Slimes are gelatinous, cool colored, multi sized, cuboid, monsters that for the first few centuries of Aegis remained only as creatures found deep below the crust of Aegis. They were thought to have been descended from the same specious of the flying cuboid creature known as the Ghast. In Asulon Slimes inhabited the lands and some considered them as native monsters that grew from the same conditions found in Aegis. They have only rarely been recorded in Anthos.

They have a fungus like nature to them and seem to feed off of gases found deep below the curt of Aegis which is where they originally resided until the Undead war. When feeding off these gases, such as redstone fumes, they use this to build and grow their cartilage of slime they use as a coating around their inner nuclei. Their entire form seems to be made up of a number of bacteria that use these gases to reproduce which would also explain how they split when they reproduce. When provoked by an outer source organs found near the lower regions of the body will react and spring towards the source of disturbance to neutralize the disturbance via organs that are used to suck the liquids out of the body.

Anatomy

Due to the slimes peculiar reproduction system they, like many other creatures, have an age system to where they grow over time. It is not known if this is a true observation but slimes are often seen in a number of sizes. Scientists have classified them into 3 categories of growth and size and a 4th for rare occasions.

Small

60 centimeters in size compared to a meter and do no harm to the viewer due to its size its often “sucking” nature is dulled enough this is thought to be the first form of the slime's life cycle and its weakest. Upon a blade or other force destroying the fibers and bacteria holding this particular form of the slime are destroyed it will then proceed to split into one final ball or blob like form of the remaining bacteria. In this state the bacteria becomes harmless and can be used for a number of alchemical purposes. These smallest sized Slimes may be adopted by pets as they post no harm.

Medium

1 meter and 20 centimeters in size, at this rate they can become dangerous, although still weak and gelatinous and easily cut-able with a well sharpened blade in large numbers they can remain deadly.

Large

2 meters and 40 centimeters in size. This is the most common and dangerous size of the common household slime. Several hits to the body must be taken in order to split this creature.

Giant

Size is not known, very few have lived through the sightings of one of these giants and are said to be the most deadly, this is also what the Undead and other evil sorcerers tend to summon in the middle of battles to quickly dispose of a spread out enemy.

Body Structure

Outer Cartilage

This thick layer of slime like material is the slime’s natural defense agents outer disturbances agents the colony of bacteria that make up the slimes body. Since the slime is made up of a number of different bacteria the slime cartilage itself is its own type of bacteria. Using the gases that it feeds on, such as redstone gases, the bacteria on the outer portion of the colony multiply creating the thick outer layer of the slime’s body. This makes it difficult for larger creatures to eat smaller slimes also making it possible for slimes to attach on to disturbances and quickly dispose of the body via liquid sucking.

Inner Cartilage

The inner layer of slime around the main nuclei in a slime has no defensive purposes but is instead used for a vessel to hold the slimes inner organs are colonies of bacteria that are vital for its life. This layer is made up of the same bacteria found in the outer cartilage but they serve a lesser purpose of the main “skin” of the slime if the protective coatings were to wash away for a reason then this layer would take its place and another inner cartilage layer would form under the new outer cartilage.

Eye Port

This is one of the more useless parts of the slimes body but they still hold a form of purpose. At one point it is thought that the slime had useable eyes in which they could see much like their cousin the Ghast does. Due to their residents in the deeper parts of the earth they were forced into darkness and so over a great deal of time lost their eye sight. The eyes still hold a form of purpose though, they can see an extremely blurry image often used to depict weather an area is light or dark so they can decide where they wish to live since they seem to despise the darkness, unlike their flaming cousins.

Central Nuclei

This is in essence the heart of the slime and this group of bacteria controls all other bacteria within the slime. It often appears light green in color or blue and is found in the very center of the slime. As long as this remains intact the bacteria can continue to reproduce and grow. Reproduction The slime reproduces like no other organism in Anthos. Since they are made up of a colony of bacteria if the colony is split up as long as a bit of bacteria from every major part of the slime remains intact a new slime can form from the old one. In an essence when one attacks and/or slices a slime they are doing the slime a favor by helping the reproduction cycle along.

Feeding

The slime feeds off of gases found deep below the earth’s crust. Such as extremely active redstone dust particles when it releases its red gases into the air. On this alone they thrive under the crust and reproduce freely undisturbed by any outer disturbances. Using the outer cartilage to consume or absorb the gases they can then reproduce helping the slime create a thicker and larger outer cartilage.

When killed the gooey corpses of slimes are often found to contain bones or flesh. As these are not a part of the slime anatomy many think that they consume victims by absorbing them. Since this was not documented in Aegis it is also suspected that the slimes native to Asulon may be more aggressive with different feeding habits.

Environment

Slimes prefer the cool deeper regions of Anthos, they occasionally come to the surface to reproduce. This can often cause hazardous outbreaks of slimes and a great increase in slime ball production. During the Undead wars Slimes were found as a common sight amongst fellow Aegisians.

Flame Slimes

Originally found in the Nether and common in The Verge these fiery counter parts to the common household Slime are considered far more deadly. They have an orange red hue appearing more cream like then actual slime. They leave in their wake a trail of flames which seems to be their natural way of disposing of unwanted gases from the gases they feed on from the fires of the Nether. These particular slimes seem to have an extra organ or colony of bacteria in their bodies to handle intense heat and even thrive in it.
