Kaz'Ulrah and Urguan. After years of living in shame after losing the Throne War, the Frostbeards of New Jornheim and their ally clans banded together and established the Kingdom of Kaz'Ulrah, a direct rival of the Grand Kingdom of Urguan. Within five years, tensions between Urguan and Kaz'Ulrah reached a boiling point and the two sides declared open war. After five years of bitter war, the Grand Kingdom of Urguan was conquered and dissolved for the first time in it's history, and the Kingdom of Kaz'Ulrah took the mantle of Dwarven Kingdom.

Prelude

Following their independence from the Grand Kingdom of Urguan the Frostbeard Clan, alongside their Blackaxe allies swiftly shored up New Jornheim's defenses, where they set about creating the skeleton of a new Dwarven nation, one led by a sole Monarch and his line, and one that was independent of lethargy and blatant corruption. In 1626, with the Goldhand and Blackaxe Clan's present, the Kingdom of Kaz'Ulrah was created. The colors of this new Kingdom were decided to be black, blue and yellow, representative of each Clan present for it's creation, and the assembly of Dwarves approved their first High King to be Verthaik II Frostbeard. Within a few years, the Kingdom was on the upturn and was slowly beginning to rival the Grand Kingdom of Urguan in population, and even acquired a new clan, the Silverveins. As the Kingdom of Kaz'Ulrah continued to acquire power, it became apparent to all that a conflict would soon erupt between Urguan and Kaz'Ulrah and that it was only a matter of time.

Due to the Silvervein Clan being born out of an Urguan Clan, the Stonemaces, it was partially split. The vast majority of the Clan was loyal to the Kingdom of Kaz'Ulrah - however, the founder of the Clan, Throri Stonemace refused to join his kin in New Jornheim. One day, whilst in Kal'Omith, the Clan Father of the Silvervein Clan, Edel Silvervein and his private entourage of Silverveins was meeting with Throri to find a middle ground both sides could agree upon. After much deliberation it was decided that Throri would come to New Jornheim to stand trial. However, just as they were all about to step onto the boats back to New Jornheim, Throri changed his mind and fled to Kal'Omith and told the guards he had been kidnapped. The Grand Marshal of the Urguan Legion, Frerir Irongrinder quickly came to the boats where he found the Silvervein entourage and sent his Legionnaires to attack the unarmed group. They were beaten and left for dead, barley returning home to New Jornheim.

Upon hearing of what had happened, High King Verthaik II Frostbeard was enraged, and quickly issued a Denouncement of Urguan, demanding that the Kingdom of Kaz'Ulrah be paid if Urguan wished to maintain the peace they had. His demands were met by a group of Urguanites who arrived to New Jornheim to arrange a meeting which would take place in the Cloud Temple. At the Cloud Temple meeting, the Urguan side wished to clear Frerir's name and demanded that Edel Silvervein hold a truth rune and say that he did not enter the city to capture Throri, but that Throri invited him. The truth rune turned out to be broken and as a result, it was agreed upon that an honor duel would be held to decide who the gods favored. If Edel won, Kaz'Ulrah would be given Throri and a sum of minas. If Frerir won, Kaz'Ulrah would redact it's denouncement. The duel turned out to be one of the biggest upsets in modern Dwarven history.

Edel, well known for his writing skills, but not his fighting skills defeated the Marshal of Urguan, Freir Irongrinder. The signs were clear, the Brathmordakin favored Kaz'Ulrah over Urguan in this conflict. As the group awaited the Grand King Zahrer Irongrinder to pay his dues, he began to stammer and try and find an excuse. He was given little time to spin a story as the entire group, befall him and tied him up, sending him to the Warnation of Krugmar atop a mule. Still angry they had not be reimbursed, the Kingdom of Kaz'Ulrah issued a grudge against the Kingdom of Urguan. If a sum of minas, alongside Throri Stonemace and a set of carabarum armor was not delivered to New Jornheim within three stone days, then Kaz'Ulrah would declare war on Urguan.

As was expected, Urguan ignored the missive and as a result, war was declared. Wishing to make the first move, High King Verthaik II Frostbeard called upon his Orc allies, and anyone else who would answer his call. Due to Oren joining Urguan's side, Norland and Santegia quickly joined Verthaik's side. Within a year, a massive army was amassed, and Verthaik convinced his kin, Galdryn Frostbeard to swap on Urguan and allow Verthaik a fort from which to assault Kal'Omith.

Impact

A stunning Coalition victory, led by High King Verthaik II Frostbeard, forced the Orenian and Urguanian forces to retreat further back into their lands. Such was the hurry of their retreat that they even had to abandon several forts along the way to fortify their capital of Alban. This allowed Coalition forces to circumvent various forts along the way and get closer to their true goal; Urguan's capital of Kal'Omith.
