Sutican History

Pre-Sutica

The first citizens of Sutica came from Salvus during the Salvian revolutions that ended the days of the Salvian republic in 1520. Before the citizens of Sutica founded their village they sought refuge in the Dwarven capital where they stayed for a year's worth of time, building alliances and ties which they would carry to their new home. They arrived in the Caliphate in 1521 and bought a fertile patch of ground adjacent to an oasis for the modest sum of 10,000 minas, following which the village of Sutica was formed.

The First Trade Monarch

The Village of Sutica was ruled by the First Trade Prince of Sutica who was elected into power by the name of Silv’ar Vanguard. Silv’ar Vanguard founded several institutions in Sutica such as the Architecture Guild and the Sutican Defense Force, the de facto guard force of the village. Silv’ar Vanguard was only Trade Prince for two years after which he stepped down and his only known living relative David Enrique became the next Trade Prince

The Second Trade Monarch

David Enrique reigned as Trade Prince for eight years, such years notorious for their inactivity; little action or progress spurred within or around the village, causing economic and cultural stagnation. The crisis arisen from the stagnant village spurred the remaining villagers to move, migrating to the newfound city of Sutica, where the population rose and a Golden Age of architecture dawned upon the people, from which they originated the Sutican style of building, the first emergence of the architectural style in history.

The Third Trade Monarch

Trade Princess Lilyana was crowned when her late husband fled the town following the crazed riotings of displeased locals in 1531. She quickly commissioned the construction of a great city for the Suticans. The massive city of Sutica was constructed efficiently for the purpose of bringing in vast sums of wealth and people from across the realm, allowing the city to experience a flood of gold and knowledge from the various peoples of Vailor. Shortly into the Third Princess's reign the Caliphate, without presenting any warning to the Suticans fell under the Mercenary Company of Hallowvale and became a state in Vandoria. No longer was Sutica a vassal of the Caliphate but now a state of Vandoria. This massive increase in population and wealth earned the attention and favor of their Overlord. Sutica at this point was a state in the realm of Vandoria. Vandoria was in general quite welcoming and kind to Sutica for a long time. Following the formation of Vandergaun and the war period where Sutica faced mounting hatred from both sides of the war, pacifistic and isolationist ideals began sweeping across the people of Sutica, forcing them in the end to back out of all relations with both the Caliphate and Vanderguan.

The Fourth Trade Monarch

Alem'shun Vanguard, son of First Trade Prince Silv'ar Vanguard, rose to the throne at the request of Lilyana Faroe in 1650, marking the end of her long service to the people of Sutica. Although his reign may have been over a then stagnant and empty city, power was soon peacefully transferred to Cyrene Riel. He turned to acting as an advisor of the government, merely lingering to provide guidance and advice from time to time.

The Fifth Trade Monarch

Shortly after Cyrene returned and took over for Alem'shun in 1677, many changes were quickly made to the government and city as a whole. She declared the Federation no longer a clerical city, but a truly neutral nation, and invited many groups and diverse people into the city. Not too long after this happened, the city began to flourish with life once more, to become the prosperous Federation it is known as today. Despite many aggressions and attacks from other nations and factions, Cyrene worked to ensure Sutica's old traditions are upheld, and that neutrality is maintained for the safety of the city.

The Sixth Trade Monarch

Following Cyrene's abdication, Lily Helenson-Anarion was appointed the new head of state of the Federation of Sutica. Her focuses, following her appointment, have been the restructuring of the nation's government, namely the reworking of the city guard. This new rework is said to mimic a format like that of previous guard forces. Politically speaking she focuses on neutrality over an assertive view on the world around, remaining willing to sustain dialogues with previously hated or shunned nations, bearing in mind that neutrality does not mean inaction. Domestically, Lily upholds a tolerance for all races, supporting unity and judgement based on action rather than blood, creed or faith.

The Seventh Trade Monarch

Following Lily's abdication, in 1728, Mika Goldhand was crowned by the former Trade Princess into the position of Trade Prince within the Sutican Meeting Hall. The Trade Prince used prior business experience to drastically raise Sutica's coffers through expansion of markets. This short period was dominated by a rise in dwarven influence due to the Trade Princes' own connections to the Goldhand Clan. Mika's government focused on establishing relations with Haelun'or and the Under-Realm of Urguan. This influence ran directly opposed to Mika's Great-Grandfather Terr'hi Uialben. Terr'hi during Mika's reign acted as a rogue agent of the Free State of Sutica, pushing claims of one of his children to the leadership of Vira'ker and later leadership of the Llyrian Concord. Terr'hi would challenge the Trade Prince to a duel in 1735 with his daughter as champion for the position of Trade Monarch, and with Mika's loss, he abdicated and handed the title to his Great-Grandfather.

The Eighth Trade Monarch

Terr'hi Uialben took the throne immediately following the duel for the nation in 1735. His policies have encouraged radical "Uialbenization" of the Free State of Sutica. This has involved taking large portions of the populace and having them take his last name Uialben as well as bringing them into his family's culture. Terr'hi's rule came under criticism following the establishment of the Ministry of Drugs in which the Duchy of Morsgrad responded by banishing all Sutican citizens.

Since the Nation was Founded

Vailor

Suticans sailed off from Vandoria due to the political tensions and the general instability of the nation. This led them to the isles where the founded yet another new city of Sutica in the year 1544. Construction was slow but steady and soon after completion of the city it began to once again fill with citizens. In the year 1558 the Mounsidian people sought land and protection under the Isles and were granted land and vassalage. In the year 1561 Celein, due to mounting political pressure and a possible war sought the protection of Sutica and became a vassal under them.

Axios

Soon after the destruction of Vailor, the people of Sutica found themselves on the island of Ceru within the realm of Axios, where they began to reconstruct their nation. They built the city of Sutica. Within a few years, they had surmounted their wealth and size, expanding their borders across the vast majority of Ceru. With the dissolution of the War Uzg by the Holy Orenian Empire, the orcs were displaced from home and many found new solace within the Federation.

Princess Lilyana and her new husband, Karyssmov Faroe, Led the fair citizens of the Federation into the new lands, erecting a vast city where Druids, Halflings, Clerics and Acsended all found solace. However, soon many of these orders left due to falling outs and disagreements with the leaders. A Clerical order, known as the Paragons, was founded shortly after and with it a new surge of Taharian teachings spread throughout the federation. Eventually, the city fell to the plaguing of an evil clique of Druids. Following the dealing with these transgressors, it was revealed to the leaders of Sutica than the isle of Ceru had become corrupted. So, they set out on a quest to free the Spirit of Ceru from this dark influence, returning it to its natural state of being, after which the residents of the isle set off to Atlas out of respect for the restored Spirit.

Atlas

Upon their arrival in Atlas, Princess Lilyanna chose to abandon their previously chosen land, leading the Suticans to lands further into the wilderness. This lead to the clashing of factions within the Nation, ushering in a period of stagnation. This period ended following the collapse of the Clerical Order, ending off formally with the disconnection of former-Lord Protectorate, Karyssmov. This led to the immediate renouncement of the crown by Lilyana and the ascention of Alem'shun Vanguard.

With their newfound leader in place, the Suticans went through a restructuring of their government, namely with the appointment of numerous new Ministers and Advisers. Once all was settled and in a state of calmness, the crown was peacefully handed over to Cyrene who followed through with further government reforms. The city saw a significant spike in its popularity during this time, returning to a state of economic growth and cultural diversity that it had previously known. Eventually, however, Cyrene's reforms fell to laziness and the government became inert. It was shortly after this point that Cyrene abdicated and appointed Lily to the post of Trade Monarch, who resumed the task of finishing the reforms started by Alem'shun. Presently, under Lily's rule, the nation remains prosperous and on an upward climb, aided by the reformation of the City Guard.

Current Geography

The Federation of Sutica is a large city-state built along the coastline of the lands of Atlas. Its position geographically speaking is far from any other nation, making the journey there a very lengthy and treacherous one. The lands immediately outside of the city gates are a mix of heavy forest and rolling plains, with sparse farmland and small structures scattered about.

Nobility

Ministers bask in the nobility of the trading nation beside the standing Trade Prince or Princess of Sutica, awarded authority over a relevant ministry within the nation. As such, they are often noted for excellent work within their position, and are offered kindnesses from well informed citizens of the nation.

The Royal Family

Disregard the table below (for now).

Economy

Sutica is a prosperous nation built upon the firm foundations of trade relations from the many ports dotting their islands. The constant stream of minas into their reserves has allowed many to take up intellectual studies instead of pursuing constant employment, a testament to the financial security vested within the trade nation.

Culture

While Suticans are generally considered very rich they are also very charitable. Houses are free and there are minimal taxes in the city. Suticans enjoy a calm and peaceful life, stemming from their pacifistic stance taken in previous conflicts. They are very accepting people and are generally considered one of the most liberal of nations due to their lackadaisical stance regarding people's personal lives, leading to Sutican's calling the Sutican way the, "do whatever you'd like" way.

Society

Society within the nation is astonishingly liberal in contrast to other nations across the realms. Their inclusion of any peaceful descendant within their society, regardless of race, has contributed to the rise of a wise, diverse cosmopolitan nation. The culling of ignorance due to this has led to the creation of a relaxed, pacifistic trading culture within the nation.

Art

Suticans are renowned not for their art upon canvas, but their art of construction, the architecture of marble and terracotta. Suticans are so skilled in the feat, that in the matter of years their universally famous Architecture Guild bolstered its own unique style of architecture, unique to any before in the realm.

Literature

Due to the brevity the nation has stood, it has been able to produce only one of literary merit, titled: Lustful Lilyana. Almost all of their previously created works were lost during the great migration to Atlas from Axios.

Music

Due to the brevity the nation has stood, it has as of yet been able to produce any works of musical merit, despite its large community of wise and intelligent thinkers.

Religion

Due to the diversity of the inhabitants of Sutica, and the diversity of their belief systems, Sutica has no structured or majority religion. This has allowed for the further degradation of ignorance and the spreading of a culture of acceptance, so long as the religions practiced bring no harm to Sutica's people or her guests.

War

Sutica aims, generally, to avoid war and conflict by any means necessary, as war would not only interfere with their open borders and peaceful exchanges with all races, but would raise trouble within their frequent trading endeavors. As a result, to this date, Sutica has been directly involved in very few wars, preferring to give economic aid to their allies and to embargo their enemies. Presently, in Atlas, the nation upholds a policy of total non-participation in war save for peace talks and peacekeeping operations.
