Biography

Early life

Princess Anne Caroline was born on the 5th of Horen’s calling of the year 1789 of the First Age. Five years prior to her birth, her paternal grandmother Anne I and her paternal grandfather, Joseph II have ascended to the throne. Anne and the late Empress are said to have shared a close bond, from Anne Caroline’s birth to Anne I’s death. The princess shared a lot of her late grandmother’s features, starting from the typical Novellen nose to the unique shade of red hair.

In her early childhood, the young imperial was often seen following around multiple people she deemed important, one of them being the Empress herself, her father and multiple Imperial State Army soldiers. She reportedly was close to her older and younger sister, the Princesses Josephine, Princess Imperial and Helen Antonia of Crestfall.

The three Imperial Princesses, (circa 1796), by Judith Helvets of Crestfall. This painting was made by the Duchess-Consort of Crestfall after her youngest daughter, the Princess Helen Antonia of Crestfall was born. From left to right, you see Helen Antonia of Crestfall, Josephine, Princess Imperial and Anne Caroline of Crestfall.

Her education was overseen by multiple court tutors - though one has been recorded to say that the princess was a rather slow and stubborn student. According to multiple sources, she would much rather spend her free time painting and climbing rooftops. Nevertheless, through hard work and dedication, she later became a licensed medic at the age of sixteen summers. She reportedly enjoyed hunting within the woods behind the Imperial Capital of Providence, spending most early mornings on horseback.

Anne of Crestfall, (circa 1815), by an unknown artist. This painting is said to have been redone at least three times, because Anne Caroline was never satisfied with her appearance. It is quite notable to see how her crooked nose had been flattened out and how her sharp features had been softened to match the beauty standard of the time.

Upon reaching the age of eighteen, she was wed to Simon Casimir of House Pruvia.

Later Life

Upon her father's ascension to the Emperor of Oren, Princess Anne got more involved in court life. She was even selected as one of the five people that would bring the Emperor his pieces of regalia during his coronation. She was the person to offer Philip II the laurel.

A year and a half after the coronation, Anne was named the Duchess of Auvergne. She and her older sister Josephine moved into a large palace apartment together and enjoyed life as spinsters, following Anne Caroline's divorce. She served as Secretary of the Treasury throughout Philip II's and Anastasia I's reigns, retiring at the age of 80.

Marriage

Anne Caroline and Simon Casimir rarely spent time together, especially in the later years of their marriage. It is said that the Crestfall was rather stubborn and hard to get along with. Despite such, Anne and Simon had three children with the oldest being Philip Michael Pruvia. She was said to have been a rather absent mother, spending around ten years sailing rather than performing her motherly and princessly duties. Such changed, however, once Anne Caroline had lost an eye in a fight with bandits. She was aging and decided it was time to settle down and serve the Empire.

The only child she is said to have doted on would be her oldest daughter, Anne Adelheid. Regardless of such, she was a doting grandmother to all of her grandchildren, despite scolding her children for making her a grandmother before she turned fifty.

Later in life, Anne Caroline and Simon Casimir's loveless marriage ended in a dissolution, due to Simon's affiliation to the Azdrazi. A year after the divorce, Anne is said to have had a son by Major Sir Robert Galbraith, letting it be raised by the Baron's staff.

In 1852, she married Major Sir Robert Galbraith, the 1st Baron of Rivia. When he died in 1863, Anne Caroline who was now an aging woman decided to withdraw from the public eye, focussing only on her work as Treasurer.

Military Career

Anne Caroline enlisted into the Imperial State Army at the start of the Sedanite Rebellion and even made it up to the rank of Lieutenant for some time. However, after years of absence, she was demoted back to her previous rank.

"My comrades, my family, my life - all could be lost. But such is our life, a soldier's gamble. We either win - or we lose it all." - Anne of Crestfall, ca. 1818

Work as Duchess of Auvergne

As Secretary of the Imperial Treasury

Anne Caroline worked diligently in the Imperial Treasury, becoming the Undersecretary after only two years. In 1852 she succeeded Sir Henry Penton as Secretary of the Treasury. She served until the brother's war broke out, retiring when Frederick I took over the Kingdom of Oren.

As Imperial Grandee

When the 27th Imperial Diet was called, Anne Caroline became one of the six Imperial Grandees. This would make her the second ever woman in the House of Lords, following the late Elizabeth, Princess Imperial's death.
