The Principality of Sedan was established in the year fifteen of the second age by Louis Alexander de Joannes after a land dispute with the Holy Orenian Empire, where the Empire wished to evict the Sedan Estate for having their own military force and allegedly refusing to pay taxes on their property. Louis, and the other citizens of Sedan were displeased and overall outraged at this decision. They refused to allow the Imperials to take their manor, their home. This infuriated the Imperials, who had the military arrest a child of the de Joannes family in return for Sedans decision to oppose theirs. More than ever, the citizens of the Sedan Manor were outraged and set out immediately on a rescue mission. During the raid, while the Imperial State Army were in their fort, someone yelled "Glory to Prince Louis of Sedan!" This led to the rest of his men shouting the very same. Louis was quite pleased by what his men were shouting, and thus the Principality of Sedan was created, with Louis Alexander, de Joannes being marked as the first Prince of Sedan. This also marked the beginning of the Principalities struggle with the Empire to survive and gain their independence, which became known as the Sedan Rebellion. After the loss of the Rebellion, the survivors of the De Joannes family eventually reformed the Principality as a vassal under the Grand Kingdom of Urguan.

History

The Foundation

The Principality of Sedan was founded by Louis I, Prince of Sedan as a direct result of the Imperial State Army moving to evict himself and his family from their home, known then as the Sedan Manor. Events prior had led up to the outbreak of war, such as the arrest of Louis' youngest son, the refusal to disband their private levy, and many more. Regardless, the events of the Sedan Rebellion had a direct impact on the de Joannes family and the Sedanians whom followed them. It was now that the Sedanian culture was created, which placed a heavy emphasis on military might and strong leadership, as well as the strong belief in Noble Rights, one of the main reasons for the Rebellion. It was during this Rebellion that Four houses, particularly the House of Castille (whom had already been apart of Sedan as a servant family), the House of Hartcold, the House of Bishop, and the House von Halsfield, joined the Principality of Sedan. Each were given noble titles, and officially became vassals of Sedan. These four houses formed the backbone of the Principalities nobility, and in particular the House of Bishop and the House von Halsfield contributed the most men to the cause due to already having a large number of members to call upon. With the eventual realization that winning against the Holy Orenian Empire was impossible, Louis de Joannes issued the Spring Contingency[1], which ordered the burning of the Sedan Manor and the retreat from the Orenian heartlands. The de Joannes alongside the House of Bishop and House of Hartcold fled to Haense, the House of Castille fled to the City-State of Luciensburg, and the House von Halsfield collapsed and eventually went extinct a few years after the Rebellion.

Politics

Vassals

Vassals, also known as Peers of the Realm are crucial members of the Principality. A peer swears undying fealty to their liege, the Prince. In exchange for their contributions to the Crown, the peer holds a Noble title, which results in them and their family to receive special privileges. The contributions of vassals ensure that the Principality runs smoothly. There are currently four direct vassals underneath the Prince.
