The world contains many opportunities to find work, which is usually the first objective of newcomers. Many guilds offer a chance to work with others in a specific job, which can help one gain experience more quickly. Most nation capitals will have the best opportunities to find work. Not all jobs are equal, and some require more or fewer skills to excel in a certain job.

Architect - Great designers and builders of structures. It takes a good amount of schooling to become an architect, as buildings will collapse if not built to last. Architects are present in most major cities, designing and building new buildings. They must provide structural integrity for the buildings they design and also keep in mind the dominant architectural style of where they are building. Architecture can be a difficult field to enter, but the pay is good and those who do well are usually noticed.

Assassin - Killers for hire, they sneak about in the dark of night or bright of day to try and eliminate their targets. It is dangerous but exciting work that requires stealth and a good hand with weaponry. It can pay well, but there is also the good chance the intended victim will not be found, or the killing may be witnessed. Not a good job for newcomers to Vailor.

Baker - Creators of delicious baked goods. They make cakes, cookies and bread to supply the stomachs of people after a long day of fighting or working. The most popular bakers have a good reputation, which allows them to generate high profit and be integrated into the community. It can be a difficult like of work to get into, given the cost of capital in shop space, wheat, milk, sugar and eggs.

Bard - Entertainers, they offer songs and poetry for minas. The life of a bard means lots of traveling for little pay. Bards meet many people and must have some talent in their craft, or they risk being booed or pelted with rotten eggs. Newcomers may try and earn some minas as a bard, provided they are able to sufficiently entertain those who listen to them.

Bartender - Servers of ale and food in bars, taverns and pubs, they seem to have the easy life. But standing behind a counter all day can get boring if there is not a steady stream of customers. Still, when the bar is hopping and customers are thirsty, this can be a rewarding job indeed. It helps to have a sympathetic ear, which will generate higher tips. This can be a good job for those starting out.

Blacksmith - Forgers of metal, they are essential to war and everyday living. They forge ore into ingots and create swords, tools and armour. This requires a considerable amount of skill in blacksmithing to be profitable, which is learned through practice. The best blacksmiths often hire apprentices to teach their trade and help around the shops. Many Dwarves take up blacksmithing. The work can be dangerous and dirty, but their essentialness means that blacksmiths are a fixture in all communities in Vailor.

Cartographer - Creators of navigational techniques, cartographers are useful for understanding the land of Vailor. Some sell completed maps of specific areas, others will take payment to map an area for a client. This work allows for exploration of Vailor, which means long hours away from home, but also the chance to meet many people and see many sights.

Cooks - Eating raw meat is usually rather unpleasant and few other than sheep like to eat raw wheat. Cooks take the basic ingredients and turn them into delicious meals. Cooks are widespread throughout the lands and make stew, cook all sorts of meats and make many different kinds of meals. Can be good work for newcomers.

Courier - Deliverers all across the lands, these messengers will take minas, messages or items wherever they're summoned. Couriers dash from town to town, city to city with parcels and packages. Their work is essential to transport resources scarce in one area and common in another. A knowledge of geography is essential, as is the desire to meet people and traverse the lands. Could provide work to newcomers, although they could need help determining where all their orders are going.

Farmer - The growers of food, they are some of the most essential workers in all of Vailor. Without them, people would starve in the streets and society would collapse. Farmers range from those with small plots designed to mostly meet their own needs with some crop left for profit to large operations that are efficiently designed. There are many crops that can be grown. Wheat is perhaps the most common, as it is essential for bread, cake and ale. Sugar cane produces sugar, and also paper for those who work with books. Mushrooms may be grown underground with little maintenance. Melons and pumpkins are also grown in abundance. Many Humans, especially Halflings, and Elves work in the fields. This is one of the simplest jobs to get into, simply by going into the Wilds and starting a small farm. However, farms are easily destroyed by monsters or bandits, and it takes a long time and a large farm for it to be profitable.

Fisherman - Anglers of the waters, they cast their lines into oceans, seas and ponds to catch fish. This is also an easy job to get into, requiring nothing more than a body of water and a fishing pole. Many of those in Vailor have started earning money by casting a line or net and waiting. With great skill in fishing, some anglers find themselves lucky enough to be able to catch treasures from the depths. Many more types of fish have been discovered in Vailor than any other realm. However, fishing is not a very profitable activity, and subject to weather and seasonal changes.

Guard - Protectors of cities and people. They must be good with weapons and ready to defend at all costs. Most major cities hire guards for protection against bandit attacks and invasions. They typically earn wages and might have housing, weapons or food provided. Occasionally individuals will hire bodyguards if they fear assassination or attack. This line of work requires the willingness to fight and die and a dedication to the task. Some guards move up the ranks easily, earning better pay and conditions. This can be a good path for those looking for work.

Historian - Scholars of the past, they study what was happened to try and better understand the present and future. For those with a keen mind and thirst for knowledge this can be a very rewarding occupation. However, it is often not a very profitable line of work, making many historians seek other economic opportunities. Many pick up the quill only occasionally to try and understand history.

Hunters - Bringers of death to animals, they take axe, sword and arrow to the fauna of Anthos. Hunters typically travel into the Wilds and slay the animals that they come across, including cows, pigs, sheep and chickens. The meat of all but sheep can be stripped from the carcass and cooked or sold. Cows can also be skinned to provide leather for armour, chickens can be plucked for feathers and sheep may be sheared for their wool, which can be made into bedclothes and carpets. Hunting requires skill with a weapon and long times spent away from home, but the variety of items collected can be sold for good profits. Many hunters also work as monster slayers.

