Telekinesis

Telekinesis is the Arcane magic form of moving objects with the mind. This magic type utilized the mind to move objects, either by giving them a push or even causing them to levitate. Like Evocation Telekinesis is based around influencing the mana around or within an object, causing the mage to control the objects gravitational shift. However the mana, just like it would do in evocation, fades quickly after the magic is dismissed, leaving the object free of its artificial force of gravitation and causing it to return to it’s original path of gravity.

History

Like it’s brother, Transfiguration, Telekinesis was discovered decades ago when researchers and mages sought to find a way to influence the world in such a way that man can only dream of. Over years of experimentation scholars found a way to influence gravity by manipulating the mana stream around and within an object, as such creating the first version of Telekinesis. Through the following decades Telekinesis was further researched and developed allowing more people to learn this form of magic and to understand the basics behind it.

Learning Transfiguration

Telekinesis, unlike Transfiguration or Evocation, is known to be a rather easy form to learn, only requiring some books or tomes and the required abilities to read such scriptures. As such Telekinesis can be self taught and isn’t necessary requiring a teacher, yet, many students are still searching for some assistance from time to time.

Abilities

The arts of Telekinesis don’t have any subtypes, focusing completely on the pure manipulation of gravity. However, due to such Telekinsis is limited to solid, non living objects as well as a certain weight and the amount of affected objects. A Telekinetic must focus on a single object in order to grab it. This makes the manipulation of moving objects much harder as it is more difficult for the mage to focus on the single point. However, this does not make it impossible. Mages of greater degree of mastery over Telekinesis are able to manipulate objects in motion to a greater degree. Where an amateur Telekinetic may be unable to redirect even a rock thrown in his direction a master may be able to control this rock (assuming it is not traveling at incredible speeds and is not very larger), and even redirect fast moving objects or particularly large moving objects. When it comes to the difficulty of manipulating an object there are a few factors which influence the difficulty, such as the object's speed of motion, the size and weight of the object and the number of affected objects.

Redlines of Telekinesis

Telekinesis has several redlines of what a mage can do and what a mage can’t do. As such those redlines should be followed at any time and breaking them can result in a removal of your magic permissions.

  • Mages can’t manipulate living things, liquids or gases.
  • A Telekinetic can affect potted plants and branches on a smaller level.
  • Telekinesis can’t stop arrows in the air and send them back at the person who fired it.
  • Telekinetics can, however, redirect arrows in many directions but never fully stop them.

Trivia

  • Contrary to popular belief, telekinesis is actually not exerting force on an object using the void! It's actually altering the gravitational force around the object to push or pull it in various directions.
  • Powerful ghosts and apparitions are able to levitate objects, but it isn't the same magic as telekinesis.
