The grand Mountain Dwarves, originally hailing from the mountains to far north of Aegis, are known to be stalwart defenders of their cities. They came to be when a number of Urguan's sons chose to leave Kal'Urguan and instead live apart from their Cave Dwarven kin. Although unlike their underground living brethren, they stand strong on land and defend their cities and villages with strong arms and axes. Although better using an axe in combat and lumberjacking than their Dwarven brothers, Mountain Dwarves are not quite as good miners.

Mountain Dwarves generally have ginger, blonde, light brown or fiery red hair. Their skin is lighter than other Dwarves, sometimes tanned. Eye colours tend to be ordinary shades of blue, brown or green. They have strong, tall builds with muscled shoulders from living in harsh environments. Many also cover themselves in ritual war paints. Their toughness and discipline means many make good warriors.

Generally, Mountain Dwarves are adventurous and welcome outsiders of other races. They are usually cheerful with a good sense of humour. They take history and traditions seriously, usually expressed through song, tales and poetry. Often they are more willing to accept change than other Dwarves.

Like most Dwarves they follow a strict code of honour, which has developed over years of living amongst surface dwellers and through wars with Orcs. Rites of passage include killing and skinning Orcs, taking their tusks or claiming the ears of Elves. Many Mountain Dwarves claim trophies after battle, either material goods taken from enemies or parts of the dead enemies themselves.

Frequently found inside mountain settlements such as Kal’Anart and Kal’Domhain, Mountain Dwarves usually employ architecture with redwood and stone brick. Having lived in high altitudes means that Mountain Dwarves have better stamina and can march longer or run farther than their kin, especially Cavern Dwarves.

They make excellent hunters, although Mountain Dwarves cannot see well in the dark. They are also good storytellers and among the best Dwarven writers, as they grow up surrounded by myths and legends. They are also highly sought after as lumberjacks.
