Olivier Laurène Lucien Ashford de Savoie (1821 - Unknown), regally known as Olivier II or as Olivier the Unready was the eldest son of Olivier Renault Ashford de Savoie, thus becoming the heir to the Principality of Savoy upon its formation by his Father. His upbringing was relatively quiet, and not much is known about his younger years. He was the 2nd Prince of Savoy following its formation, with the start of his reign carrying a heavy weight from the recent controversies in humanity and within the principality itself. With the consistent onslaught of immense pressure and suffering, he left royal duties for a pilgrimage, and later abdicated the throne - sparking the Savoyard Succession Crisis.

Early years

Olivier Laurène was born the fourth child of Olivier Renault, yet was the first son. As a result, he became destined to inherit whatever titles his Father would come to have, including the later Principality of Savoy. The City that Olivier Laurène was born in, the City-State of Luciensburg, had come under attack by a Ratiki Horde and as a result did not spend much time growing up in the City. Luciensburg was eventually destroyed by the Ratiki horde, and Olivier Laurène was forced to flee with his family to the Holy Orenian Empire. In 1832, the young de Savoie again moved, this time to the Commonwealth of Sutica after his Father had been promised land and title in exchange for helping put down the rebels in the Sutican Civil War. Upon the conclusion of the war and the later death of Queen Johanna, his Father would dissolve the Commonwealth of Sutica and form the Principality of Savoy.

Now being the Crown Prince of Savoy, Olivier Laurène underwent several private lessons to prepare him for the administrative duties that would come with ruling a nation. From then on, he was hardly seen by the public except for by his Father's side during royal courts and other important events that required his presence as the Heir Apparent. On 1838, Olivier married the Princess Royal of Sutica, Catherine, and sired their first child within four years. Despite this, the population grew to enjoy Olivier Laurène's presence, and many looked forward to his reign that was to come.

Reign

Following the abdication of Olivier Renault, Olivier Laurène was made the sovereign Prince of Savoy. His reign began with his first attempted coronation, which would come to spark the largest controversy of his reign to date. When the High Pontiff Everard VI went to crown the new Prince, Olivier Laurène rejected him and instead called upon his own established Anti-Pontiff known as Michael I. After Savoyard soldiers attempted to unsuccessfully apprehend Everard VI, Olivier Laurène was then coronated by his Anti-Pontiff Michael I, sparking the Michaelite Schism.

However, this Schism would not last long as Olivier Laurène received a tremendous amount of backlash from not only the other Canonist nations, but his own people. As a result, he later denounced his own Anti-Pontiff, and made a walk of atonement from San Luciano all the way to Karosgrad. There, he atoned for his sins before the High Pontiff Everard VI and was absolved and lifted of his Excommunication. After such an event, Savoy was struck with mass immigration from the Principality to other places around the world, specifically the Holy Orenian Empire. The reasoning for this was due to the sparking of the Urguani-Orenian War, in which many Savoyards had hoped that Savoy would join the war on Oren's side, yet did not.

Soon, Olivier Laurène would declare that the Principality of Savoy remained an independent nation from Oren and would not join the war against Urguan in his missive titled 'Simple Assertions' [1]. Because of his refusal to join the war on the Orenian side, the Savoyard mercenary company known as the Blackwald Company attempted to lauch a Coup d'etat against Olivier Laurène in favor of his younger brother Leufroy Renault. However, both the Kingdom of Haense and Grand Kingdom of Urguan came to Olivier Laurène's aid and put down the Coup before it could depose him.

Following the attempted coup, Olivier Laurène had the Blackwald Company banished from Savoy and later had Elijah Keen appointed as Lord Commander of the new Argent Legion. The Argent Legion would serve as the Principality's new Army, and was responsible for the protection of both himself and the Principality as a whole. Soon, after all the fast-paced events had occured, Olivier Laurène declared the 'Winter Regency' due to his wish to go on a pilgrimage, and established a regency council in his absence. [2]

Soon, Olivier Laurène would return to Savoy briefly to continue his personal rule. However, after having extended exposure to Canonist Monks during his pilgrimage, he became extremely discontent with ruling over Savoy. Olivier Laurène would eventually go on to abdicate completely after only a few months of returning to the throne, and left the country to another Regency Council. Following his abdication, he would go on to serve as a Monk for the rest of his life. Unbeknownst to him, his surprise abdication would be the very spark of the Savoyard Succession Crisis.

Later life

With his abdication as Prince of Savoy, Olivier would go on to become a Monk of the Canonist Church, and would spend the rest of his life in isolation. His devotion to the Church and his self-isolation led to him being unaware of the ongoing Savoyard Succession Crisis nor the reign of his two children who would succeed him. It is unsure of where the Prince-Emeritus resides now, with some rumoring him to have passed away after the reign of his eldest son. However, there is nothing to prove this theory, and Olivier is widely believed to still be alive residing with the Monks.
