The Hyspian Schism, also known as the Hyspian Civil War was a major event in Hyspian history that saw House Altamirano led by Francisco Altamirano, known as the White Hyspians, and the Kingdom of Hyspia led by Antonio de Rivera, known as the Red Hyspians, enter open conflict with one another.

Skirmishes, Sieges, and Battles

Timeline

  • 9 SA
    • King Antonio de Rivera converts to the Red Faith and removes Francisco Altamirano from his position as regent.
    • Enraged by the Conversion and removal of his title, Francisco Altamirano rallies his family and supporters and leaves for Osanora a month after.
    • Francisco Altamirano sends a letter to High Pontiff Owyn III accusing Antonio of mistreating his followers and calling for his excommunication.
    • Antonio learns of the letter and declares House Altamirano to be in open rebellion.
  • 10 SA
    • In the Excommunication of Briev, the High Pontiff excommunicates King Antonio and implies that he should be removed from power.
    • Enraged by the excommunication, Antonio takes a force of 400 men to Osanora to confront the Altamiranos in what becomes known as the Confrontation at Osanora.
    • Minor inconsequential skirmishes occur between both Factions in the following months, often in the lands of Sutica.
  • 11 SA
    • Minor skirmishes occur, neither side wishing to commit to a full-scale battle in order to prevent the intervention of larger powers. There are no major diplomatic or militaristic actions taken throughout the year.
  • 12 SA
    • The Barony of Cartagena is formed in Sutica, its keep being used as a base of operations for White Hyspia.
    • Carlos Mendez, Lord of House Mendez, is convinced by Francisco Altamirano to join White Hyspia. This enrages Antonio, who confronts Carlos. This confrontation would not lead to anything significant, and Carlos would depart for the south shortly afterwards.
  • 13 SA
    • Carlos Mendez convinces one of Antonio's soldiers to attempt to assassinate him, but Antonio is able to single-handedly subdue the assassin. The assassination plot is pinned on the Holy Orenian Empire due to the assassin also being a member of the Imperial State Army. The Empire does not confirm nor deny this accusation due to the fear of involving the Kingdom of Norland and the Iron Accord.
    • Minor skirmishes occur between Commander Jerrito Mendez and the White Hyspians. None of the skirmishes cause anything significant.
  • 14 SA
    • Gustaven Von Halsfield enters the service of King Antonio, pledging his support to the Red King.
  • 15 SA
    • Minor skirmishes occur, Gustaven sends out multiple scouts to try and root out Francisco Altamirano.
    • While staying within Oren, Francisco is located by Gustaven. Without King Antonio's knowledge, they begin plotting to catch Francisco in the open and capture him.
    • A contingent of Red Hyspians led by Gustaven manage to catch Francisco off-guard while he and a small escort are strolling around Ostradt. This confrontation quickly spirals into the only major battle of the war, the Battle of Ostradt. Francisco is successfully captured by the Red Hyspians and is brought to Nueva Tierra.
    • After a few days of captivity, Francisco Altamirano is executed by Antonio de Rivera, leading to an outraged Kingdom of Haense to call for Antonio's head, as Francisco was recently made a cardinal of the Church of the Canon.
    • Antonio I of Hyspia is killed by Caedric I of Norland in a brief duel orchestrated by Caedric so that Antonio is not executed via hanging.
  • 16 SA
    • With both original leaders of the conflict dead, Sofia I, Antonio's widow, and Carlos Mendez begin discussing a permanent Cease-fire. After a month of negotiations, the two leaders come to a conclusion and the War is ended in the Treaty of Osanora
