Tales of Necromancers

Necromancy is considered to be one of the more fabled and unknown magical arts of the realm, seeing as its users not only seek solitude with like-minded weavers, but also hoard its secrets. The very mention of a necromancer brings forth images of dreadful, perhaps even twisted beings not unlike the ibleesian Undead. Many are hated due to the fact their magic perverts life, or by mere association with undead abominations such as Ghouls or Liches. Coveting life-force, a trained necromancer is entitled to use the very essence of life itself for their own experimentation. Throughout its history it has been the center point of much conjecture, for many a speculating scholar has met their demise attempting to recreate its fell secrets.

Necromancy at its core is the manipulation of life-force and the raising and commanding the dead, heaving entire graveyards to their heathenous will. An enticing magic however foul as many often find themselves succumbing to the darkness by false notions of grandeur, or of power—to bring forth hordes of the dead, to bring back loved ones, to influence current events from the shadows, to empower ones self. It is strongly believed that multiple covens have a monopoly of the art, none may learn the damnable art without their approval although not for a lack of trying.

Tools of the Necromancer

All know too well the fury an adept necromancer can unleash, but there are things greater spawned by the art itself. What has been dubbed as Ghouls in recent times are vaguely sentient undead creatures that exist to feed on the living in an orgy of flesh and blood, only ending in the carcasses of often innocent men and women being consumed.

The Effects and Uses of Necromancy

Neecromancy has many uses and a plethora of different spells. From the typical life-drain to the creation of taint, a necromancer is a fearsome foe. All living things contain life-force, an energy that can be hungered for and consumed by those branded with the Darkhollow. Necromancers owe their power itself to their ability to extract life essences from living things. This allows for further use later on, whether it be in raising the dead of creating menacing creatures. Life-drain has an array of effects including the insatiable hunger for life, frailty brought on by its unnatural consumption, and an addiction to life-force itself.

Reanimation itself is done through the means of a tether—often taking the shape of a gaseous cloud. A tether essentially allows for the manipulation of life-force, and by filling a deceased husk with life-force they can control it as a puppet master would his puppets. The greater the amount of corpses, the less control a necromancer has over them. A master of necromancy can reanimate up to twelve corpses, should he reanimate all twelve they can perform base movements, whereas if a necromancer reanimates one it could rival the greatest of swordsmen.

Necromancers, or groups of them, are able to raise, or transcend, to become a variety of stronger, more durable undead creatures. These are:
