The Amaethea War (Ancient Elven: Ignesaer Amaethae'ito) was a small war between the Princedom of Elvenesse and the Anti-Elvenesse Alliance consisting of the Free Company of Camlannen, Krugmar, and Haelun'or. The estimates of casualities range at around 200 Elvenessi personnel and civilians, and 0 Anti-Elvenesse Alliance members. The Alliance suffered 0 casualties because they employed guerilla tactics and focused on applying extraneous psychological pressure to the capitol city with the use of impromptu raids, road patrols, and fines imposed upon Elvenessi citizens and personnel.

Timeline

13 S.A.

  • Vulen Calithil of House Ithelanen is slain extrajudicially and his body is returned to Camlannen Keep by Exarch Evar'tir Oranor and Hareven Lorenthus to his father Kairn Calithil.
  • Kairn Calithil of House Ithelanen released a denunciation over the murder of his son Vulen called Denunciation of the Murderers Frolicking in the Elvenessi Peninsula, 13 S.A. The document expressed Kairn's intent that the murderer Laetranis ap Tahorran be turned over to his own mercy, and that were it not to happen he would march upon the Elven capitol of Amaethea. The decree also expressed that all factions and organizations within the city that declared express neutrality would be spared from fines, raids, and war-time mutilation.
  • The Crown of Elvenesse does not respond to the first denunciation of Year 13, S.A.
  • The Free Company of Camlannen spearheaded by Kairn and House Ithelanen marched to Amaethea and roamed the countryside putting the city on lockdown. The Elvenesse Sentinels maintain order within the city and the city remains on lockdown as the Free Company of Camlannen marched through the countryside unhindered.
  • The forces of Camlannen return briefly to the keep to hold final funeral rites for Vulen Calithil. Exarch Cullas Sylvaeri of Elvenesse arrived to pay his respects and notified Kairn that Laetranis ap Tahorran, the killer, wished to duel him to resolve the blood feud. In a fury, Kairn is quoted as saying, "Duel? If he were to duel somebody, it should have beem my son. My flesh and blood. And what did he do? He stabbed an unarmed man through the visor. Tell him that unless he presents himself to me at my discretion, I will be maiming his own relatives." After Vulen's body was burned, two Oathblades named Taal and Eirosan showed up to Camlannen Keep. Tensions between both parties escalated and the Kairn and the Free Company arrested the two men after a verbal confrontation. Eirosan attempted to stab one of the residents of Camlannen during his arrest and Kairn responded by decapitating him before the Throne of Malin in the Great Hall in retaliation.
  • The Free Company of Camlannen marched a month later to meet with Rex Zhot'Rax and negotiate an unconventional alliance to punish the Princedom of Elvenesse. The Rex Zhot and Saneyir Kairn agreed to marshal their forces together, and the Rex Zhot granted him a parcel of land to erect a small fortress from which to organize guerilla operations against the Princedom of Elvenesse. It is believed this unconventional alliance was made possible by the attempted killing of Rex Zhot'Rax by Elvenesse Sentinels a few years earlier when he was inside of their city.
  • An Elvenesse citizen harassed and assaulted Sohaer Othelu Orrar of Haelun'or. Disturbed, the Sohaer believed she intended to assassinate him and released a denunciation himself calling for the Princedom of Elvenesse to do diplomacy and explain themselves. The document was entitled Denunciation of Elvenesse for the Attempted Assassination of the Sohaer of Haelun'or.
  • The Crown of Elvenesse does not respond to the second denunciation of Year 13, S.A. The Haelun'orians join the Anti-Elvenesse Alliance.
  • Rex Zhot'Rax of Krugmar captured Lord Diplomat Telemnar of Elvenesse and cut off his ears during the coronation of the King of Haense. The Haense guards watch and allow it to happen, and the Rex takes the elf's ears as a trophy.
  • Operation Scourge commenced and Kairn Calithil and Kiljaerys ap Iarwaïn and their men take to the roads and issue numerous confrontations with the locals. A Taliame'onn, one of the relatives of the Elvenessi national who the Anti-Elvenesse Alliance believed attempted to assassinate Sohaer Orrar, was stabbed through the skull and the carcass was left as bait for the Elvenessi sentinels during their patrols. Kairn killed Elros Silma as well as he tried to alert the Sentinels to their encampment in the local woods, and the body was burned. Numerous Elvenessi citizens and visitors paid a toll to move past and enter the city, and the capital city of Amaethon remained on lockdown.
  • In response to ongoing conflict within his territories, the High Prince of Elvenesse Feanor Sylvaeri met with Kairn Calithil at neutral ground at the port in the Druidic Grove. The two met and Kairn made his demand in person that Vulen's killer, Laetranis ap Tahorran, be turned over to the Anti-Elvenesse Alliance and that the Rex of Krugmar be paid tribute, and the Sohaer of Haelun'or be given an apology for the attack on him by an Elvenessi national citizen. Feanor Sylvaeri is quoted as saying during the exchange, "If he is to go, that it might be done willingly to face you - be it a duel or otherwise. Clearly not in my own lands, and nor would I have my own sent into the hands of the Orcs. At the end of the day, this is a druid killing another druid. If you wish to damn your own soul with the killing of a druid, that is your decision. Yet so long as I live, I will never intend to repeat that wretched mistake of kinslaying either." The diplomatic efforts failed to reach any conclusive terms and the Amaethea War ensued in full.

