Biography

Early life

Nikolas Stanislaus Kovachev, born within the confines of House Carnatia in Providence upon the 4th of Owyn’s Flame, 1812, was the firstborn and only son from John Stanislaus Kovachev and Margaret Annabelle Helvets’ marriage. Nikolas took his father and paternal grandfather's middle name Stanislaus, a name that had signified the eldest male heir to the family for the last two generations. Despite the Kovachev family’s lack of peerage the young Nikolas still holds a weak royal heritage, with connections to Holy Orenian Emperor, Peter III (as his great-great-grandson via his maternal great-grandmother, Lorena of Oren) and Adrian I, King of Kaedrin(as his great-great-grandson via his maternal great-grandfather, Richard Victor, Count of Rochefort), along with many noble relatives via both his mother and father’s lineage.

Young Nikolas inherited many of his parent’s shared features, possessing light blonde hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. From a young age, much of his family noted that the boy was a near replica of his father, the only minute differences being his slightly lighter hair and darker eyes. Luckily Nikolas did not inherit his grandfather’s obesity, or at least the trait has not shown itself.

Born as the Sedanite Rebellion was coming to a close, Nikolas came into the world during an extremely troubling time for his family. His Paternal Uncle-in-law, Daniel Ashford de Falstaff had been executed for treason less than a year prior to his birth and only a few months following his birth his Maternal Uncle, the Baron of Helvets, Robert Helvets was also executed for treason. While the Kovachev family remained completely loyal to the Empire, the loss of close relatives still had a substantial emotional impact on the family.

At the mere age of 3 Nikolas lost his mother, Margaret Annabelle Helvets to a mysterious death shrouded in mystery. Due to the loss, much of Nikolas’s maternal care fell upon the shoulders of his two paternal aunts, Natalia and Emerentia Kovachev who quickly took him under their wing. As he would be the future heir to the Kovachev household a select group of tutors was chosen to educate him in areas where his aunts fell short. Close to the age of 5, Nikolas was taught a few craftsman skills in hopes of him taking on the family’s business-oriented mindset, the main skill that stuck with the boy was woodworking. Despite being an outgoing and cheerful child, Nikolas spent most of his early years within his family’s home, opting to play with his cousins and learn from his tutors instead of meeting other children.

In 1818, 3 years following the death of Nikolas’s mother, his father remarried, taking Lady Georgiana Lucille d'Arkent as his wife. Due to Nikolas’s hatred and fear of his obese step-mom he finally began to venture out of the confines of the Kovachev’s property, exploring the city and meeting new people. A few years after the marriage of John and Georgiana Nikolas soon had half-siblings, in 1820 his step-mother gave birth to a set of twins, George and Jorge Kovachev. The following year his half-sister, Emeliana Kovachev was born. Following the birth of Emeliana, Georgiana passed away, finally removing Nikolas’s step-mom from his life.

In the same year as Georgiana’s passing Nikolas lost someone truly important to him, his aunt, Emerentia Kovachev. The Kovachev woman had been terminally ill for many years and finally passed away on a late autumn night in the month of Harren’s Folley. Emerentia was one of the maternal figures within Nikolas’s life and her death sent him running back to his home, hiding from the outside world as he mourned for nearly 2 years.

At the age of 12, Nikolas decided he needed to grow up and become a member of society, leading him to enlist in the ISA as a recruit. His childhood riddled with death played a major role in his idea that he had to grow up. Despite what appeared to be a fast maturity Nikolas still had many child-like features including his kind, yet bratty personality.

Military Career

At the Mere age of 12, Nikolas enlisted in Imperial State Army, lying to the recruitment officer in order to join early.