Innkeeper - The watchers of Inns, they shelter and feed the people of Vailor. There are many Inns across the lands large and small that need varying numbers of staff. Owners of Inns can make great profits by renting out rooms and buying and selling goods. For those with a desire to meet people and help those in the community this can be a good job. Starting an Inn can require a large amount of capital for building supplies and purchase of land. Most newcomers may work for Inn owners but rarely can start one themselves.

Librarian - Guardians of knowledge, they collect and protect books and other written works. Some wait for books to come to them, others travel the lands and either ask for or buy books to add to the collections. This job requires the desire to collect, archive and safely store written sources of knowledge. Newcomers to the lands might be able to get a job in a library.

Locksmith - Keepers of keys, locksmiths will keep precious items secure. Locksmiths can create locks for doors, chests and trapdoors so that no one can go sneaking about where one does not want visitors. Locksmithing is not a serious occupation for many, who practice it as a hobby or side job. Many will offer their trade for free upon purchase of a house or storage unit. Locksmiths are best off working another job as well.

Mercenary - Fighters for hire, the mercenary uses his skills with the sword, axe or bow in fights against others. Many of those in Vailor are willing to fight the battles and wars of others… for a small fee. Mercenaries must be skilled in combat and willing to fight whoever they are told.

Miner - Seekers of ores and gemstones, miners ply to the depths of the earth to bring treasures to the light of day. Many metals, ferrum and aurum ore, coal, redstone, lapis lazuli and Carbarum are all products of miners. They must be strong of body and good with a pickaxe to succeed, or the ground will be too hard for them to dig very deeply. Dwarves are widely regarded as the best miners in all of Vailor. Newcomers and unemployed may find there are minas to be made by selling cobblestone, iron ore and coal easily collected just below the dirt. However, the most prolific miners spend a long time at their trade.

Monster Slayer - Protectors of Vailor from the evil creatures that roam in the night. Monster slayers work everywhere, from inside cities to villages to the darkest parts of the wilds. It is well known that many monsters carry small amounts of minas on them that they scavenge from their victims or collect off the ground. Monster slayers use this to their advantage, killing them and stripping the corpse. Most monster corpses will also be found to contain other items such as armour, food and body parts. These can be used or sold for potentially great profits. The life of a monster slayer is extremely dangerous and requires time spent wandering, looking for victims. Nearly all in Vailor have participated in monster slaughter at some point, though few make it their one profession. Those who do must be strong of body and mind and good with sword, axe, or bow. It is recommended for newcomers ONLY when they have secured a good sword and rudimentary armour. Many monster slayers also work as hunters.

Priest - Men and women of religion. Many of the major cities and kingdoms employ priests to work in their churches or cathedrals. Those who choose this path must be ready to oversee weddings, funerals and ceremonies. It is quite a different occupation than most. Newcomers will not be able to obtain priesthood immediately, and will have to train in order to be given the title. A list of religions can be found here.

Sailor - Lovers of the waves and ocean, they guide the ships and boats of Vailor through fair weather and stormy seas. Sailors are in demand in nation navies, where they battle other navies, and on peaceful merchant ships that trade throughout the world. While most sailors do their job with honour, some turn to piracy, seeking greater opportunities and better pay. Newcomers could easily get a job as a sailor for a merchant or in a navy.

Scribe - Scribblers on scrolls, scribes use their quills to write and record. Much of the knowledge in Vailor is oral, and the easiest way to try and preserve it is to write it down. Scribes do this and more, writing records of important events and what is dictated to them. They may find employment in many places, including palaces, houses and guilds. Being able to read and write is absolutely essential for a scribe. This is a potential job for newcomers to Vailor, provided they can prove themselves adept enough.

Shepherd - Keepers of sheep, they tend to their flocks with care and devotion. Wool is in great demand in Vailor for bedclothes, carpets, paintings, and building. Some shepherds will breed their sheep to increase the size of their flock. The best shepherds will dye their sheep and try to breed sheep to produce rare colours. Keeping a large herd requires wheat for feed and protection from wolves.

Slaver - This is a job suited for only the most uncaring devious of the land. Slavers roam the land capturing and possibly killing all those they find so that they may be taken from their homes and sold into forced servitude. Slavers are not seen favorably by those they capture or those who oppose such a job on a moral basis. Definitely not recommended for those entering Vailor.

Tailor - Creators of clothing, tailors work hard to provide clients with good garb. Tailors may create anything from simple paupers clothing to the robes of a King. Many tailors own their own shops. This allows them to meet many people and provide a valuable service. Tailors must be able to sew proficiency and have a creative mind. Some newcomers may find work with a tailor.

Writer - Quillmasters of Vailor. Writers must be skilled with the written word. It is writers who record events, tell tales and make libraries great. Fiction and non-fiction alike are recorded by writers, for entertaining and informing all peoples. Anyone can become a writer, but it takes considerable skill to become known for it.

Hexer - Hexers are skilled in both fighting and stealth and are tasked with defending the world from rogue mages who are using magic to harm people, this mainly means Necromancers, Liches, and Frost Witches but it can also mean any other mages who have turned evil. They sometimes work with Monster Slayers when a monster is extremely powerful and needs a lot of skill to defeat.
