Prelude

After the loss at the Siege of Thoringrad the dwarven Legion fell back and set up a defensive frontier of trenches stretching no more than a mile. On the Orenian side the conquered fort was rebuilt and a line of trenches dug outside as well. Thus began a lengthy period of back and forth skirmishes between the two armies, lasting day and night. These skirmishes went as far as capturing the fallen Thoringrad to the dwarves retreating into Lakefort and Indagolaf, which eventually brought about the siege.

Battle

After about a stone week of nonstop fighting the weary dwarves were holding at Indagolaf when the Orenian army came to besiege the fort. At first the Orenians tried to push into the well-dug in fortress but we're flanked by archer ports in the sides and separated by gates and magma traps. Eventually the Orenians used a large boulder to break down the outer gate, forcing the dwarves into the back of the fort. Further attempts were unsuccessful, once the Orenians passed the destroyed gates they faced a single bridge to the other side and both walls of the room filled with archer slits. The Orenians took heavy casualties each incursion below, eventually backing off for a while. Then they tried to smoke out the fort, which failed because of hidden rune-vents. After that the Orenians tried to flood the by digging a trench from the nearby lake into the fort. The trench drained much of the lake but because of the massive out below the bridge within the fort all the water simply poored far below the dwarves. The Orenian army, frustrated tried one more assault across the bridge that was repulsed by the defending dwarves. Weary of the casualties the army began to back off to Thoringrad when the defenders charged out of the main gate and routed the Orenian army.

Impact

The Battle of Indagolaf halted the Orenian invasion completely and put the dwarves on the offensive, essentially ending the Ithrun War. Subsequent skirmishes were alarmingly successful and the Orenian garrison began to lose morale. Additionally the battle showed that the dwarves cannot be broken, not without great effort and it will be heavy loss to do so. With the orcs, they had enough of the war and challenged the dwarves to an honor battle to decide on continuing Orcish involvement in The Orcish Gate Honor Battle.
