The Serheim Crusade, also called the Saint Caius Crusade by more devout Canonists, is an ongoing War between the Church of the Canon, The Lectors of Owyn, The Paladins of Xan, The Canonist Princes, and the Queendom of Serheim. The Conflicts first started between the Paladins from the order of the golden lion and the forces of the Queendom of Serheim with their clases during 84 S.A. However, the war would not start in earnest until 10 years later when raiders believed to be from Serheim harassed the countryside of the Harvest Confederation and its citizens, which prompted High Pontiff Pontian IV to make an official call for a Crusade at the behest of the Lectorate of Owyn. Almost the entirety of Canondom answered the call to arms with even common citizenry taking up arms.

Prelude

The first conflict started long before the calls of a crusade first rose, back in the 84th year of the Second Age. Information had made its way to the Order of the Golden Lion, A Paladin Order run by the keeper, Alatáriel of Itnan. It was a mistake that she received this information however one mistake is all it will ever take.. Wasting no time Alatariel and a few of her paladins rode to the base of the Serheim. Upon arrival, they were met by archers peeking over the walls along with the Barrowlord of the Fifth Synod, Astark. But least of all, the Queen of Serheim herself; Eira. Words were exchanged, then arrows as the battle had begun. The Paladins knew they were not a match for the darkspawn and mages hurling spells at them from the wars in their current situation, using the horses they brought the keeper ordered a retreat. Sensing the upper hand Queen Eira and the Barrowlord Astark ordered their men from the walls in order to chase down the paladins, victory within her grasp. Some of the men shifting into massive werebeasts, felling trees and crushing them. However, it was naught to be for once he charged the Order, they would wheel around and charge there would be pursuers' however they only managed to mortally wound the Barrowlord’s vessel with a lance of sapphire lightning alongside a mighty execution of the Long Arm wielded by Feanor Sylvaeri, one of the paladins. As the battle raged on for hours it would be clear that no winner would be declared on this day, both sides retreating to lick their wounds with the only death of the battle being the vessel of the Barrowlord, with the Queen completely unscathed.

This would not be the first or last time the Paladins of Xan and the Forces of Serheim would do battle, only the first, the first battle of a great crusade.
(Post about the battle made by Valanor, do not meta.)

Skirmishes, Battles, and Sieges

Timeline

  • 94 S.A.
    • The Harvest Confederacy would suffer from multiple small raids and attacks by the Serheim forces resulting in numerous deaths.
    • The Lectorate, tired of all the raids by 'darkspawn' would have their leader, Arch-Lector Danzen release a letter declaring a crusade against the Serheim, in it, he would make a request to the High Pontiff, Pontian IV of the Church of the Canon. Asking him to join in on the holy crusade. [1]
    • Upon hearing the call put out by the Lectorate, the order of the Golden Lion would declare their support for such a crusade.[2]
    • After hearing the call put out by the Lectorate, High Pontiff, Pontian IV would release his own missive compelling all good Canonists to take up the cross and join the crusade with the Pontiff himself leading the charge. [3]
    • Heeding the call of the pope, The Duke of Vidaus, Mikhail var Ruthern would release a missive declaring his support.[4]
    • Karl III, the King of Hanseti-Ruska hearing the calls of the pontiff would partake in a private ceremony with Pontian IV in which a red cross would be drawn upon his breastplate and his vow to the pontiff to not remove the armor until the Schiem was vanquished, officially joining the crusade. A missive would be released later detailing the ceremony and encouraging the people of Hanesti-Ruska to follow their king and the Pontiff into battle. [5]
    • Cesar I, Viceroy of Hyspia and vassal of Haense, declares his people's support of the Crusade and brings the Viceroyalty of Hyspia into the war alongside their Haeseni overlords. [6]
    • The Barony of Velen, a vassal under Celia'nor, declares its support for the Church and the Crusade. [7]
    • Fredrick I, the Prince of Sedan released a missive, declaring his support for the Church and the Crusade. [8]
    • John I, The King of Balian released a missive, declaring his support for the Church and the Crusade. [9]
    • The "Dark God Malik" released a missive allowing the Queendom of Serheim, to march with the Greed Hand Company. [10]
    • During a visit by the High Pontiff, Pontian IV to the Principality of Sedan in order to baptize the Grandson of Frederick I, Prince of Sedan, an agent of the Serheimian would make an attempt on the life of the Pontiff. However, the arrow fired by the assailant would not find its mark on High Pontiff, Pontian IV, instead piercing Frederick I, Prince of Sedan in the back of his head, killing him instantly as he attempted to save the High Pontiff's life.
    • The An-Gho, Prince of the Nephilic Azdrazi released a missive saying, the Azdrazi will join the crusade against the Serheim. However, this raises questions amongst the crusaders on whether the azdrazi will be accepted into the fold or rejected by the canonist princes and the Church of the Canon who have a very negative history with the azdrazi. [11]. Such is further reinforced by one of the lectors soon after putting out a missive warning against the azdrazi [12]
  • 95 S.A.
    • After a meeting between the church of cannon, the azdrazi, and the paladins. The Pontiff denounces both the azdrazi and the paladins, believing neither of them to be truly canonist. In response to this act, Keeper Alatariel Athna of the golden lions writes to her people to warn them of the church's actions. This act would reveal cracks within the ranks of the crusaders, and, result in the paladins no longer aiding the crusade and instead going on their own expeditions.
  • 96 S.A.
    • Hannes of Acre Steps down as the baron of Acre, allowing his successor to take the reigns of the harvest confederacy.
    • Due to a failed raid on Balian by the new baron of Acre, as well as threats from all other canonist nations and the new baron of Acre seemingly vanished. The Harvest Confederacy dissolves and in its place arises The United Kingdom of Aaun and the Commonwealth of the Petra. Neither of the new nations would pledge themselves to the crusade, instead choosing to focus on rebuilding their nations from the ground up.
  • 97 S.A.
    • After many years, no progress was made on the side of the crusaders, the forces of the queendom seeming to have gone into hiding for now.
  • 98 S.A.
    • No action on either side.
  • 99 S.A.
    • The forces of the Queendom successfully manage to hide out for two years and tensions rage between the newly created Kingdom of Aaun, The Commonwealth of Petra, The Kingdom of Haense, and the Kingdom of Balian. The Serheim ends in a Statement as neither side is able to inflict a final blow.
