Ofveraan (Nevarian: Öfverån, High Imperial: Opheron), is a keep of the Crown of Renatus-Marna in east-central Atlas just above the Crimson River and the capital and only settlement of the Barony of Nevaria. It was originally a keep of Norland known as Ashwood (Nevarian: Askaträ, High Imperial: Ascater) and the last haven of the population until it was taken over by Alston Caunter and others with Renatian assistance and became a vassal of the Crown. After Caspian Lombardi became Baron, he vassalized under Richard Arden and formed the Duchy of Nevaria. Shortly after, they allied themselves with the Courland in the Staunton Uprising against the Crown. After the Crown reclaimed their lands, Nevaria would be reduced to a barony with Ashwood as its capital. Gustaf would become its baron after he defected to Renatus and renamed it to Ofveraan

History

Ashwood was Constructed by Avon Ruric and Hod Svensson, on the order of Jory Ruric. It was used as a strategic point for Norland during the raid war against the Curonites. After the heartbreaking siege on Ruriksgrad, many Norlanders lost hope for their dying nation. Following the loss, many of the Norlanders became deserters, leaving their homes with whatever they had left, searching elsewhere for food and hospitality. The remaining 1,500 Norlanders stayed loyal to their king, Godden Ruric, where he then led them to Ashwood, the final stronghold held in rightful Norland territory. On the 11th of the Grand Harvest, 1662, the Norlanders began to settle the area around them, constructing small hovels on the local hillside and along the riverbank. Godden and his closest companions began to send birds to all corners of the realm, calling on any Norlanders and other allies that had survived the siege to make haste to the newly occupied keep. Godden slowly began to host a suitable force of trusted men, those who he knew he could lean on to protect the keep and the surrounding land. After discussing plans to improve the economic standing of the keep, Godden Ruric, Caspian Lombardi, and Alston Caunter were met by Antonius Horen, where he came to deliver his demands: Surrendering of the keep. The Norlanders invited him inside in order to more comfortably discuss the matter. After hours of conversing and civil dispute, they eventually came to the decision that Antonius Horen would fight for the Canonist god, and ten Norlanders would represent each Norlandic demigod as their champion. After the Norlanders finally settled down, Caspian Lombardi and a few other high up Norlanders took over the keep with Renatian assistance from Godden Ruric, forcing him alongside his family to leave in yet another search for a home. For long Caspian would remain soul ruler of Ashwood, having enforced and rebuilt the keep substacially, developing a crossing bewteen the borders of new day Courland and Ashwood. Soon after all the new renovations, Caspian held a meeting with Richard Arden, where Caspian would agree to vassal to Richard and House of Arden, with the agreement that the two would look to each other as friends and equals. This laid the foundations of the Duchy of Nevaria. Richard would later ally themselves with Courland in the Staunton Uprising against Renatus-Marna. However, Gustaf Torsten opposed entering the war and would defect to Renatus. Gustaf was the son of prominent Norlander and Nevarian Hans Torsten, who coined the name Nevaria. After the defeat of the Duchy, Gustaf was named Baron of Nevaria, which was reduced in size greatly, as well as the Lord of Ashwood. Just a few years later, he would rename it Ofveraan to remove the last link the heathenous Norlanders had to Atlas and hinder any revivalist heresies.