14 S.A.

  • Operation Elvenessi Freedom commenced. The Sohaer of Haelun'or Othelu Orrar is quoted as saying, "Elvenessi freedom begins here, on the roads and paths winding through their gnarled woods." The Free Company and Haelun'or infiltrated the city of Amaethon and cut off the bell. The High Prince and Princess went into hiding and the Head Steward Evar'lae Amayriil was beheaded by Glanil an Iarwaïn. Multiple Elvenessi Sentinels are disarmed and two civilians who resisted the raiders were executed. Others paid tolls or turned over their equipment. Kiljaerys an Iarwaïn and the troops exit upon stolen Amaeathean canoes after finding no more resistence in the city.

Raids

The raids were major operations conducted at the behest of the Triumvirs Kairn Calithil, Rex Zhot, and Weeping Blade Commander Kiljaerys an Iarwaïn and his Officer Glanil an Iarwaïn who were sent on behest of Sohaer Othelu Orrar. These were the official military leaders who managed all guild operations and seldom was any act committed without being sanctioned by Kairn, Zhot, Glanil or Kiljaerys. The goal of these war-time operations was to draw out Elvenessi military personnel to strip them of gear and distract them from maintaining the peace within their own city. As road tolls continued to be exacted by the Anti-Elvenesse Alliance, the roads were seldom used and the city was cut off effectively from the rest of the continent. The Lord Marshal of Elvenesse responded to the raids by leading patrols onto the roads and splitting up into different parties on multiple different occasions. In response, Alliance minutemen picked off stragglers and left their corpses as a warning to the Elvenessi patrols about what happens when you wander too deep into the forests.

  • YR 13, Operation Scourge: The Weeping Blades and Kairn Calithil scoured the roads for members of the Clan Taliame'onn and kill one of its members to send a message. Patrols show up to attempt and route the bandits, but the patrols are successfully evaded. The Weeping Blades and Kairn stab a man named Elros to death in the woods, and exact tolls upon many passersby's. Two patrols run their course across the roads that significantly outnumber the three men but are unable to find them due to their familiarity with the terrain and employment of guerilla tactics.
  • YR 14, Operation Elvenessi Freedom: The Sillumir and Free Company of Camlannen employ tolls indiscriminately and eventually enter the city of Amaethea through a flaw in their defenses. The party engages and the troops scatter throughout the city. The Steward-Councilor Evar'lae is decapitated on the way to his own house and the High Prince Feanor and his wife see a nearby Weeping Blade spy and leave prior to the raid within the city upon seeing the pallid interlopers scouring the terrain. Aulathar Vanethelan and Finnadh, two agents of the Alliance, successfully employ tolls on local civilians and take gear from two military personnel. To alert the city to their presence, Aulathar and Finnadh dashed a young guardsman's brains out against the bell to send a message and ring the bell so that reinforcements may come. The reinforcements never arrive and the troops under the guidance of the Commander of the Sillumir by the name of Kiljaerys executed two other civilians before departing. The Commander Kiljaerys is quoted saying, "It is a shame more of them did not show up to defend their wretched kith and kin. Though a success, it is a success so meager it begs the question of when they will send more men to defend their murderous inhabitants."
