Every dweller upon the isles of Axios can count the passing of days and nights by the Moon and the Sun, though the recording of time is more difficult. Although in the recent days time is carefully recorded across the realm, it was not always this way. The recording of time began in Aegis, the Elves being the first to measure it, thus why a month in the year is attributed to Malin. The first year does not mark the beginning of the realm of Aegis, but simply when time began to be recorded. Some mechanics depend on the calendar, described below.

Measurements of Time

The most common references of time in the realm are the day (passing), month (seed), year (Elven Week) and Malin's Year.

Day

A day, or passing, refers to one day/night cycle, from one sunrise to the next. This equates to one hour in real time. Server mechanics modify the Minecraft day to last this long.

Month

A month, or seed, fortday, or Elven day, is the length of twenty-four passings. This equals one day in real time.

There are seven seeds, with the year beginning on Snow’s Maiden. The seed switches at noon, GMT, with the listed seed following for the rest of that day.

  • Snow's Maiden (Wednesday)
  • Malin's Welcome (Thursday)
  • The First Seed (Friday)
  • The Grand Harvest (Saturday)
  • Sun's Smile (Sunday)
  • The Amber Cold (Monday)
  • The Deep Cold (Tuesday)

Year

A year, or Elven week, is comprised of seven seeds, or one hundred and sixty eight passings. This is one week in real time.

Malin’s Year

Malin's Year is one real life calendar year, or about fifty two years in-game. It can also be referred to as an Elven Year.

Seasons

The year is subdivided into four seasons, each with different amounts of months in them. The seasons can affect weather, temperature and crop growth. The seasons represent notable shifts in weather, though seem to vary back and forth, odd years often cooler than even.

Spring

Spring marks the melting of snow and the beginning of new life. It contains the seed of Malin’s Welcome.

Summer

Summer is the longest season, a time of warmth and sunshine, with less precipitation than the others. It spans from The First Seed to Sun’s Smile. Harvests are more bountiful in the middle of this season, during the seed of The Grand Harvest. Days are long and nights are short.

Autumn

Autumn is a time of cooling and decay, as the leaves turn colour and the temperature begins to drop. It is a short season, as Winter readily approaches, thus having Autumn only consist of The Amber Cold.

Winter

Winter is a grim season. Except for very warm areas of the land, snow will regularly fall. Crops will not be able to grow anywhere, though can still be harvested. Winter begins with an immense cooling during The Deep Cold, the coldest seed. This followed by a time of blizzards, Snow’s Maiden, the snowy period of the year. Days are short and nights are long. However all is not too poor, as Winter marks a new year on the First of Snow’s Maiden, a time of celebration for some.

Important Years in Modern History

For a full list of dates and their corresponding date in real time, see: Real Date to IG Year Calendar

  • Out of character: Lotc 1.0 (Aegis) commenced in the year 1300. Though the realm existed far before this, this is was the year when the server was opened.
  • Aegis fell in 1326, the mortals escaping through a portal to the Verge before sailing for new lands.
  • Asulon was discovered in 1351 at which time some chose to reset the counting of years from 1 at the year 1351, though this was later removed.
  • Asulon was left behind in 1414 and the mortals sailed through Kalos and Elysium.
  • Anthos became the new home in 1420.
  • Anthos was abandoned in 1454 for The Fringe that was accessible through the Door of Eternity, and then on to Thales in 1463.
  • Thales was departed from, and Athera was settled in 1470.
  • Athera was abandoned and Vailor was reached in the year 1513.
  • Vailor was abandoned and Axios was settled in 1571.
  • In the year 1643, Axios was abandoned and Atlas was settled.
  • Arcas was settled in 1705, following the escape of Atlas.

Random Tidbits

  • Prior to moving to Anthos, the year had eight seasons, with The Second Seed following the first. Due to changes of climate in the new land, this month was removed from the calendar.
  • The term ‘Fortday’ was used by the seventh king of the Dwarves after Urguan as a measurement of his kin’s sleeping cycles, which equates to one seed.
  • The Orcs of Krugmar were the first to observe and take advantage of the bi-annual differences in temperatures between years. They used this information to achieve very plentiful harvests.
  • When the first High Prince was elected to rule over the Elves, the length of their reign was determined by the number of years that Malin resided in Laurelin, which was fifty-two, becoming known as Malin's Year.
