Template:Lore The undead are an odd kind of being, having quite the interesting history, that started with the Archdaemon Iblees and is still important to this day in our realm.

The Undead of Iblees

Long ago, during Iblees’ second siege of the homeland of Aegis, just after the Thirty Year War, the undead turned to Iblees for power. The deprived and those hungry for might and power came to worship the Archdaemon of Ruin. The most loyal, resourceful and devout of his followers were given the power they desired. First Generation Necromancy was granted to the undead followers of Iblees at that time, and also later, during the realm of Athera.

These undead followers of Iblees served him and his nation known as ‘Drauchreich’ as it’s subjects. Most of them lived in the nation’s capital which was located in the Nether and was called ‘Drauchreim’. Iblees gave his subjects all sorts of tasks that were usually hard to accomplish. To make it easier for the undead to do their work, he gave them powerful forms. Back when they were created, undead were referred to as a ‘Noble Race’, alongside the Ascended. They were often characterized by skeletal bodies, an evil character and their black magic. Undead were quite frail in the physical sense and suffered for their weak bodies, however their dark magic gave them exceptional magical expertise.

The undead had two sects - later three in their second coming.

These sects were:

  • Destruction: Led by ‘Overlord’, focuses on militaristic efforts.
  • Corruption: Led by ‘High Prophet’, focuses on political affairs.
  • Chaos: Led by ‘Chancellor’, focuses on gathering materials.

Undead were organized in one or sometimes two of these sects, depending on the era their terms were in, and fullfilled tasks aligned with their sect. As one might suspect though, the leading figures of the sects were all under the will of Iblees himself.

While the crimes and attacks of the undead were often directed to the living, they were not restricted to them. Their cannibalistic and self-defeating nature allowed for constant arguing, infighting and betrayal amongst their own ranks. Their chaotic nature is what devoured them in the end, where after defeating the realm and people of Aegis and re-emerging in Athera, they were at last abandoned by their host. During a final attack on the druid’s grove where great upheaval erupted from the manifestation of Iblees and a creation of the Aspects, the Undead were reverted to their mortal forms and their memories were cleared of all their horrible actions of the past. It is still unknown why Iblees left his subjects and retreated to the Nether, but some say it’s due to the same flaw that all the undead possessed too: avarice.

Patrons of Iblees: The Undead

Originating in Aegis during Iblees' second siege upon the homeland of Aegis after the Thirty Year War, the Undead came as foul sorcerers. The deprived, power lusting, or craven came to worship the might and majesty posed by the Archdaemon of Ruin; only the most loyal, resourceful, and devout of his disciples were granted his boon. First Generation Necromancy was gifted unto the Undead in days of yore and, in later ages, in the land of Athera.

The Undead of Iblees served the Archdaemon and his vile nation of Drauchreich, housed primarily in its capital within the Nether called Drauchreim. To fulfill their dark lord's ravenous tasks they were given powerful forms. Referred to as a Noble Race alongside the Ascended in their creation, Undead were oftentimes characterized by their skeletal bodies, heinous and black magic, and distinct roles portrayed visually through trim colors. Undead were physically frail and suffered for their feeble forms, however their dark arts allowed them unparalleled magical prowess. Of the two sects -- later three in their second coming -- were the Destruction, Corruption, and eventually Chaos sects. Undead organized within one of the two or three branches, depending on the era their terms were in, and pursued tasks aligned with their denominations. The Destruction sect headed militaristic efforts, the Corruption sect headed political affairs, and the Chaos sect headed material fundraising. Respectively, the Overlord, High Prophet, and Chancellor led each of the listed sects and all came under the will and mastering voice of Iblees.

While potent and cruel, the crimes of the Undead were not restricted to the living who they so often offended; their cannibalistic, self-defeating nature allowed for constant betrayal and infighting amongst the Undead. Their chaotic nature left them to devour themselves in the end, where after winning over Aegis in conquest and re-emerging within Athera, they were eventually abandoned by their host; in a final assault upon the druid’s grove where cataclysm erupted from the manifestation of Iblees and a creation of the Aspects, the Undead were returned to their mortal forms and their memories were split of all their torturous actions. To this day it is unknown fully as to why Iblees forsook his devotees and retreated into the Nether, but speculation suggests the same flaw the Undead took after their lord: avarice.
