The Rustlers are a group of bandits for hire founded in 1822 by siblings Elsil’Ceru and Elsiimah’Ceru. Though they are primarily known for pillaging the roads, they are also known to fight alongside certain nations and groups in exchange for coin.

History

Founding

The Rustlers were founded in 1822 by siblings Elsil’Ceru and Elsiimah’Ceru. Though former Goats of Sedan and veterans of the failed Sedan Rebellion, the two siblings decided to desert the Goats and form their own company following the overbearing restrictions placed upon them. Though the Rustlers started small, their numbers expanded dramatically following a large recruitment drive which took place over their first year of existence.

Early Years

Settlement: A few months after their founding, the Rustlers were offered secret refuge within The Domain of Vortice in a fort just outside the capital of Talon’s Port. As years went by, the Rustlers began to grow displeased with their agreement with Vortice, as they felt the terms of settlement were unfair and did not benefit them.

Activity: Throughout the early days of the Rustlers, it was rare--though not unheard of--to find the company participating in any proper raids or large scale battles. Instead, the Rustlers preferred to take their operations to the roads and rob unsuspecting passerbys.

The Deserters' Skirmishes

A series of battles between the Goats of Sedan and the Rustlers came to be known as The Deserters’ Skirmishes, named after Elsil and Elsiimah’s desertion of the Goats.

Major Events

  • The attempted murder of Alwin Viradiraar (year) - Stalemate
    • A devastating misunderstanding resulted in the Goats of Sedan believing that Rustler Alwin Viradiraar had been in the process of banditting Urguan roads, which led them to attempt to kill him. Alwin managed to escape their pursuit of him, and informed Elsil'Ceru of the events. Elsil'Ceru warned the Goats that any further hostilities against the Rustlers would result in hostilities returned. When Sedanian hostilities continued, Elsil'Ceru kept by her word and returned such hostilities.
  • The Skirmish of Rustler Fort (year) - Rustler Victory
    • The Skirmish of Rustler Fort took place when the Goats of Sedan showed up to Rustler Fort, claiming to be trying to negotiate a treaty. The Rustlers, feeling threatened by their rally, and perceiving them to be there to commit hostilities against them, emerged from the fort and slaughtered most of their rally.
  • The Orenian Betrayal (year)
    • After Inkursa, a member of the Rustlers, was caught by Orenian forces, the Imperials had decided to hand over their prisoner to the Goats of Sedan. Once such an act was discovered by the Rustlers, their distaste for the Holy Orenian Empire grew to the extremes.
  • The Honor Duel of Caelan de Joannes and Elsil'Ceru (year) - Goats Victory
    • During the Great Mercenary Conference, Elsil'Ceru was challenged to an honor duel by Caelan de Joannes. After losing the duel, the de Joannes took Elsil captive.
  • The Desert Skirmish (year) - Goats Victory
    • In attempts to fight for the return of their leader, the Rustlers lifted their blades and attempted to fight off the smaller rally of Goats and former Reiver, Vydrek Volaren. Due to a lack of communication and lack of participation by the unconscious and bound Elsil'Ceru, the Rustlers lost the skirmish, allowing for the Goats to take Elsil to their cells in Sedan.
  • Surrender (year)
    • Now captured and locked up in the Sedanian cells, Elsil had no choice but to surrender. In the cells of Sedan, she signed the Louisville treaty, which effectively agreed to end hostilities between the Rustlers and the Goats in exchange for 2,000 minas to be paid to the Goats by the Rustlers.
